What's the training? Like where you pick the focus for each week/game at the start of the month, or does it go more in depth?
Jimmy Floyd

All I do is simply hire good coaches and then do 'ask assistant to assign' at the top of the training screen. Then you can see how many stars you're getting for each training area at the bottom.
No doubt you can do it in immense detail if you want, but life is too short, or mine is at least.

I've downloaded FM on my desktop as the battery on my laptop is too iffy and if left unplugged for more than a couple of minutes it turns off. Other than my saved games what data do I drag across with me because at the moment all the teams have reverted (deleted all folders etc) and I don't exist on the Hall of Fame.

Got bored yesterday and downloaded FM Scout to have a look at the young'uns coming through.
There's only one player Under 20 above one eighty something PA and that's Josh King coming in at 200 PA. Who does he play for you ask? Southampton
So how do I make him Messi?
Is that a regen or the Josh King of Bournemouth?

Will bumping him up to the U23s for now do anything? I've just signed players that cover his position in the main team.
edit: Lol at the similarities between my and Giggles game. I pulled out of a last minute deal to sign Witsel at far too large amount a week because I found this guy.

With coaching I've always signed good coaches for each category then assigned some random mope to all the categories as well to max out * rating and lower workload. Is that right?

I also put all my youth players in the first team and just make them available for the u21s and u18s, so i don't have to bother with youth coaches. Hope that''s not wrong cus I've been doing that for years.

Witsel was all I could get to try replace Ward-Prowse and only €8m left and I only ended up finalising because Nacho pulled out and went to City. The plan was him at the back and Dendoncker in midfield.

Ward-Prowse is wanted by Watford in my game so I'll be fine. Redmond is a proper weird one though. He didn't score before December in my game despite being reasonably regular, ended with 10 goals and 10 assists and a 7.27 rating.

You could probably have got Carles Alena for that. His technical stats on the last version wound up like Iniesta's and he doesn't appear to have been downgraded this year.

I got as far as €12m (I didn't even have it) and Barcelona kept rejecting. Even a 'suggest terms' made them say they were too disappointed at €12m to name a price.
Must have had a rep or potential bump then. I bought him in three separate games last year for less than five million.

Why can this thing not fathom formation changes? I normally play 4-1-2-3 but switched to a 4-3-3 for a game there, but the match review lays out the team in the regular formation and has me fielding questions about why Charlie Austin played in midfield.
EDIT: Anyway, after the crash had to go through that last round again. I beat West Brom and Man Utd won away to Chelsea leaving me one point worse off than before. Final day of the season now and I've a home game vs Stoke. A 1-0 win will take the title unless Utd beat Palace by 8.

League won. Tadic won both PFA and FWA player of the year awards and on the day the title was won he asked for a new deal
Did you promise him you'd buy another striker when he signed the deal? They seem to be having trouble getting the promises to apply to the season they should do, so if you did there's a chance he's actually pissed off that you didn't buy a striker last season, which also makes little sense but there we are.

I've never had anything on that scale before. It was from a 6-0 win over a Charlton side more akin to a Sunday morning pub league than the Championship. Webb-Foster is an interesting one, young kid who looks like Tommen Baratheon who I had to pick up for peanuts from League One reserves because I have no money and no strikers, but he's turned out to be a god.

Yeah these two ended up costing me the league.
That, and the fact that I got TWO people sent off in my last game against Palace (from double yellows as well) and only managed to scrape a draw in that game (which is kind of amazing since I played offensive with one center back at the end). It wouldn't have mattered, because Spurs - who won the league - needed to draw their gamer or lose it, which they didn't.
Still, I'm well fucked off, it's like I spent the whole season playing other shit like the League cup and FA cup and that screwed me in the league.
I've score a lot of goals, 93 I think compared to Spurs for instance who scored like 70 or so, but I'm also letting quite a lot in.
At the end of the season I swapped my flat 4-3-3 to a 4-3-1-2 for a few games, and Mata was fucking killing it, scoring every single game. Intend to rotate between those next season.
My defensive tactics is a 4-3-2-1 with AMR/AMLs and a flat midfield trio. That doesn't work so well though, so I think I'll change to a 4-1-3-2 with two strikers, like DS' tactics but defensive.
Anyway, season isn't completely over, I have to still play the FA cup final, and the EURO cup final. So I could actually get a stupid Treble, since I won that fucking League cup as well, but honeslty it all counts for nothing since I didn't win the league, I think. At least it might please the board.
Now watch me lose both those games. Laters.

I'm really struggling for a challenge as I think I delved in too much upon release. So I figured if we all throw out a few ideas then I shall both put them on the opening page and set up a challenge section of sorts. I've got all John, Mahows and Yevrah's screenshots and info for their saves, would any of you be interested in uploading your saves at various points?
That must have been a personally pleasing result.
It was, and we done Basel in the final qualifying round to be rewarded with a group containing Chelsea and Bayern, both of whom should fuck me to death. Bayern seem to have kept up the looting of Dortmund in this save, nicking Ousmane Dembele and Mikel Merino from them after seasons in which they appear to have been shit hot.

