18 then. 1/3 of the key days passed to see if we're on the Italian trajectory.

According to Vallance we’ve gone earlier than Italy with these measures, so it’s not really the next few days that matter. Those deaths are baked in now and will only tell us where we were from a couple of weeks back up until today. What is worth knowing is what the time difference is between us locking down compared with italy, so we can understand if we have successfully ‘flattened the curve’.

if we're on the same trajectory as Italy we've locked down 7 days sooner than they did, except and this may be crucial, we haven't actually locked down. We have, I agree though, employed some measures before they employed any.

They seem to be phasing these measures in, I reckon sport would have been stopped today had it not already, and you have to think the full LOCKDOWN will be coming next.

We’re going to use Croke Park as a drive through testing facility which should speed up diagnoses. There’s a load of walk through ones opening around the country soon.

Given that we are days away from locking old people inside, the only reason to keep schools open will be to allow key workers to do their jobs.

I was listening to the radio on the way home and people are absolute morons. One dog walker is still going to socialise with her fellow dog walkers (because that's alright, isn't it?) and the host then talked about changing storylines in Coronation Street. Yes, with the key one being no storyline for a while, if not just yet, then very soon.

Do the words global pandemic not mean anything to people?

Mason Mount was also spotted playing 5-a-side footy when he should have been self isolating.

This attitude will hurt the UK greatly.

If it doesn't directly affect them, it's not their problem. Or they use the flu numbers to justify how this is all a big dumb panic. I hate that logic especially.

I built it because I didn't believe the government's take on where we were with this, and I was right not to have done.

I appreciate it comes across that way, but I find it fascinating and it's the biggest thing to happen to the planet since arguably WWII. I do this with anything huge, it's just the way I'm wired.

I also don't want people to die and I will be following all of the instructions to the letter now that they encompass me, but I know they will die, it's there in the numbers. It's just how many.

Also, telling people gone 5 that they need to work from home from now is a monumentally stupid time to do it.

There will be people who're showing symptoms by the morning going back into the office to get their laptops, infecting the idiots who don't heed this advice.

Chernobyl only affected Europe, and even then not much of it.

This is global and it's going to change the world as we know it, if albeit only temporarily. Hell, it already is. People who don't understand that have completely misunderstood the gravity of the situation.

Without wanting to poke in a in into this NostrYevmus myth we're building here, but, as far as 'the numbers' go there's a fucking website for that (why make your own?) and, as far as I can tell, any prediction he may or may not have made was simply achievable by clicking on Italy and tracing their graph back to when they were at our daily death number.

In more interesting speculation, could this be the catalyst for the fabled European Super League? I can't imagine the likes of United (denied CL/5th) and Liverpool (denied title) will be happy to see this season binned because Brighton, West Ham and some other pisspot clubs don't much fancy being relegated. Natural break as well.

Climate change will obviously ultimately be much bigger, but we'll all be long dead by then, so for us and up to our grandparents, this is it.

I actually wonder if this gives climate change a setback. Given how many months this will impact production, could we see a short-term change scientists can point to?

I was speaking with someone a while ago, in the context of climate change, about how we were a generation who lacked (and therefore craved) an existential crisis, and then, well like the buses . . .

There was something about a pollution image I saw of above Italy or China that showed vast reductions.

I'm not a religious man, but if I were I wouldn't be surprised to be thinking this is God's way of telling us to get our shit together. Nice-ish pandemic this time round, keep fucking shit up and I'm coming after you again with a much nastier one.

I thought about this yesterday. What a perfect time for them all to say "you know what, while we have this break let's just completely fuck off entirely and start our own league, then.

Half a million people at least have died from it

Absolutely mental take. This whole thing is proper 'fuck me, it affects white people' and everyone freaks out.

From the war on terror? Only seriously affected life in about five countries. This will affect 200 and crash the world economy.

That retired nurse on youtube speculates that the Italian doctors tend to prescribe painkillers to reduce fever. I forget which ones are a no-no but there's non-steroid ones and steroid ones. One of which aggravates the infection. Might explain why younger patients are finding themselves in trouble.
