They have form for those kinds of clauses. We got Keita by buying the clause out early. Basically said as soon as it is active we'd trigger it anyway so why not make some extra cash now?

From what I gather, Firmino may settle for reduced terms, but will likely leave on a free next year. Mane hasn't yet downed tools, but I'd be very shocked if he is still here in a month. Salah will likely get all pissy and leave on a free next year too.

It's obviously all media BS, but turning down Liverpool because you were desperate for Barcelona, only to end up at Arsenal would be -4D chess.

I find it interesting that more teams [namely City] aren't interested in De Jong, as his price seems to be about on par with what is being quoted for Kalvin Phillips, which feels a bit off. I suppose there is always the wages consideration [his sound like they will be massive].

City supposedly lolled his wage demands out of the room last time round, so you can only imagine what United are paying him to move reluctantly.

Dutchies all have a massive erection for Barcelona because of Cruyff (pronounced 'Crowff', in this context, or JC14) so they'll have to drag him out of there by his toenails.

Now that Chelsea are back in the transfer market with Boehly's millions I've been keenly watching the headlines for new signings. I've got excited a couple of times, only to see that the new signings were for the womens team.

Nunez to Liverpool done for either 75+25 or 80+20 depending who you listen to.

I think that's a mental fee to be honest and am glad United aren't getting him for that amount. Liverpool are much better placed to take that gamble though.

He's 22 and raped it last seasonat a decent level, the fee looks positively par for the market.

Gammon CF is never gonna inspire me but it's exciting to see a big-name foreign signing and it's not even like we need to rely on him that heavily. Carvalho and Elliott are where the real excitement lies.

There's a lot of red flags around him regarding his passing, first touch, etc. I know I normally lol at the stat-wankers, but overperforming your xG by 10 is not remotely sustainable. Even just sticking on a compilation of his goals there's quite a few that fly in due to absolutely laughable goalkeeping.

He's had 1 season scoring at this kind of rate. I think it's a mental fee.

But he could well go on and smash it with Liverpool, and as I said they can afford to take this kind of gamble; we can't.

This definitely feels like a bit of a reactionary buy, since Mane has decided he's off.

He's a different build to anything we have now. Perhaps not the finished article yet, but if anyone will get it out of him, Klopp will. His finishing against us was incredible. I'm sure he had 2 or 3 ruled out for offside too.
One think he does seem to be is good in the air. Something which is a bit lacking in our forwards now Mane is gone.

Was Klopp not pearl clutching not that long back about 9 figure fees? Though I suppose the 100m from a few years ago is probably only the equivalent of 50 now.

Wait for us to recoup most of it using the dregs of our squad. Salary wise we'll probably be heavily reducing the wage bill this summer too as long as we don't yield to the dirty Arab's demands.

Mane(45m), Oxlade(10m) and Minamino(15m) will leave for fees that will cover most of the Nunez deal.

Origi and Karius come off the wage bill too.

I suspect after Ramsey comes in too, attention may turn to an attacking central midfielder.

Fee for Nunez seems pretty par for the course nowadays. Obviously risky, but not so many teams can afford or seem inclined to take the opposite risk these days of shelling out £20m on someone fresh out of South America/wherever who might actually turn out to be completely shite. Everyone needs to do their apprenticeship at a lesser club/other league/red bull sponsored entity it would seem. Comes with the Suarez seal of approval so hopefully he isn't just a massive racist/fellow biter.

Klopp's comments being referred to came what? 6 years ago, in the wake of the Pogba transfer? A full year before the Neymar business somewhat changed the football transfer landscape.

Yeah that far back (I’d have guessed 4 years) 100m isn’t comparable at all. If it works out then it doesn’t matter a fuck what they cost anyway. Nunez doesn’t have to do a big pile to be bigger value for money than Pogba even if he was going for 50% more now.

He's probably been moaning more recently as well, as is his want.

Not much you can do as all you get back is "lol Van Dijk cost more than any of City's defenders wot u on about m8" with all the attached overlooking.

Transfers in sport really are fucking weird when you think about it.

Does it happen in literally any other walk of life? Do like JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs buy hot shit bankers off each other? No, right?

I'm kind of surprised that the contracts players sign which don't allow them to move to another employer without fulfilling a multi-year term of employment or being "sold" are legal. Again, you don't find that anywhere else do you?

Well yes they do with signing on fees and salary incentives. The contract break is usually 6-12 months with an agreement to not contact previous customers for a year or two.

The transfer fee is for their professional registration, not their legs and liver. It sounds a bit less weird when you think of it that way.

I remember there was a baseball player who got 'sold' to the Japanese league a year or two back (player moves within MLB are all trades rather than transfers) and the average joe baseball fans were all mystified/outraged.

But those go to the employee not the employer, that's different. Unless I'm misunderstanding you (very possible).

Buying people out of contracts is pretty common in fixed term contracted work. It's one of the main problems companies that use temps have.