I keep a three file rolling save so the most varied points I have are the last three months, but from now on I'll export one at the end of each season or something if you want.
You still haven't done a proper youth system game have you? Why not try that, with someone like Atletico Bilbao if you don't want to have to build from nothing?

You have to accept all transfer offers?
and/or
you aren't allowed to renew existing contracts?
Can only sign players on a free?
Can only sign homegrown players?
I've never tried it but you could do that thing where you can only sign players you've played against / your scouts have found.
Or just go for the hardest game imaginable. Pick the poorest club in the poorest country at the lowest level possible, and win the Champions League / equivalent.

I'll take all three suggestions and mould them into one. I've loaded Andorra, selected FC Atletic America and I'm only allowed to sign staff. Any players have to come from our youth set up which at present is basic, minimal junior coaching and a limited youth recruitment.

A freebie, he wont spend much time at the club as he'll be loaned out a lot to try and get some first team football as he's a long way from starting for us.

£1.1m, he'll also spend a lot of time out on loan and I imagine that he'll end up being sold for profit.

£2.5m, potentially rising to £3.5m. Again though, I can't see him breaking into our first team but some big clubs were interested in him.

Forgot to take a screenshot of the table and I'm too lazy to take one now. We pissed it again though with 60 points all told after the split compared to Legia's 41. No one in the league can get close to us.

A second season with Barca in the group and another double over them. Massively pissed off at the United result in Poland but we were fine in the end.
I was seething at the first leg in Ajax though but Van Den Boogaard went into mental mode at home and scored 4 goals to help us go through.
Anyway, so we got to the final:

The first half was a bit nervy because nothing happened at all, I have the game on key highlights and it didn't cut to one at all which always seems to scare me. In the second half though we were great.
Big props has to go to our main centre back:

THIRTY ONE interceptions is fucking mental, he was a brick wall and wouldn't let anyone pass. The geezer is such a beast.
Stunning shit, I couldn't believe it as we've been fisted every time by United in previous matches. Even when we drew they battered us.
Squad stats:
http://i.imgur.com/XyybkQM.png
Thinking of selling Julio Caesar when the window opens, he was our main goalscorer in the previous season but I found myself starting Tommie Goossens down the final stretch and I've got some nice youth strikers out on loan. His £3m tag worries me a little though, my whole squad is low but that's disgusting. I also might sell Fofana as he does the least in the midfield and if Chelsea come in with another mental bid (I think they went to around £60m) for Javier Martin I'm going to find it hard to reject.

