Alex Sandro is so good it's almost ridiculous. It's been that way in real life as well this season. Higuain on the other hand has only scored 4 goals so far but it's still better than Mandzukic's 2. Brought Berardi in as I said, then got some extra depth in midfield as Lemina is off to Africa for a bit, and I didn't really have a backup for Pjanic. Ødegaard comes with a surprisingly low €10M option, which I will probably activate depending on the budget I get in the summer. Partey comes with a €5M option, but he's not good enough going forward for my box-to-box role so he probaby won't join permanently. He's got better attributes for a defender than a midfielder to be honest.

The league is looking quite close, I'm hoping to hit a streak of consistency like the one we hit in late Autumn which brought us from a crappy mid-table start back to the top.

We've got PSG in the Champions League, tough match, unfortunately we came 2nd in the group because Dortmund scored a last minute winner in their game and we conceded a last minute goal in ours. We're in the cup semifinals despite playing backups and kids so that's nice, but it's not really an important competition.

Yeah, for some reason INTER is the default short name. And the non-EU rules, I think they are a bit different from last season, but I'm still not entirely sure. I tend to buy from Europe anyway.

No idea what I'm doing wrong either, this same tactic got me like 10 wins in 11 games or something like that in October and November. I just don't see how my tactics could be this bad that the best team in the league on paper just doesn't win anymore. For some reason I only got €38M for transfer budget, I would have thought I'd get a much, much higher figure. Fortunately the retirements of Buffon, Evra and Barzagli free up a lot of space but still. I wanted Perin to replace Buffon but Everton offered him a higher wage and he went there. I got Sportiello who is a good Italian keeper, but might not be good enough so I'm looking at Oblak now. Milan rejected €60M+Neto for Donnarumma so never mind that.

They're added for no real reason, doesn't even require a stat.

Higuain has decided he wants to leave and gone all unhappy and transfer requesty. Madrid sent about five €35M offers before giving up but Man Utd just came in with €95M which I couldn't really reject or the squad would probably crucify me.

That does mean I have that amount to spend on a striker. Who is the best goalscorer I can find? I still have the option to cancel the Higuain sale but I don't think I should given that he's unhappy and all.

Man City rejected 70 million for Icardi, so I went for Diego Costa who was on the transfer list. €40M, lower wages than Higuain and accepted just being a rotation player instead of a key player. Seems like a good deal to me.

Alright, transfer window basically over. Lots of player leaving, we had about 30 unwanted players in the U20 squad. From the senior squad out went Lichtsteiner (€1.6M), Neto (€6.25M), Mandzukic (€9.75M), and Higuain (€95M). I also took the option on Cuadrado for €9.75M and immediately sold him to Milan for €25M. Bayern activated the €21M option on Coman.

I went with Oblak and Sportiello as goalkeepers, Oblak was expensive but replacing Buffon was never going to be cheap. Criscito cost quite a bit but he's club grown from way back which is very useful in Champions League. Benatia was a beast last season so €17M is definitely worth it. Diego Costa I said above was needed to replace Higuain and rotate with Zaza. Ødegaard for €10M should prove to be an insane bargain down the line. Kessie and Calabria are decent prospects as well.

In total we spent €163M and received €134M, bit of a huge window this one.

I plan to line up with a diamond, or with a narrow 4-3-3 against small teams.

I thought that rather than spunk the inevitable warchest I get I'd keep some continuity in the team, so Ibrahimovic's contract extension option has been triggered and I've managed to keep Rooney around too despite him wanting a new challenge.

It depends what level you're starting at. If you're Liverpool for example, it might be harder for you to have any kind of discipline over the team.

But as Brighton, it may be a little better shifting yourself towards a tracksuit manager. Having yourself be a top coach will help until you get the reputation to bring in a good team will help. Take the coaching courses whenever possible to help you out too.

Real did exactly what they did with you and Dybala. I rejected a 75mil bid, Pogba stayed unhappy for three seasons and I had to sell as his contract had one year left. He ended up at PSG while I won four CLs :D

That's generally minimum price with add ons, which brings initial spend down a fair whack. I never do transfers above 40mil as a lump sum. Spread over 48 months, add a 50 league appearance add on and about 15% of profit of next sale.

Unfortunately it seems that when players have a release clause, the clubs just do not negotiate. I've tried this with players that have a high release clause and even low release clause, the clubs just never negotiate. It's kind of annoying because irl even a release clause will never be a lump sum. (see the Higuain deal)

For Saul I had to go lump sum because he has the mandatory Spanish release clause.

I usually do half the fee upfront, half over 48 months then if need be, the 50 apps add-on and profits of next sale.

The Polish Toby. He's the best Polish newgen that I've found in the game thus far and I've been giving him minutes since he signed and he managed to chip in with 5 goals in 7 starts, including 3 in his first two games. Could be banging for the side.

I had to give him a lot of bonuses (some of which he'll never see as he's not scoring 30 in a season for example) to get his wage demand down to something I could offer. Sadly he hasn't really worked out that great. He scored a couple but he was largely anonymous when on the pitch. He's going to get a 50% wage boost next season so I need to punt him fast.

January window closed, Saul was the only player I brought in but we didn't really need any more. Besides, I don't like changing the team in January. Sturaro and Pjaca out; with the latter leaving, I promoted Kean fully to the first team, previously I had made him available for the youth team so he had only gotten a couple senior appearances off the bench. Scored a beauty as a sub against Cagliari and he just got a brace in his first ever start. I'm not sure how well he develops but he's only 17 and some of his attributes are already high, we're talking 16 Off the Ball, 14 Finishing, 14 Long Shots.

The league's going well, we've hit a proper run of form (9W 1D 0L) since a bad loss at Napoli in December. Inter have kept up fairly well though, they're just 5 points behind. The other teams are not a threat anymore.

Pjanic's four-month injury from last season really dropped his physical attributes so I'll be playing Ødegaard almost as much as him probably. I've given Ødegaard the number 10 shirt and Kean the number 9 shirt, so they'll be in and around the first team for the coming years. Saponara was free so I got him just in case I need to sell Pjanic in January, that way I already have another option in his role.
