We've snuck into the Champions playoff with a win on the last day of the 'Preliminary Round', which is the thirty season standard season. Thirteen points off the title and ten off the European places though, which essentially means there's no chance, so I'm going to use these as free games and start blooding in the young players who'll be getting game time next year.

We lost in the quarters to United last season, then battered them this year 5-2 on aggregate in the semis. The final was close, but I bollocked fuck out of my side at half time (yes even at 2-0 up I regularly bollock my side). Isco was pathetic and may be sold as I've got youth CMs that will eclipse him in a season or two.

Went to check how Rangers were getting on in my save and it's not great; they have four players. Joey Barton and Niko Kranjcar remain of the current squad, former Ibrox wage thief Francisco Sandaza has returned, and their 'key player' is former Celtic and Aberdeen man Niall McGinn.

Suarez release clause :drool: He's a few months off 34, and was only valued at like £4.5mil so I took a punt and, alongside £275k a week and a 50% sell on clause, he signed. Handanovic is purely for tutoring, Tchakpessi and Robson are shite tier youths but I needed full backs for my u18s. Images:

How are people finding defending crosses. I'd say pretty much every goal I let in comes from a cross of some sort. Just lost 3-0 in the cup, all 3 from crosses, the first a cut back along the floor, the second a floating cross headed in and the third a cross to the edge of the area and a volley home. If you had told me at the halfway mark we'd be second I'd have snapped your hand off but we were on blistering form at the start of the season. We got an injury to our best player who was ripping the league a new arsehole and it all fell apart, really. Him being out coincided with us winning only 2 out of 7 and slipping down to third at one point. We've just got him back from injury, though, and he's scored 3 in 3 straight away. I'm just scared of over playing him and he goes down again. Here he is:

Happened pretty quickly (talks started on the 8th, so 19 days) and it's both good and bad for me.

The £500k doesn't sound like much but we have £107k a week free in wage so that's a max of £6m or so which is huge for us. The bad is that the old chairman was a bit of a geezer. He accepted bids for about 7 of our best youth players since I've been here and always sacked the bids off when I complained, he really did listen to me. No idea how nice this guy is going to be. Could lose a lot of players if he's a dick as we get weekly bids for some players.

Would have liked to go up as champions but the kamikaze formation just wouldn't allow it. We scored 77 but conceded 46 for fuck sake. Anyway, a serious clear out and re-think of the formation is in order as the teams in the goat herding premiership are far better in quality than what we possess. In other news I had my first youth intake at the club and there were some very tidy kids that came through. One keeper and two forwards in particular are very promising and would probably make the bench straight away if I stayed in this division.

I'm quite intrigued by the group I've got at B71 and I've got room to add a few bodies in and I've already signed a top quality utility player on a free. Having sneaked into the Championship Playoff phase of the league in the last fixture we wound up finishing fifth in the league. Ten points from seven games was enough to pick up three positions in the league. Also, it turns out the dickhead who scored six goals against me, Luka Belic, is actually a graduate of my own youth system now playing for West Ham, so he goes on the shortlist as someone who I might bring back some day. They want three million for him at the moment, which I can afford but won't pay, but I'm certain nobody else will pay it either so he'll be available on a free next summer.

Pre-season hasn't gone great. All of the players I've approached that would improve our squad have flat out refused to even negotiate and so I've been forced to sign a few that can only be described as filler. I've altered the kamikaze 3-4-3 into a 3-1-4-1-1 in an attempt to shore up against the tidal waves that are incoming. The top few teams in this Premier League will probably rip us apart but I'm powerless. I've drafted in more of the youth squad than I wanted to, as well. If the formation works out we could maybe get lower mid-table but if not I could see us getting annihilated.

I reckon these things should be tweakable before you start a game, rather than hardcoded into the game engine. They must know people like to play in different ways. It's no different to having the fog of war switched on/off.

I've got a homegrown game going with Slavia Prague and this has happened to me a couple of times. The reason it is so frustrating is that it should at least let you negotiate the deal and then either accept/reject then the board could overrule you if you rejected what they consider to be a good deal. The only saving grace I have found is that if the player has an optional contract extension (which the majority of my youths do), then you can activate that after the transfer offer is accepted and it will cancel the transfer. Obviously you'd then have to give them a new deal with an optional extension in should any interested parties come calling again.

Jesus Christ it's the difference is prices that'll be the biggest jump. The last game I went mad on was CM03/04 and it's all I've played over the last 12 years, albeit sporadically. Could never get into any of the others.

It'll be weird to play games with players that actually play for those teams in the present day. Back in the day I could name the vast majority of first team players from the top two leagues. Nowadays I can watch MOTD and not know half the fucking people on there. I can see myself knowing loads about current football again :drool:.

Off. I have 24 scouts as I like to scout every potential region (there's like 15-18 or so) with results set to 15-24, minimum three star potential. Then I'll send a few on established player searches in the major regions, then one scout on a first team player search worldwide, and one on hot prospect.