Club/league rep innit.
With the squad being basically the same as it was last season, a miracle in itself since it means we weren't raided, European football is absolutely fucking me. We're sitting sixth, ten points off the pace after a third of the season, and we're suffering in Europe too having just been scudded 4-1 by Dynamo Kiev. Following on from my first post we moved into the second season, bringing in 5 or 6 players who were remarked improvements over the outgoing players whose contracts I let expire at the end of my first season in charge. I only lost a single player who I was looking to keep in Robert Mirosavic, a Serbian U21 International who wouldn't budge from his demands of £300 p/week.
Pre season saw us do well against similar reputation teams from the same level in the pyramid but in other regions of Sweden. A lot of players were not happy that I chose to bring the team back 8 weeks before the start of the season (the default it was going to give me was 12!). This left me pretty frustrated after organising 5 pre season fixtures that the majority of the team were still not match fit come game week 1 of the season. We stuttered to a start in the league matches drawing the first 3 but we then kicked on to win 4 on the trot followed up with a draw against top of the table Rosengard which took is up to where we needed to be in the table, the top 2.
Then it all went wrong... a 0-0 draw against the bottom of the league side who hadn't registered a point all season was where the wheels fell off. From that game we lost 3 on the spin, albeit to better teams than the bottom of the league side but the board weren't happy. They called me in and wanted assurances I tried to tell swerve there complaints and be as slopey shouldered as possible but they were having none of it, they demanded 11 points from the next 5 games, I had no choice but to agree. I tried to rally the troops with a team meeting, nobody reacted well to that. A clash away from home against the second place Hassleholms followed and we couldn't do anything to stop their firepower eventually succumbing 4-2, another loss followed against second bottom Osterlens and that was it I was stood outside the stadium with my bag on a stick.
Back to the job centre it was for me, my spell at Hogaborgs had done nothing for my reputation so I was back to where I was a year and a half ago. Surprisingly within a week of my sacking I had 3 interviews lined up, all coming from over the border in Denmark. 2 of the 3 clubs messed me around too much, the 3rd club were eager from the start and actually offered me a wage rather than nothing like 1 of them, so that was where my next step in the footballing world would be, Boldklubben af 1908.
A newly promoted club this season we only have 15 players (http://i.imgur.com/sdpBzWv.png) on the books and no backroom staff, based on my success at Högaborgs I'll probably last about 6 games, the board are expecting me to fight bravely against relegation so maybe that will give me longer but given I've got 15 players and 3 weeks until our first competitive game of the season it's going to be an uphill struggle. Due to the strange Danish lower league structure we might actually have a better chance than first expected if we can get some players in over the first half of the season. We play in a group of 8 teams (1 of 3) which the top 4 of each group go into a 12-team promotion league and the bottom into a 12-team relegation league, of which the bottom 4 teams get relegated.
Joining Blodklubben af 1908 then first thing that was abundantly clear was the complete lack of staff, I had 15 players across my Senior, B & U19 squads, and no backroom staff. With only 3 weeks to go until the start of the season the first thing I did was put out job adverts for a Coach, an Assistant Manager and a Scout. Given that I had no other staff to help and funnily enough no knowledge of lower league Danish football I was a bit stumped when it came to getting personnel in. Luckily (or maybe not depending on how this turns out) we had an affiliate club in Brondby IF, one of the biggest clubs in Danish football. With next to no knowledge of their ability I managed to poach 6 players from there reserve and youth squads, all on unpaid Amateur contracts, that takes my squad up to 21 players for the start of the season. The fans were disappointed with each and every one of the signings and after they were brought on board and I could see there actual attributes, to be frank, I'm not surprised.
After the 2 weeks of my job adverts being up I had applications for the Scout & Physio position and a short while after the Coaching position. Unfortunately there was no interest as yet in the Assistant Managers job so I'd be going into the competitive season without an Assistant. What surprised me a lot about the staff hiring was the fact that the wages were so low, I know that they're part-time but Denmark isn't exactly a poor country but my Scout & Physio are being paid £15 & £10 p/week respectively. I tried to offer a few of the coaches that applied for the coaching role the Assistant Managers job but they all wanted in the region of £300 p/week, which considering my maximum wage is £40 p/week and I'm only on £140 p/week, I just hope people who apply for the actual Assistant Manager job don't want that much otherwise I'll probably be flying solo all season.
I had 4 friendlies scheduled after joining, 3 against non-league Danish opposition, resulting in a loss and 2 wins with nothing more than building fitness up in mind. My final friendly was against Vejgaard a team who had just been relegated to the same tier as is but in one of the other regional groups and we managed to snatch an encouraging 3-2 victory away from home.
Going into the season we have 3 games in the first week and I only have 1 "match fit" player and with only 21 players in the squad this could be a real bad start to the season if things don't go well or heaven forbid if we pick up a couple of injuries in key positions. I have decided to go with a 3-5-2/5-3-2 system in the hopes of being fairly solid defensively, and given the fact that we had only 1 natural full back made it an easy decision to make.
The plan from here is to get through the first part of the season, almost certainly being in the relegation group for the second half of the season. As long as I keep my job and can get my scout working overtime to find some decent players for the second half of the season then with a bit of luck we can escape relegation, if I can keep my job that long. My real aim is to make sure I last at least 4 months as the club has offered to pay for my National C License, which with a bit of luck will mean I can find something else when this eventually capitulates.

I've this lot for 3 midfield positions (DM, CM, CM) and 3 forward positions (AML, FC, AMR). managed to loan out Redmond to Spurs but I probably need to sell before the window shuts.

New season. Time to win the CL for Zlatan.
For this season I've gotten two players:
Reichedly Bazoer - about 30M
Ze Gomes - about 20M
The latter was pricey considering he only had 1 year left on his contract and was only 18, but he looks like he could be really good and fuck it.
I also bought Maximiliano Romero for like 2M, but he didn't get a permit so I sent him on loan to Spain. Not sure if he can actually play there, but I suppose so since they loaned him in.

To put that in context, all four opponents were from the top flight and in the case of Lusitans and Santa Coloma, we'd beaten the current champions of Andorra and the 'to be' champions of Andorra as Lusitans landed the Lliga Grup Becier.
I haven't gone into too much detail for the simple fact I'm midway through the second season and it's easier than expected but we have a month break now before we continue. Currently 3rd in the top flight, five points behind our next oppenents Lusitans and FC Santa Coloma two weeks later so we've got a chance. Top brings Champions League football, second brings Europa and the winner of the cup gets the third European spot unless they've finished in top two in which case it goes to 3rd place so I'm hoping one of manages it. It's clear there is a pecking order but it's not going to take much to topple it. The biggest problem I have is facilities are poor (although our European run has given us funds to improve it) and the players interested are still only £500 valued Andorran's with potential and not much else. I'm hoping the youth edit I included increases the quality of them to at least give me a chance. Overall though it's relatively fun. I'm just bombing through it at the moment though until we've got to a certain stage. Not a lot else I can do as no one values the home grown talents, the national teams constant drubbings a reminder of how little quality exists regionally but we'll see. If we can go professional and boost facilities to an acceptable standard then we should be able to improve the league with our own cast offs.
The fucking Andorran league gets three European places?

