Because nobody has started one here yet. I'm due a work upgrade soon and I'm seriously thinking about a 6s+. I feel a little dirty.
I dropped my iPhone 5 a couple of weeks ago and shattered the screen. Luckily it was upgrade time so I got myself an iPhone 6....and dropped it yesterday, smashing the screen. £80 to get it sorted by Apple. Vodafone quited me £250, robbing cunts. I'll wait until payday as I've spent like a moron this month.
£80 is pretty decent. I'd say a diy job wouldn't be any cheaper.
In 2 weeks I'll finally be getting rid of the piece of shit that is the Huawei P6, I cannot fucking wait.
I'll be going for a G4 and I'll be getting a 35% (IIRC) discount from O2 as my step-sister works there.
Really?
What should I go for then? It has to be an Android.
One of the S6's or the Xperia Z5. I was never an advocate for Samsung but the new phones are so nice and Touchwiz is really good now, big improvement over what was on previous versions. The Xperias are all great.
The G4 is nice enough but has too many flaws and isn't in the same range as the others. I gave mine to my sister and she returned it and went back to her Nexus 5.
I guess I'll go for the S6 then, but not the awful edge shit.
The S6 Edge Plus seems to be the European Note 5, which would be a good option in the range though. Take a read up on the Z5 also. Specs look amazing (especially on the Premium one) and as it is the Z3 beats most Android phones.
Worth a listen on the current smartphone climate.
http://theblerg.net/podcast/15
My G2 contract is ending in December and at first I thought I'd upgrade right away, but looking at the options I think I'll hold out for next year and Snapdragon 820.
Really? I thought 810 was pretty much confirmed. 820 would be an insta-buy then.
Still remains to be seen but you'd imagine Google will need something pretty noteworthy to get heads around the manufacturer. The more I'm hearing is that it'll be a spec beast, with a price tag to match while the LG will be more around the earlier 2015 flagship specs (sounding like a G4 internally with a smaller screen).
Yep, with 810 it's dead on arrival.
The new Android powered Blackberry becoming a bit clearer. The AC team have been hinting for a few weeks that it's going to be very good.
http://www.androidauthority.com/blac...atures-638396/
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJ6Yvp7-z3E
More leaks yesterday and the 6P looks like it will have the 810 in it after all.
No thanks then.
Don't ever go with Three Mobile, they're a bunch of cunts.
They're about the best here. Though I've only been involved with them as a PAYG customer personally.
Are they swallowing up O2 in the UK too?
http://cdn03.androidauthority.net/wp...hN-840x630.png
Official announcement on Tuesday.
New Chromecast coming out too. Looks interesting.
I'll be more interested to see what the changes will be in that than I will be in the phones on Tuesday. Still think an expesive Huawei with an 810 is going to be a hard sell. Marshmallow and the Doze feature will be interesting too, though God knows hen the OEM's will be getting that.
Still struggling with my Moto E 1st Gen. I have four apps on it: Facebook, Messenger, Indeed and Twitter. I have no photos or any media or anything at all. I have low storage alerts so much so that I can't even get my e-mails through. :D
Is the S6 too big? I currently have the S4 mini which is a nice size.
I bought this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pama-Charger.../dp/B00H3DJTY0
It's 2amp so charges pretty fast. I can do the wife's phone as well or the iPad.
Anything at all so long as it's around the 2A as Magic says. No point in buying a QuickCharge one as the G doesn't have it on the chip.
In fairness it isn't exactly a big battery either so it doesn't take that long to charge it. I bought because my initial G nor my 2nd Gen and now my E didn't come with the plug. Cheap pieces of shit.
How are you finding the 3rd gen G @AD?
I'm also on the look out for a new phone - my first gen Moto G was running slow as shit, and now looks like this:
http://s10.postimg.org/7k4vfx107/phone.png
Fuck knows what I'll get.
http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/moto...nstore-2289988
Probably worth having a look in Tesco - some stores have the Moto G 4G at £30.
My oneplus 2 came through the post today. All the instructions in chinese.......
