The features video they made a few days ago was very disappointing. Basically, the only actually new feature is pre-contract talks, the rest is all just existing features being accessible from the inbox screen. I just hope the match engine is well improved from 16, I did not really enjoy that game. (full-backs getting ridiculously high grades, etc.) compared to 15. Also they are really putting a lot of emphasis on the new "social media" thing which I think is just going to be a cringy news section.

In the end, the game interface and 'features' are probaby as good as they can be atm, so it's not awful that they can't find a way to improve it. What's important to me is that the match engine works well.

They're going the same way as FIFA and its nonsense 'Journey' stuff. Prioritising 'narrative' features over actual game-enhancing changes. The main issue is that FM has always been about player-created universes.

Trying to force social media nonsense and the like into it is just going to come off terribly. The press conferences (trying to mimic 'mind games' from the Ferguson/Mourinho era) are stilted and end up massively tedious.

I don't think that they are releasing a demo this year. The Beta is doubling up as a "demo", as I understand it. The full game is released on 4th November.

I started up in November 2016, and took over bottom of league 2 side Coventry. 1 point from my first three games was a bit shit, but 17 from next 21 available has lifted us to 21st, and climbing to safety. Unfortunately this league is pretty realistic - every fucker beats every fucker so the sides in 20th and 19th are still 4 points ahead. Still, going well considering I've had no money to turn things around.

All of those are apparently subject to HARD BREXIT and soft Brexit. There's also an option for us not leaving the EU at all. So there's at least 7 different ways the game can go, if I'm right in thinking.

The only thing that does slightly irk me is that, this is a fixed event in the game which you have no control over. But there is no option to turn it off. The outcome is generated when you first make the database too, so in theory you could well sink seasons into this, to have the worst possible outcome happen. It can happen anywhere from 2 to 10 seasons in.

Anyone else agree that the beta appears stable enough to start a proper save or is it not worth it?

I'm doing my first long term United save. Sneaked the league first season after Arsenal were top for like 30 games, they went on a bad run of four defeats and two draws late season and I pipped them by two points. Won the Euro League too.

AI seem to adapt to tactics quicker too, struggling a bit in my first six games second season. Midfield three of Maia, Saul and Pogba.

Oh and the alleged broken full back AI isn't in my game either.

Seems 433 might be this year's broken tactic again. AI counter a lot so there's always the chance of them hitting you hard, but two centre backs, and even three can't seem to cope with three centre forwards. Icardi is now on 27 in 16 playing the centre role of the three, including 4 v Chelsea. I'm not dominating as much with it as I was on FM15 though, away from home its hit and miss, plus Real matched me go for go at home in the CL, with me scraping a 3-2 win.

And yes, playing this way its easy to make full backs broken again.

I've had to sell Pogba, Martial and De Gea due to Real being interested and them getting pissed when I rejected bids. £75m, £72m and £64m respectively.

I don't have the Brexit announcement in my messages anymore, but its an incredibly easy to miss basic message just saying we've left the EU, and an announcement of work permit changes, if any. So keep an eye out.

Griezmann and Bonucci will be gone in the summer. Griezmann has never hit the heights I expected (although he has been good), and Bonucci is pretty much the greatest defender I've ever had but his physicals are dropping fairly quick now he's 33. Got Laporte coming for 63mil as his replacement.

Moise Kean gone too at end of season, 25mil up front with 25mil in add ons to Chelsea. Beast of a player but woeful natural fitness. Neymar is ultimate goal, and I can afford him, but he wants 700k a week wages lol.

They're essentially inside forwards, they cut out wide when we counter attack, taking the central defenders with them and leaving Icardi with space if a midfielder hasn't tracked back. In real life I highly doubt it'd work but such is the match engine limitations.

If it was kept purely narrow we'd just get incredibly crowded and the tactic wouldn't work. Its why my two false nines are always capable of playing on at least one wing, put Icardi or a straight up striker there and it turns to shit.

However when defending, it can be a bombscare as there's no cover on the wings for ya fullbacks. The left/right centre mids are told to go out wide but it rarely happens. Would be an horrific tactic for a lesser side. Whole idea is to break up any counter via midfield, if they get past it the opposition normally gets a good chance so Saul/Sanches work a fuckton during the game.

EDIT: So someone like Bernardo Silva (I don't actually want him, its in my scout report), 40 international caps, played in France for years won't get a work permit, but a 19yo Barca regen with 1 cap does?!

I can't really say with United as if you're successful, the money is batshit. I can spend 250mil every summer (after selling, of course), lose 20mil every single month and still have a bank balance of around 200mil at the start of the next season due to sponsorship, tv and competition money. The Premier League is insane. My average on big name players has been about 300k, for squad players, around 100-130k.

Yeah Germany is always a great save. Did RB Leipzig in 15 and Schalke in 16, always takes at least five years before you're pushing Bayern toe to toe.

The social media thing is okay but by fuck is it repetitive, and each and every selection of tweets follows the same set-up. Two positive, one negative. Player comes back from serious injury and there's always one fan saying the player just wanted some time off or some silly shit. Icardi scores 7(!) in a match and you still get the one fan saying he was good but he wasn't THAT good.

Yup, its in game fans tweeting what seems to be about 50 potential tweets over and over again. Its fun for like the first three months, then you've seen it all. I haven't seen anything new from it in three seasons, and often you'll get fans tweeting the exact same tweet in succession.

The Brexit thing not working correctly is hilariously representative of a lack of QA on the QA process. Just testing barebones implementation but not the actual scenarios. This is what a lack of serious competition gets you.

Front three of Dybala, Neymar and Icardi are apparently amateur level three days after our side put 7 past Brighton in the league at the weekend. Their two goals were in the last 10 minutes, their only highlights, of course :D

Started with Juve, turned off first window budgets as I always do (I think it's more realistic that way). This does leave me with very few options at CM unti Marchisio and Sturaro are back from their long injuries. I've played the Super Cup against Milan so far, lined up in a 4-4-2. Might switch to the classic 3-5-2 once enough midfielders come back. I'd also love to try a Christmas tree formation down the line with Pjanic and Dybala doing what they want behind Higuain.

The squad is pretty good these days in FM terms at least, and doesn't have much shite to bin - Andy Carroll is definitely on the shitlist though as Sakho and Zaza (who I think I'll try and sign permanently) are much better.

Its the most fun I've had with one in a while. I've played them all a lot, but I found 16 was only any good if you wanna exploit the fullback fuck up. This feels like a more refined 16, match engine seems pretty solid (in 2D, anyway).

Our midfield has properly kicked into gear now that Marchisio is back from the ACL tear. So far it seems that having just two central midfielders is quite ineffective and suicidal on this engine. I've completely scrapped the 4-4-2 as I now have enough midfielders to go with the classic 5-3-2.

We've got a very cheap €18M clause on Berardi which I'm thinking about activating, but I would not know where he'd fit in, unless I do try out a Christmas tree. I'm wary about changing Dybala's current role though, he's on fire, just scored 5 goals against Dortmund in a 6-1 win.