Things have taken a turn for the better in season three, although I'm not sure why as I barely brought anyone in - couple of rejects and lower league reserves on frees. Perhaps the team is just gelling now and our 5-3-2 is starting to be a lot more solid. Bradshaw's 15 goals have helped but we're not ready to go up yet, that'll be another season minimum. Everton continue to nosedive, they've just sacked Giggs, and Derby have just given Tactics Tim the bullet as well. Pellegrini's West Brom are on a bit of a piss take at the top, Nakhi Wells has scored 30 goals in those 24.
http://i.imgur.com/4eZhIgl.png
There's the team, a decent unit, most of them either here originally or brought in for peanuts - I think the highest fee was £1.9 million for Cash who has been brilliant. Garbutt is really the key man with the supply from left wing back. Armstrong is back on loan for a third season as Newcastle seem happy to keep letting me do it, although he's not really scored as many as you'd expect and Bradshaw is the senior partner.

I've taken Bury to two Premier League titles, one Champions League final (lost v Barca 4-3), won three FA Cups and three League Cups. My players still want to join Marseille/Monaco etc. Its all about location, size of club and potential wages.
My dickhead red card crazy left back is now going mental that I won't sell him to Barca (no bid made, obviously). So I'm bringing in a 19yo German and he can go fuck-a-duck. He's on 110k a week, probably get 200k at Barca, who haven't gone beyond a CL quarter for 3 seasons. Real dominate the league. Bye pal. He misses around 10 games a season due to suspension, sometimes more. Has 13 aggression, 8 dirtiness (I check with FMScout). Guy's a full on mentalist.
Generally though, I take pride in selling off some moaning cunt for 40-60mil, then dominating the next season as the club they join finishes 4th and they don't even make it out of the CL groups. But hey mate, you got 30k a week extra, buzzing!
My Belgian star player (24 in 13 this season) will be kicking off soon, he's on 150k a week and I only have a 28k seater stadium. 200mil in the bank but can't be going for 200k+ wages yet, I'll be losing 10-15mil a month.

Lacking fitness going into the start of the season was always going to be a problem, and with 3 games in the first week I wasn't enthused at the start we would make. Going down 4-0 on the opening day and 2-0 in the cup 4 days later I was very concerned that we wouldn't even pick a draw up let alone a win. We managed to pick up 4 players over the next couple of weeks which would give us a fighting chance of staying up. Tokay, Jessen & Petersen bolstered the very weak midfield while Hansen would come in as first choice Target Man. With Tokay being the pick of the bunch. My scout also claimed that an 18 year old Wingback Steffen Rothausen was going to be the next big thing, we broke the bank in paying him £160 p/week as I was really struggling with depth in that area, turns out he was nothing more than average, and he's now our highest earner on a 2 year contract, should have really done a bit more scouting on him but the window was shutting and we needed numbers in.
I managed to get an Assistant Manager in at just after the halfway point in the season, as well as a Goalkeeping Coach, so the staff and training is looking a lot more promising now, and I don't have players continuously moaning about the state of training. Anyway, back to the results, we picked up our first win a convincing 3-0 home victory against Vanlose IF in the 4th game of the season and the players seemed to start gelling a bit more, I was quietly confident we wouldn't be as doomed as I thought. We then lost the next 3 on the spin before picking back up again to be in slight contention of avoiding the relegation group. Going into the last day of the season this is how the table looked.
http://i.imgur.com/oP7GayE.png
We needed a victory against Avarta, at home, who had already beat us twice this season (once in the cup) with an aggregate score of 5-0, and hope that results in other matches went our way. HIK had B93 away and AB had Vanlose away, so we didn't have the best of the fixtures and HIK could maybe be considered favourites. We grabbed an early goal to go one up, I immediately switched to a more defensive formation, dropping Gokhan Tokay back to a Defensive Midfield position, we held out until half time, where things were looking like this.
http://i.imgur.com/CRZeqkJ.png
HIK were drawing 1-1 and AB were winning 3-0, I needed B93 to grab a goal against HIK and AB to concede a couple or us to score a couple more. I thought that it was a big task but it was out of our hands so all we could do was go out in the second half and make sure we kept up our half of the bargain. Within 10 minutes of the second half starting AB had conceded 2 quick-fire goals for us to leap frog them in the table, but unfortunately within 2 minutes of the break HIK had took a 2-1 lead, they managed to double that lead after 65 minutes and it was plain sailing for them from then on in. We finished 5th and missed out on the Promotion Group by 2 points. We would be in the relegation group for after the winter break (I really don't know how my players are going to get fit enough to give this a good run, as they only come back 3 weeks before the first competitive game). In the relegation group you keep the points from the first half of the season against the team who are also in the relegation group with you, this leaves us in this position, with a further 16 games to play. The scheduling gods haven't been particularly kind to us, starting with 2 away games and finishing with 3 away games, the middle section of our season is what will make or break us I think. Here's how things look going into the Relegation Group.
http://i.imgur.com/vhuOf8Q.png
We really struggled to score goals being the joint lowest scorers in the league with only 13 goals in 14 games, my top scorer was Tokay, our holding midfielder with 4 goals and only then goals were chipped in from other midfielders and strikers but nothing consistent. We probably needed to bolster our attack but I was playing with next to no room in the wage budget, so I'll have to see how things go in the winter break. I've released all but 1 of the players I brought in for free on Amateur contracts from Brondby as the fans hated them and they weren't cutting the mustard once I managed to get my scout to find some real players, luckily I wasn't paying them anyway.
The good news is I've lasted long enough to get my National C License, the board weren't interested in me taking any further qualifications at this point though. At this point I'm quite confident we can avoid relegation as long as I can keep morale up after a tricky first 2 away games and get in a relatively secure position by the final 3 games of the season the escape could be on.
I'm sorely tempted by this after reading the thread, I can never be bothered dicking about too much with tactics though are there any decent plug and play ones floating about yet?Have a look on FM-Base and report back with your findings.