Even if they were in English I doubt you'd be able to comprehend them.
Phones don't need instructions these days. The have a setup sequence at first swich on.
Apparently no OIS on either of the new Nexus phones. That's a prerequisite on anything these days :face:
My contract runs out in January and I'm torn between keeping my original phone (Nexus 5) and going sim only or getting a new one (the only one I really want is the new Sony Xperia Z5).
My phone has been a right pain to charge for a while, have to get the cable in just right. A quick google said if I put a paper clip inside the charging port and clean out any fluff and dust it'll sort it so I gave it a go. My phone would no longer charge. I felt like crying.
A second wiggle around inside it though and a bunch more dusk and fluff came out and now it's like new. No getting the able right, no holding it in place, just works.
:D
I've got a 5s at the minute but it's upgrade time and I'm unsure what to do. Should I have my pants pull down and get a 6s or go for a Galaxy S6?
Galaxy S6 all the way.
How (Sorry for this) invested (sorry!) in the iphone are you? For me, everyone I knew owns an iphone, we have multiple group chats and stuff and I've got a load of apps I've paid money for too. So I won't be moving away from the iphone anytime soon. Plus, they're bloody nice to use too.
Depends if you want an iPhone or an Android phone really. If you've had the 5S and were happy then I'd suggest sticking with Apple and certainly go for the 6S over the 6. If you were to go the high end of Android then take a look at the Xperia Z5 over the GS6, though the latter is a very good phone too.
Get an iPhone if you want the best phone. Samsung are shite.
Your phone is your most-used piece of technology. Why buy something sub-par?
You can't have used any of the S6 range then. An iPhone is only the best phone if you can stick iOS, though it's much improved over the last couple of iterations. A top end Sony still trumps the lot though, they just don't have/bother with the marketing any more.
I'd say S6 or the Z5 like Giggles said.
In terms of speed, OS features, developer priority, security patch availability and device security then iOS is clearly better. If that stuff's not important then sure, go pick up the latest gimmick-laden Samsung shitheap, sure.
The Sony phones are nice, as are the Google Nexus but they're still second-class devices.
Putting an Xperia Z5, or Z3 for that matter, in the same bracket as a Nexus shows exactly the angle you're coming from. For all the improvements iOS has made its still an operating system made for the target market that Apple know they have, and the phones are as gimmick laden as you claim a Samsung to be. We really don't need any of these latest features on either, but they're nice. I still think you've played around with an S4 and decided you know exactly what the S6 is like based on that experience anyway.
At the end of the day, the top end stuff from Apple, Sony, Samsung, and a couple of others are all great devices. People can just weigh up the pros and cons and decide what they need themselves. I certainly wouldn't rule out an iPhone myself when upgrade time comes, as they finally made one I think is worth considering when they made the 6, but if they want my money then they'll need to do more of substance with iOS 10.
The prospect of 'going shopping' in Rugby is pretty funny. Maybe if you like charity shops and, er, no just charity shops.
Black Phone 2 has just come out, a highly secure phone - https://silentcircle.com/
Silent Phone sets the standard for enterprise privacy by enabling private, encrypted communication. Available on iOS and Android.
That looks quite cool. Reminds me of the Turing Phone in regards to security.
http://turingphone.com
I got an invite to purchase (around $600) and they offer a service program to pay X amount a month to be able to upgrade when the next generation of phones come out. I'd be interested to see who will stock them in the UK.
Also, hark at Duke pushing the iPhone as the logical choice and anything else as 'gimmick-laden' shite. It's like a parallel universe.
I think Samsung did something to Raoul's family given how much he seems to hate them.
Downloaded the lollipop update when it came out on my Moto G. It's been proper fucking slow and wank ever since but I can't be arsed with the faff of rolling back to the previous version (kitkat?).
FUCK.
LOL. Did you not read about my grief with the G and lollipop? Sacked it in the end.
Marshmallow comes out soon.
New Nexus phones and Chromecast thingies coming soon. Looks nice.
Surprised and rather pleased they've included the 2013 Nexus 7 in the M update list.