Ever since the Championship Manager days I switched it off and it just became a normal thing for me to do when starting a new game. I still have it switched off for this journeyman save, but would be interesting to see how everyone else in here sets up their game.

Well, ya can't. Player Search depends on your club's world knowledge and players already scouted. So I have 57% world knowledge, plus scouts means I see around 70% of players. It was around 30% when I first joined Newcastle.

All attritbute masking does is make you have to scout a player a few extra times, really. Just drags it out a bit.

Ah, I see. I've always kept it on to avoid an unfair advantage on top of the fact that you usually know the best gems after a few games, but that doesn't seem too unreasonable. I was confident in our first two qualifying rounds and that played out. When we drew Besiktas I thought we were fucked (as I mentioned in the thread, I had a dump/crash and it was some a lot shitter) but we dominated them in Poland (2-1 was lucky for them) and did enough in Turkey. They battered us but we scored an 86th minute goal to send it to extra time and we pulled it out.

The group wasn't too bad and the 3-2 win in Germany was fucking glorious.

We don't use wingers but my scouts were raving about him and at £27.5k I couldn't say no. I'm going to train his an AMC but he's going to be largely used for potential profit.

When he was signed he was the sixth choice striker for two spots. I gave him a few starts and he kept getting better as he ended up as our number 2. 12 goals and 7 assists in 18(8) appearances. Romanian beast.

It was a bit of a mixed bag form-wise with a run of wins followed by a sharp decline and a winless and goalless run on a few occasions. If the league was split into two half-seasons I'd have apparently finished 7th and 8th, so thanks to the teams around who were way less consistent.

The late season run pushed me over the line and also relegated Harry Kewell's Walsall. Which was nice.

Bidness for the season. Already had Dan Agyei and Jamie Sterry in on loan so Grandison added a distinctly League One flavour to the backup rightback position, also handily being a Cov academy graduate. Alexander McQueen is versatile on both flanks and also can knock up a haute couture third kit.

Financially and despite our debut Massimo appears to have a hold on everything as we're actually quite well off. We bought Elland Road and now we're awaiting its expansion whilst the youth facilities have been improved too.

If I stretched things I can make a complete home grown first eleven.but they're blatantly not ready for the top flight. I can imagine the likes of Prescott, Downing and Loizou bossing the Championship so a relegation providing we keep everyone isn't going to be too catastrophic. Even I'm bored telling the world how we're a young squad and we'll learn though.

First impression is that this seems about right for the amount of effort to get into the game as I'm already three games down with the mighty München Lions (Or TSV 1860). It was a strange season in the league for us because every single game was a struggle because we would spaz out all the time. No amount of screaming and tactic changing worked.

The two winners prior to us were Lechia, who spent a lot of the season 16th, and Lech. Both of them finished in the bottom half and had to fight for relegation. Legia also looked like horsewank for almost all of the season and barely snuck into the top 8. I actually thought they wouldn't make it.

Bring on a 17 year old youth team striker and he pounces on a defensive error and smashes it in minutes after coming on. I shut up shop and take home a lovely point. Beautiful.

Still slightly gutted though, because he was comfortably the best player in the side and the first of my own developed youngsters to get an international cap. If he keeps developing as he has there's probably a good chance I won't get another youth better than him through. Fucking sod's law that he'd come through long before I have the reputation to keep him.

AC Oulu were founded in 2002, in some amalgamation of other clubs in the area, which presumably weren't financially viable to all keep afloat.

In that time they've spent two seasons in the Finnish top tier, winning the second tier title in 2009. They were relegated back down for financial irregularities in 2011 and have been in the second tier ever since.

We play at Raati Stadion, which seems to only have one stand and is surrounded by water.

So I've hammered through two seasons of Finnish football with AC Oulu this weekend.

Season 1 - 2016



Journey started in the second tier of Finnish football as a semi-professional club with mid-table expectations. Always turn first window budgets off and we didn't have any money anyway, so I couldn't do much in the transfer market and we got off to a slow start as a result. Then we had a spell of ten games where we knocked in 8 wins and two draws which propelled us from mid-table to clear at the top.

Injuries to our small squad took their toll after that, but in and around a few howler results we managed to cobble together enough wins in the run in to stay at the top of the table and gain automatic promotion to the Veikakausliiga.

Can't recall exactly what the budget was we were given, but it was pretty meagre, understandable given we were over £100k in debt at that point. Browsing the free transfer bin I managed to pick up a couple of players who'd go straight into the first team and then it happened. A few clubs had been sniffing around our 20 year old £5k rated full back Anselmi Nurmela and as per I'd been fending off offers by raising the negotiation to a silly amount which meant club after club would withdraw their offers and I'd get to keep a player I didn't want to lose. Well, that was until Aberdeen came along and I couldn't believe my luck when I suggested £250k for him and they accepted.

With a heavy heart the transfer went through, which cleared the debts and gave us £100k to spend on players. Which for a newly promoted club from the Finnish second tier is like having a warchest. I whacked a bit into the wage budget and then snapped up a Finnish newgen who looked pretty good and was already getting youth games for Finland (more on him later).