Too good for Andorra, not good enough for the rest of Europe.
We were made professional at the beginning of the season and given the amount of players who rejected us prior to that "not wanting to settle for anything less than full time", I'm hopeful we can start bringing in some bigger names and then tutor a bit more than we have.

2017/2018
I wrongly thought that beating the top divisions best two sides last season meant we had nothing to fear, especially given our cup success came about by defeating all top flight teams. We only really finished second due to the split. After 21 games the league splits in half and you then face whichever side you're in home and away. Lusitans pulled away during this stage the bastards. Cup success was a disappointment but thankfully our league finish brought European football anyway and we didn't fare too badly in our first effort as seen below. Cash and more improvements. Can't complain.

2018/2019
And if I thought I had it wrong last season, this one wasn't much better. I made the decision to blood as many of the youngsters in as possible knowing that if I finished in the top four I would claim a European spot so long as one of the top three won the domestic cup. Thankfully by the end of the season we had the chance to ensure that happened by making it to the final ourselves, unfortunately it wasn't to be though and we came away empty handed. Europe was again a good effort and given it's a squad mostly of Andorran's at this early stage I thought it was a cracking attempt. I don't think we embarrassed ourselves against the French either tbh.

I think the staff section is more related to the size of your club, facilities, reputation and then you're only allowed whatever the board deem necessary too. 50 seems small though, are all the filters reset?
Adamski
11-12-2016, 01:12 PM
Surely what the board deems necessary is number of staff at your club not how many staff you can see on staff search.
50 was a generalisation, I'm playing second division Denmark so maybe it is club size. Did you notice anything with your teams when you started small? John Andy Mahowry

I'm not sure, when I'm low I just get my director of football or chairman to employ coaches.
I only start employing them myself when the club is big enough to bring in 4.5 star coaches.
I took out adverts for any vacant positions until two seasons ago, so I didn't really check the staff search screen before that. We're still a tiny club now, the total wage bill is still only twenty three grand a week, but we can nick the better coaches from the other Serbian sides so I tend to do that rather than faffing around with the search.

698 realistic staff members. Not that bad I guess, must just all be utter shite. I tend to search on attributes and there's only 10 goalkeeping coaches with GK stat at higher than 12 for me.

Nemanja Matic has only failed to win that award twice since 2014.
Less pleasing is our overall form for the year, which sees us twelve points off the pace at the winter break. The squad has spent the first half of the season absolutely shattered half the time thanks to European football cluttering up the schedule, so hopefully the two month break followed by a one game a week schedule lets us get back to the form of last season and at least push Partizan and Red Star.

I'm a few games into the new season. I can't seem to get my front three quite right. For this season I swapped from this setup: F9 - CF (A) - F9 to AF - CF (S) - AF. Mainly because the old setup seemed to not utilize Zlatan as well as possible, he works better when he sits a little deeper.
But, now instead Zlatan works very well in the CF (support) role, whereas having two strikers as Advanced Forwards didn't seem to work out that great, almost always only one of them will perform well. So I'm currently trying out this:
F9 (Martial) - CF Support (Zlatan) - Advanced forward (Rashford / Ze Gomes).
It's... OK. But it doesn't feel quite right still. The good thing with this approach is that Paul Pogba seems to blossom a bit more in midfield (he's on the CML position as a Roaming Playmaker, behind the F9). But I still don't feel like the two outer strikers are involved enough in play.
Anyone else played a bit with a flat front 3 and have any good suggestions?