Samsung S5 apparently has a better battery life than the new S6. Assume it's due to the processor demanding more despite the battery upgrade.
Why did you post that for the second time today, Quincy?
You're not a moderator on here Mahow, mate.
God damn iPhone 6S. I'm crumbling and thinking of just straight up buying one.
Anyone bought one?
I've also been considering a 6S but already having the 6 it just doesn't seem like much of an upgrade. The 3D Touch looks nice but that's about all I think I'd notice if I bought it. I think I'll pass this year.
If it's the phone you want and you can afford it then get it. As Raoul says, it's your most used device so get the one you want.
The specs for the new Nexus 5X and 6P. Not a fan of the builds but the 6P supposedly has the second best camera behind the S6 (not my words).
http://www.wired.com/2015/09/heres-s...n-nexus-5x-6p/
Seen that. Worth keeping an eye on to see. It's not great on paper, but the likes of Apple have shown that it's software as much as specs can make a good camera. If it's better than the G4 then happy days.
The Nexus 6P has surprised me. Probably not enough to not buy a Z5, but still.
Announcements starting to come from the manufacturers regarding Marshmallow. Sony seem to be going fairly far back which is nice.

PMSL. Yeah, when? Over the next 5 years and slowly but surely the older ones will disappear from that list. Android can get fucked imo. Even if they do get updated they'll only bother about fixing the fucking bugs on the newer models, leaving the older ones abandoned with dodgy OS. Cunts.
The likes of Sony, OnePlus, and Motorola won't matter as they both basically use a standard version of Android with a few extras on top so it'll be easily done. LG will just release the same thing as before within weeks and call it Marshmallow like they did with Lollipop when they've actually made no difference. Samsung will just fuck everyone about and wait until they have the Galaxy S7 in the shops before dropping the S5 from the list altogether. And HTC will do the best job of all and build it into Sense beautifully, but nobody will give a fuck because it's HTC.
The OEM updates are definitely more of a focus as time has went on though. Much more so than when the likes of Jellybean or KitKat arrived.
So? The Moto G's turned to fucking shit with 5.1 yet nobody clamoured to assist.
My Nexus 4, which I bought quite used from a friend a few months ago is fucked, I never dropped it from a big height but it fell once and part of the screen stopped working even though there are no cracks. The past month I haven't been able to switch apps (the square button isn't working xD) and I can't type the letters i, o, j, k without rotating the screen. A bit annoying. :D
I've been scouting some Danish used website for some deals and I'm getting a 1-year old Moto G for £40, not a bad deal for here. Does anyone have any experience with that phone, is it good?
Do NOT upgrade to the latest android on it. The phone is brilliant but that update absolutely rapes it.
Chore.
20 minutes of your life.
Agreed RL.
That should only be something to consider when the phone is a few years old and you want to eek it out a bit more.
Or if it's a pain in the hole because the software is ruining it.
Cyanogenmod isn't a performance improvement. It's a more regularly updated and fixed version of AOSP, that also happens to allow more customisation. It's to be treated with caution if your phone has specific special hardware in it as it will not account for that, but for something fairly standard then it will fix any issues.
Why should that be an issue for a newish phone though? It shouldn't therefore Android and the arsehole manufacturers can go fuck itself.
The only answer to that (shor of lobbying Google and Motorola) is buying a more expensive phone. Or buying an Apple phone where your only option is expensive. Or buying a Windo.... actually no lol.
I agree it's not really on though. Motorola falling into Lenovo hands doesn't really help with support either.
That's it. People are now starting to realise you can't buy a bag of shite and expect it to...well work. Phone makers are too, look at the new G and it's laughable price tag. Fuck 'em.
The seller of the phone said it's on 5.0.2 and I've asked him to make sure not to upgrade before shipping it. Thanks for the tip guys.
I'm so glad I found such a cheap solution, the other used phones of the same generation were all £70+ here ... the one I got has the owner's name engraved at the back but he put a cover in the deal for free which is quite generous.