Just when I thought it couldn't get any better, this happened.

A cracking end to a great first season.



Season 2 - 2017



Meeting the players for pre-season I confidently told them that I wanted us to stay clear of a relegation battle, which sadly, to a man, they didn't like. Rounding on me like a pack of hyenas they said I was taking the piss and I knew it. Fucks to a man, all of them. The end result was their morale plummeted and I was back in the slippery slope of 'morale manager', with a plethora of orange and red arrows of death to deal with.

The season started and we weren't great, leaky as fuck at the back and while we could score goals at times to compensate, there were far to many CM00/01 superkeeper style matches that just fucked me right off.

After 9 games we were sat second bottom and things were looking pretty bleak.

Then, as had happened in the first season, things started to gel. We were still shit at the back, but the goals were flying in. Niklas Jokelainen (who was inexplicably on loan at Stoke in our first season) started smashing them in for fun and Gael Etock (yes, he formerly of Barca's youth academy and another free transfer) was setting up and scoring them like a lo rent version of Ronaldinho.

We went into the last game in third place in the league, knowing a win would secure third spot and a place in the Europa League.

As you can see, we lost, but our rivals all muffed it too and we mad Europe. Many jayjays were had after that, I can tell you.

And that takes things to the current date of the save, 22nd October 2017. The Suomen Cup will start in January 2018, with the league kicking off again in April 2018. I'm guessing our European campaign (the first in Oulu's short history) will begin at some point in July.

Original squad member who I've been using as both an attacking full back and central defender. Unusual for Finland in that he doesn't have a haircut in the style of floppy mop on top combined with a shaved back and sides.

He's the first of quite a few players in my squad that are courting interest from the UK, I decided not to accept a £500k bid from Villa in the window, which might have been madness now I think about it, but (while those stats might not look like it) he's actually pretty good for the Finnish league, and I like it that he was here originally. Would be nice to keep some of the original squad as we (hopefully) progress.

Came through our youth ranks during the first season. Currently trying to retrain him as an attacking full back, which is proving slightly problematic, but we'll get there.

First came to my attention in this save when I was on the wrong end of a 3-0 drubbing at the hands of JJK in our first season. With his contract expiring I followed him from there on in, but he didn't initially want to join after finding himself on the free transfer list. Then our £250k windfall came in and the money grabbing sh... lovely man, changed his mind. 16 goals and 10 assists this season make him pretty much indispensable for the moment.

Now this one is indispensable. On loan at Stoke last season, his return saw him score 30 top flight goals in 30 games. Half of the Championship want him and during the transfer windows I'm having to fend off bids and/or lie to him on a daily basis to keep him.

Got really high hopes for this one. Snapped him up from Ilves for £200k over 48 months after the Finnish youth team saw fit to give him games and my scouts raved about him. Only drawback at the moment seems to be a lot of niggling injuries. He scored 7 in the 15 games he did play in his first season with me though.

The Polish Toby. He's the best Polish newgen that I've found in the game thus far and I've been giving him minutes since he signed and he managed to chip in with 5 goals in 7 starts, including 3 in his first two games. Could be banging for the side.

I had to give him a lot of bonuses (some of which he'll never see as he's not scoring 30 in a season for example) to get his wage demand down to something I could offer. Sadly he hasn't really worked out that great. He scored a couple but he was largely anonymous when on the pitch. He's going to get a 50% wage boost next season so I need to punt him fast.

Had a decent enough start but then it all went to shit, I decided to make a 4-2-3-1 wide for the Slask game. It got us some results but it looked dodgy as fuck so after those two back to back losses to Cracovia and Gornik I made a 4-3-1-2 and it made a huge difference. We looked a lot better and were getting decent results.

Bought him as I was getting so annoyed at Nowak, our number 1. He had an awful debut letting in 3 goals, but he picked himself up and kept us in many games. The fans were clearly pissed off at our old keeper as he was voted our best signing despite playing in only 16 games.

He then scored a hattrick against Lech in the second leg of a cup game and that seemed to give him so much more confidence. Happened pretty quickly (talks started on the 8th, so 19 days) and it's both good and bad for me.

The £500k doesn't sound like much but we have £107k a week free in wage so that's a max of £6m or so which is huge for us. The bad is that the old chairman was a bit of a geezer. I was confident in our first two qualifying rounds and that played out. When we drew Besiktas I thought we were fucked (as I mentioned in the thread, I had a dump/crash and it was some a lot shitter) but we dominated them in Poland (2-1 was lucky for them) and did enough in Turkey. They battered us but we scored an 86th minute goal to send it to extra time and we pulled it out.

The group wasn't too bad and the 3-2 win in Germany was fucking glorious.

It was a strange season in the league for us because every single game was a struggle because we would spaz out all the time. No amount of screaming and tactic changing worked.

The two winners prior to us were Lechia, who spent a lot of the season 16th, and Lech. Both of them finished in the bottom half and had to fight for relegation. Legia also looked like horsewank for almost all of the season and barely snuck into the top 8. I actually thought they wouldn't make it.