Hmm ok three Complete forwards, ey? I mean, it would make sense to do that as Barca, with MSN up front, but for me who have Martial and Rashford and Ze Gomes? They are all good but they are not "Complete" exactly.
I also play more direct than that tactic, although I do also have a possession-version of my tactic that I might try it out on.
Though I feel like I need at least one Roaming Playmaker or Advance playmaker in central midfield, as I have Mata & Mikhtarian who are both contending for places there. So I'll probably do the Complete forward setup in both my tactics, but keep my midfield a bit more role-specific instead of the Box-to-Boxy midfield they seem to want to have. We'll see how it works.
Though I suppose Zlatan will have to go in one of the Support roles here. Not sure though, since he's slow as fuck he won't exactly beat his man either so I'd like him as centrally as possible, he's killing it in the box when he has the central support role now.
What do you reckon if I would have one of the outer forwards with the Attack duty instead? Would there be a reason not to do that?

I just plug and play these days mate, no idea. I had a forward line of Zach Clough and two 18yo regens with that tactic and got second in the Premier as Bury.
Remember it's still a videogame engine so it can be exploited.
Look "under the hood" and see what the roles you've given them actually do, Maz. (Just click advanced instructions or whatever, I haven't got the game running.) For instance I wouldn't want Zlatan running with the ball often; I wouldn't want Rashford playing lots of risky passes.
For a front three here are a few things I would be looking at:
-Is my midfield able to pass to my attack enough? If not, does one striker need to come deeper? Do I need to play more direct? Play more risky passes so my runners can get behind the defence?
-Is there anyone making those runs? If you have a quick striker you generally want them on the shoulder of the defence so an advanced forward would probably make sense, especially if you have one/two other strikers coming deeper.
-Are my full backs completing their passes when they're higher up the pitch / are they able to link with the attack? If you don't have wingers your full backs are responsible for the flanks. If none of your three strikers are available for a pass then maybe you want your wider strikers as false 9s or DLFs so they come deeper (and maybe "roam from position").

Well I'm not sure, I don't watch that much of the highlights so I just see how the goals happen mostly, and the ratings at the end. And I'd only seem to get 1 out of 3 playing well up front, but giving them all CF roles now like in the Tactic DS posted and will try to start with Zlatan in the more central one anyway, as it's a possession tactic and I think he'll spend most of his time in the box anyway (where Rashford and Martial won't do as much good really.

Quit Barnsley in the fourth summer after I had to sell my best players and they didn't give me the money back to replace them. Took a gig at Torquay in the Conference, starting at 5 points from 15 or something, and played about 12 games to 4-4-4 but we were so far back it wasn't going to happen so I left them and pitched up at Colchester, who find themselves 8th in League Two at the halfway stage, about 20 points behind runaway leaders Coventry, but right in the playoff mix. European football was a massive hindrance as it turned out, with our form in the second half of the season being good enough to have pissed the league had it been that way from day one, but even finishing bottom of the group with a couple of thrashings in the books was enough to offer a massive status increase.

The side is basically unchanged from last season, with the exception of the left back I was talking about being up to the job of replacing that shitcunt Kizic if he could stay fit. Jaksic averaged 7.2 over the season and even though his stats are far from acceptable, they're better than those he's replacing.

That he's been made the U20 captain without actually having appeared for that side is both quite lol and hopefully a good sign for the future. He came through as a right winger, but I already have Milosevic working miracles there and a capable backup who might one day surpass him, so I'll be retraining this chap to play through the middle.

Hilarious surname aside, I'm hopeful that this one will wind up being more noteworthy for the money he brings in than anything he does here. If a player has excellent attributes in one area the game has seemed willing in the past to overlook fatal flaws, so hopefully that happens here and a technically brilliant goalkeeper with no composure, anticipation, or ability to have his feet leave the ground can command a handsome fee.

Ultra attacking tactics take a long while to bed in. If you're getting a sample size of 10-20 matches its not really enough, takes my sides about 12-18 months before benefits are reaped.
Beat Sheff Weds 11-1 with it yesterday along with a 7-3 win away at Monaco, and on a 21 match unbeaten run.

Not at all. I love having one club players if I can. I just go over the top in transfer windows when you're able to snap them up so freely.
I'm doubtful I'll be able to keep Jose Eguren. Dortmund, Napoli are interested in a major way, minor interest from Juventus and PSG. Do you have to pay for the scout tool? I'm curious.

Well, I rarely play as crappy teams - when you do keeping your best players is imperative of course, so it's different. But since I'm normally just Arsenal, or this time around Manchester United, I tend to just sell players after a few years in the squad and replace them with someone just slightly better that I'll buy for like 75 million, because I can.
I do that out of boredom basically, to the point where my team tends to have the best player in every position - at which point I usually give up on FM for the rest of that version.

Nope.
One of the goals in this game is to have someone top the current league appearances and league goalscorer record for the club. The goalscorer one is obtainable at around two hundred, which Marjanovic is about a third of the way towards already, but the appearance record is close to four hundred, which would require eleven seasons of play without missing a game. The current holder of that was a midfielder who made the appearances over two spells and nineteen years, but I reckon the person to break it in this will be a goalkeeper.