Vim 5 is the revision that caused all the issues on the Moto G lol.
Lol okay, that's not good then. There's a way to go back to 4 right? :uhoh:
I thought the latest version was the problem ie 5.1.
You could root it and put Kit Kat back on 4.4.4 yeah. There's loads of guides because so many did it.
Okay. Well that's a pain but I guess that's what I get for impulse buying cheap used phones. :)
For 40 quid then it's worth the buy. If you're rooting and flashing then I'd go with CM12 (Cyanogenmod Lollipop) rather than Android 4.4. Both work fine and both are exactly the same amount of effort but CM is better (Lollipop as it should work).
Cool. I'm only getting it after the october holidays (next week here in DK is holiday) but I'll do that CM12 thing when I do get it.
My iPhone on 9.0.2 is really starting to fuck me off.
I had two weeks of the Cellular Data toggle switches not working. Now the spotlight search (that I always use) has just decided to stop working.
Whenever I go to an Apple Store they just tell me "go home and do a full restore". Bunch of cunts.
Its made my ipad2 quite slow as well.
Gonna try out Marshmallow on my Nexus 5. I've heard great things for other (better) devices so I'm hoping it works for mine.
Giggles, the Moto G (3rd Generation) or the Moto X Play?
Or, are there any other decent mid-range Android phones in play right now?
The X from those two. The first gen Nexus 6 is worth a look too if you can deal with the size. Definitely needs to be held before buying. The new Nexus 5X is nice too but you're only getting the 16GB for £50 more than the Moto ones.
Sony have committed to updates on the Z3's too, so the compact is worth a look in that price range also.
I've just moved from 4.4.4 to 5.1 on my Moto E. Fucking lol is all I can say. What a giant massive mistake, now it's not even any good as a phone because everything takes about 5 minutes to open.
Yeah that's a good point for Mahow too actually. Motorola have really gone to the dogs under Lenovo, get the Z3 Compact or the Nexus 6 (Motorola built, but Google look after the software).
The 3rd Gen is absolutely atrocious, two people in work have it and they fucking hate it.
I think I'll go for the Z3 compact then.
Just a shame that my step-sister left O2 last month and EE wont give out any more NHS family and friends discounts, clearly they hate the health professionals and/or their family.
Fucking hell now it doesn't send texts.
Didn't you update it a month ago or is this a different phone/another upgrade fuck up?
That was the 2nd Gen that was also a fucking disaster. I'll never ever touch another Motorola having experienced the 1st gen G + E and the 2nd gen G.
On the lookout for a phone for the missus. Interesting to hear about the Z3, Giggs. Was going to get her to just get an LG G3, how does it compare? You had one right? (or was it a G2 you had?)
Lollipop has been WAY better for me on my Moto G since the update yesterday.
I had a G2 which was an absolutely brilliant phone. Still have it, I try out custom ROMs on it from time to time and its great. I've a G4 as well which was wank and just gathers dust, though I use it occasionally for the camera.
The Mrs has a G3 and it's great. Bar the camera I'd have it over the G4, though I'd still just about go for the Z3 over it. Dat battery  The waterproofing and all that is nice to have too and the camera would be slightly better than the LG.
EDIT: The software can be a little ugly on LG phones too. Sony is a lot closer to plain Android which I like. Have a look on YouTube at some software videos to see which you like.
Cool, I've got a G3 and almost a little jealous of the Z3.
Z5 worth looking at?
One thing I will say is that the G3 is definitely a nicer looking phone than the Z3. When the two are sitting on the table here you can see how well LG did filling up most of the body with screen. The Z5 looks awesome altogether, there's a Z5 Premium on the way too that has a 4k screen and an extra 550mAh of battery in it too. I don't need it, but I'll convince myself that I do.
If you like the LG's, the new V10 might be worth a look too. Not tried one yet but by all accounts they've sorted the touchscreen and battery issues, and the little secondary display looks handy. You also get the manual camera controls from the G4 on video as well as photo. Has two front cameras for widescreen selfies if that's your bag too.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3g7IuuLqW9w
Decided on a Z5 compact.
