The Dressmaker is pretty good, some good moments in there. Wasnt sure by going by the name, but ended up a good film.

Possibly the least surprising revelation ever, mind. It was the most naked cash grab since splitting the Harry Potter finale in half.
What's interesting is how candid they are about it. Especially Peter Jackson himself. Given how cynical the whole thing seemed it's quite shocking that such a video exists.
The most frustrating thing for me is that there's a decent two-hour movie in there asking to be made. Two-and-a-half if you allow some licence with the action sequences.
That's the third film. Doesn't really go on to explain how he created 9 hours of absolute turd.

'71 is okay. Covers quite a lot of ground in terms of what was going on in Belfast in 1971, and does it in what seems like a reasonable accurate way. But the characters are mostly just ciphers, and the "intensity" of everything gets tiresome.

Watched Monuments Men last night. Was alright, but no more.
It's beyond unbelievable. How anyone can endure what Joe Simpson had to push through and come out alive.
Bridge of Spies is a masterpiece, and probably the best movie of the year. It hits every note perfectly. Far more balanced than the Martian, for instance. Tom Hanks is phenomenal but Mark Rylance takes the cake, I imagine he's a shoe-in for Best Supporting Actor. Every performance is great, though. Every shot is great. Damn.
Lost in Translation
Fan-fucking-tastic. Really loved it. Watched it when I was 15 for the first time and thought it was wank. I guess the actual point of it went over my head. Thought it was wonderful this time around though.
It was boring, quirky bilge for me.
I really believe there are two kinds of people, those who love Lost in Translation and those who think it's wank. It's like how it was no surprise whatsoever that Magic didn't like Joanna Newsom. He's just not that kind of person.
Sapokaniken caught my attention but the novelty wore off very quickly when I heard her boring second single.
Lost in Translation is one of the worst films I've sat through.

A friend lent me a copy of Dead Man's Shoes a couple weeks ago and I finally got around to watching it. Not sure why I put it off so long, it's absolutely brilliant.

Very similar story for me. I remember watching it as a family many years ago, and none of us were interested, ending up turning it off halfway through.
When I watched it a year or so ago I thought it was brilliant.
Maybe Joanna Newsom wasn't the best example, but you know what I mean. It's about different perceptions of pretension and different levels of tolerance for it. Like when you were shocked that Giggles liked the Grand Budapest Hotel more than I did.
That Whale movie that has 'Based on the the myth that inspired Moby Dick' has to be the worst attempt at 'based on actual events' of all time.
Going to give Blood Diamond another watch tonight, I thought it was great last time round just after it came out, so let's see if I find it better 9 years later.
Watched the trailer for that, looks appalling.
I've also now got United 93, Almost Famous, Million Dollar Baby, and the Before Sunrise/Sunset/Midnight trilogy.