I like the idea of having a tightly knit squad that never really changes from season to season, a bit like Manchester United was for a while under Ferguson (or at least it felt like that), but at the end of the day one of the most fun things of the game I think is getting some new player in and see him perform in the league. Basically I think transfers are probably the most fun aspect of FM.

I'm near sorry I won the league so early in this one now as one of the best things about Southampton in this normally is bringing youngsters through. Some of them can turn out to be excellent if given first team games.
I've always enjoyed spotting some diamond hiding in the Algerian U21s and turning him into a world beater, but with this save and to a lesser extent the Zagreb one the transfer system has been a complete ballache. Now with our increased stature and that inexplicable value boost everyone got at the end of last season we almost exist outside the transfer market. Didn't sell a single player of value last year, and this summer is heading the same way, because our players aren't good enough for anyone to be particularly interested in them at their current values, and the clubs who are sniffing around aren't big enough to send my players into a strop. It's been lovely.
Zvonko Milosevic is the player I fear losing most at the moment, since he's a creative genius for this level, but even he has no one interested in him. Or rather he does, a second division Swiss side who've had a major interest for the last four years, but I think it's just a glitch.

I didn't know I was going to qualify for the group stage this season but mostly because he's just not going to get the game time unless I sacrifice a better player. I only wanted to keep him because he's clearly one of the top three Andorran players. We've still got the best one. I imagine he'll develop better at Dortmund too so that 50% sell on could help later down the line.
That in mind, it's me we're talking about, I should stock pile funds ready for when the inevitable happens.

Your wage bill must be colossal for a club that size. You're paying your defenders plus defensive midfielder the same as I'm paying my entire first team, reserves, under 18s, and backroom staff. No wonder you end up running massive losses.
Had you not found a new save to get immersed in I imagine taking over Beograd from where I am now but without any of the restrictions I've placed on myself would have been decent fun for you. An entirely homegrown, Serbian squad with twenty five million quid and three hundred grand free in the wage bill to add to it.

I'm currently at £127,000 p/w. :cab: Highest earner is on £8k. It's worth pointing out though that the Andorrans in the squad are all on £150 a week or less and prior to this season £5k was the top wage we could offer. I thought it was fairly structured all in all. I even kept achieved my pre season target of halving a squad of 100 odd players to 45.

I'll definitely give your save a go though John. I'm not too fussed what point but it would be interesting to see how quickly I damage the club financially. I've almost made it an art.
I'm on £35k a week, and your lowest paid outfield starter is on more than my highest.
After talking about what a harmonious summer it had been, with all the big clubs leaving us alone and nobody looking to leave, Nemanja Blagojevic, who is nineteen and has had two seasons of football, reckons he's outgrown the club and wants out. I told him he can see his contract out, but that wasn't good enough, so he's started a revolt. I imagine the fact that he signed a five year deal last season has something to do with him not agreeing with that solution to his problem, but fuck him. The cunt can sit on his arse until someone stumps up the £23.5m to activate the clause his agent demanded.
By 'sit on his arse' I obviously mean 'play every minute for which he's available', because he's turned out to be by far and away the best defender at the club.

We'll be playing either Levski Sofia or Zilina in the third Europa League qualifying round. We should horse either of those but I'm not sure European football is a good thing at this point. Two years ago with no Europe to contend with we pissed the league, last season we finished five points off and it was only once Europe was done for the season we really hit our stride.
Fingers crossed for someone like Leicester or Wolfsburg in the playoff so we can go out without disgracing ourselves.

Enganche might work quite well that far down Jimmy.
I've went Lyngby in Denmark second division and doing a youth only save. Going quite well, got 3-4 really promising youths from the off then got another 2-3 from the first intake who will be decent enough in the top league.
Won the league fairly comfortably in my first season. I actually didn't realise I was even close to promotion until I got the news item asking me to have a team meeting to encourage the players to gain promotion in the next match. Came out of the blue a bit as for some reason there's 11 teams in the league and everyone only plays each other 3 times. Bit odd. There's also a 3 month winter break after the second round of games leaving only 10 to play in March and April.
Won the league by about 8 points in the end. I don't think the top league is a massive step up in quality so feel I should be fairly comfortable staying up.
Will post some screens tonight.

Stole the tactic that DS posted above. 3 0-0s and lost 6-1 to Arsenal. Hate this game.

I'm also playing in Denmark at the minute, I'll have another update to post, probably this evening, got 1 game left this season. I'm a bit lower down the divisions than you in the second division currently.
The winter break does seem to be a massive pain in the arse, particularly having to play 2 lots of friendlies a season, players did seem to pick up fitness a lot better after the winter break though, even though it is seemingly longer than the summer break :cab:
Did you start in the second season as Lyngby are in the Superliga in the first season, aren't they?
In Serbia the winter and summer breaks are the same length, two months each. We do our training camp during the winter break, which seems a bit backwards, and my assistant arranges about twice as many friendlies midseason as in the offseason.