£30 upfront and I get the phone with the exact same deal and price I was going to take the Z3 compact for.
Nice one, looks a class bit of kit.
Got my shitty budget Windows Phone to update to Windows 10
All it needs is a better Twitter + YouTube app and you're sorted.
I haven't noticed any slowdown and it might even be a bit faster through the menu's. It's a shame you can't edit the colour of individual tiles for the ones that are just a white logo. Why can't I make my Tinder icon orange instead of whatever my tile set is set to. I just want to be able to colour co-ordinate my tiles and then we're done.
Factory reset the piece of shit, cleared the partition cache and now I can send texts.
Got the most recent Samsung Galaxy for new workphone yesterday. I like having one Android and one iPhone (work / private in no particular order), so that means I need to replace my current private phone (a really old Samsung) with a new iPhone, since I'll lose my current workphone and it has lots of pictures and other stuff in it I want to transfer over to a new phone.
It pains me a bit, because I have a very strong appreciation for that old Samsung, as shit as it is (especially now).
I programmed some of my NFC stickers that arrived yesterday. So fucking handy.
HTC One A9 in the US - 32GB storage, 3GB RAM, $400.
HTC One A9 in the UK - 16GB storage, 2GB RAM, $725 (£470).
Tidy one HTC.
http://m.androidcentral.com/please-d...470-htc-one-a9
That's taking the fucking piss.
Didn't they do this before? Or was that Apple?
Is everything in the US ridiculously cheaper?
And why is the UK so expensive? Our wages aren't really any higher are they? This country's shite.
Hi fellas,
I have a Samsung S4 Mini, which i'm switching to a S6.
The problem is, I want to download all my photos onto my PC (Windows 8), but when i connect the USB cable to the PC it says it does not recognise the device. I've tried downloading the latest Samsung drivers, but still no joy. :(
Anyone else experienced this or know how to fix it?
Thanks.
On my Samsung tablet if I go to settings and storage, there is a 3 dot menu top right. Should be there.
If that is already on PTP, try enabling USB debugging:
Settings, About phone, software.
Keep tapping build number until you get a message saying you're a developer.
There will be a new menu above About Phone caller Developer Options.
Go in there and switch on USB debugging and plug in.
Need a new phone.
Was thinking about LG G4, the iphone 6s, xperia z5 premium, and the galaxy s6....any thoughts lads?
The Z5 is the latest release and the current best of the bunch imo tbh.
Alright I've just picked up the Moto G. What should I do in order to get it working?
Throw it in the bin.
I've been using it for a bit now and it's just as fast as my old Nexus 4 despite having 5.0.2. I dunno whether I should install that CM12 thing since it's working so well so far.
This new OnePlus X looks a fair bit of gear for $249. Hopefully the price will remain similar outside the US.

Got my S5. Have to say it's a lovely phone, phuck the haters. Though I'm led to believe Voda just released an update at the end of October that basically fixed every 5.0 issue. It's only taken them nearly a year. Phew. I reckon they'll just skip straight to 6.0.
The S5's alright. All of Samsung's pre-installed bollocks is annoying. I'm starting to get tempted to root mine as I feel like it's been running a bit slowly lately and freezing up a lot.
What did you put on it?
I put on one from here, this is the S4 thread, but you will be able to find the S5 thread somewhere.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gala...black-t3054478
I put Liquid Smooth on the S3. Its miles faster than my stock S5.
Resurrection Remix is pretty good, used it on my S2 as well.
If you've an S5, just remember it has a good camera so pick one that still has software to make use of the hardware instead of ending up with the shitty stock Android camera interface and image processing.
Not just crap, also a massive malware risk: http://www.theguardian.com/technolog...-security-bugs
Even the not rooted ROM there is a risk. Just like any other phone out there.
I have A/V running on mine that checks for Malware and all the other crap. I don't click on dodgy sites and install randoms apps not on the Google Play store, so I think i will be fine.
The Priv is finally out. Bit pricey at around £550 but it sounds like they've done a great job on it. Keyboard wouldn't interest me personally, but could be an option for some.