The escape was well and truly on. After a 3 month break the players came back a lot fitter than I was expecting. I drafted in another youngster for the centre of the park in Felix Brun, he was to become the best central midfielder I've got, I also managed to draft in a couple of loanees from affiliate club Brondby, who should bring a bit of competition for places in Thomas Tranum, a young poacher and Kenneth Byrvang a young solid looking Centre Half. Our team was also getting a lot more familiar with the two[0 (http://i.imgur.com/aphjlRr.png)],[1 (http://i.imgur.com/z3DC7Gt.png)] 3-5-2 formations that I had been using (one at home and a slightly more defensive one away).
I'd arranged a couple of easy friendlies and a couple against more tricky opposition and that got us right back into the swing of things scoring 10 goals in 4 games and winning 3 of the 4. The players were fit and ready to go at the start of the relegation group and go did they. We got off to a flying start, and it never really stopped flying, we won the first 7 games on the spin (adding to the 2 we won at the back end of the first part of the season for a club record 9), we then went on a blip of 3 draws but a couple more wins would all but seal the mini-league win for us and ensure we wouldn't be relegated. It was around the time of the first draw that the board came knocking to try and tie my services down for another season, which I was more than happy to do, given I had the upper hand I managed to negotiate an increase in the wage-budget. The clubs books weren't looking great and we didn't have much cash in the bank but I know I'll need funds next season if we want to be in the promotion mix. They agreed to increase my wage budget from £1.6k to £2.6k which should allow me to get a lot of quality in.
http://i.imgur.com/WAkn44o.png
The last few games I rotated and tried to use my fringe players a little more which meant that my unbeaten run came to an end which was a little disappointing but ultimately irrelevant to the end of the season. It's a little gutting that winning this relegation league is absolutely meaningless and I could have finished 8th and it have been the same result, but hopefully it'll give the players a bit of confidence going into next season and the winning run did help the board feel more confident with me at the helm, I guess. I did bring another youngster in towards the end of the season in Marco Bech (on an Amateur contract) who I was hoping could provide a bit of competition for Gokhan Tokay, but given the increased wage budget I may end up letting him go again.
We didn't have any players rated over 7.00 over the course of the season, mainly I think due to the first half of the season when we were distinctly average. In other good news my strikers managed to kick on a bit in the second half of the season and I wasn't just relying on midfielders for goals.
http://i.imgur.com/lYw3crO.png
Recruitment is going to be key over the very short summer break now, I need to strengthen defence and find a good goalkeeper to provide competition for first choice Ovays Azizi, strengthening the defence and if I manage to keep on-loan Thomas Tranum I think we might have a shot at promotion next season but I'll be able to reassess a lot better after the first half of the season, all we need to do is finish top-half to be in with a shout.

Anyway here's Bury at the start of the 2022/2023 season.
Transfers in/out (I'll only be adding cheap youngsters from here):

I've left the £71mil for that striker off, the others not showing are all out of contract shit youths. All those sales are youngsters I snapped up dirt cheap, loaned for 2-4 seasons, then sold as their price rocketed. Some of them are class, but won't get a game here.
My two main transfers in:

Currently 5th choice CM, but look at that potential
And I finally got my fecking German:
https://i.gyazo.com/2d4992e4b387df47eb49e170b694fba6.jpg
18, stats to develop in all the right places and I believe he'll reach four and a half star potential. Currently 7th choice striker, will be alternating between first team and u18s this season.
My first 11, plus notable rotation players:

Still a don, although had a rough season last season.

January signing last season. Iorfa shits it in big matches, and there's only really two notable regen right backs and they'd cost insane money.

Rejected an £82mil bid for him in the summer from Real. Will probably be sold eventually, or may replace Bamba at some point.

Called him back from loan in Jan. Gonna be world class.

Been at Bordeaux on loan for 3 seasons. Earned his chance as he won Player of the Year in Ligue 1 last season.
My midfield three though
Board has asked me to win the league, FA Cup, and semis of the CL this season. United have this geezer who just bosses it every single game:

They dropped first season, then got promoted from the Championship with me the season after, then dropped again two seasons after that. Currently stuck in the Championship.

On mine they dropped first season and then took three to get back up. Not sure what's wrong with them, but the game penalises them hugely. Their squad in the 5th season is now a load of Championship shite and I suspect they'll be heading back there.

They must have changed how Media descriptions work - because all of a sudden half my team is labelled "World-class [position]". For instance Mata is suddenly a World-class attacking midfielder even though his ability hasn't changed much, obviously, he's 29 and while he's good, my coached only rate him for 3 stars and, well, you get it.

In another turn of bizzarre events, by the way, there was an intense summer battle for the talent of one Breel Embolo from like Shalke or something like that. City and Chelsea were involved.
He went to Hull, for 46 fucking million pound. They are now comfortably 20th in the league.