@Raoul Duke, my Dad got his iPhone 6 today and I was giving him a hand setting it up with his old apps, etc. Are there any settings I need to watch in iOS9.1 regarding cloud and stuff I need to set for security and so he doesn't get shafted for data?
EDIT: Also, easiest way to get the photos from the 4 to the 6? Is it done through icloud?
.
Just bought the OnePlus X for the missus. £200.
If it's as good as it's meant to be a second one could be on its way for me.
I haven't gone up to 9.1 yet because I was waiting for jailbreak and now I'm just being lazy but definitely look at turning the Wi-Fi assist off. Read a fair bit about that fucking people over.
http://9to5mac.com/2015/09/28/wi-fi-assist-mobile-data/
Cheers. I'll have a look at that.
Also, I just edited a bit into my original post. How do you get photos from the old 4 to the 6? Icloud doesn't look very clear in what it actually does but I'm assuming I can just cloud sync every photo some way on the old phone and they'll appear on the gallery on the new one the way Google Photos works on Android? Do I just need to activate backup for this on both devices?
I havent messed with iCloud so on that Raoul should be able to tell you more but backing up the old phone and restoring it on the new one should get the photos/contacts and all that over.
Well I've waited hours for the iPhone 4 to upload to icloud and not a thing showing on the 6. It really seems such a convoluted mess but it has to be easier than it seems.
Every help topic I've googled has mentioned connecting to a PC, but surely in this day and age you don't need to do that to sync photos across devices.
I think the simplest way would be to sync the iPhone 4 with a computer and then restore the iPhone 6 from that back-up. I'm pretty sure mine just synched across without any hassle. Just sign-in to the new device with his existing iCloud account and it should fetch them. After that it can just be updated via wi-fi.
The only thing that's worth keeping an eye on is Data Roaming, so it doesn't shaft him when he's overseas. Maybe that wi-fi assist thing as well, although I've never seen it work.
You should set-up Touch ID with the fingerprint sensor. It's ace.
Data Roaming is getting capped if people haven't yet caught up with the news from April next year, and utterly abolished from 2017 in the EU (which is about fooking time).
Use iTunes.
The fingerprint sensor is awesome, works flawlessly and is more secure than a password. Why would you turn it off?
He never had a pin on it so when the first message came up on the lock screen and he couldn't swipe to reply without having to put his thumb on the home button he got rid. Left it on for app purchases though.
Still might talk him into it though, doesn't realise that this will get robbed a whole lot quicker than a 4 would.
Actually, speaking of locks, I was through the settings looking for smart unlock (probably called something different) and couldn't find anything. Are they possible if he did activate the scanner or pin?
What's 'Smart unlock'?
With Touch ID you can just press the home button and it'll unlock straight away. It's really quick.
Like if you have it locked with pin or fingerprint you could set the phone to not be locked if it was connected to certain devices like a car or watch, or in a certain location, and then lock again once disconnected.
It's shown below on my own phone, thought I'd read somewhere it had been introduced with iOS9, though I may have mistaken that and could be 6S only.

£190 for an unlocked G3? Oh hai!
Seen you say this a couple of times, what's wrong with the G4? People elsewhere seem pretty positive about it.
Looking for a new phone in the 300 quid range, so I'm probably looking between that, the Nexus 5X, OnePlus 2 or the S6 for a little more.
I'll probably wait until 'Black Friday' to see if anything interesting comes up.
Would you get an S6 for that money? Beware of the battery on those too. Fast to charge but very poor capacity so base it on how much you'll be away from a charging point.
On the G4; the battery life is terrible due to the fact that they just don't optimise things in any way. It's good that you can change out the battery but you'll need to factory reset once a fortnight for it not to be horrendous. It's also awful plastic compared to some of the nice new top end phones out there (more disappointing when you see the quality that went into their V10). And LG's version of Android is just plain shit. No effort made there whatsoever.
The S6 is 340 on Amazon which seems decent. And I'm moving from an old Moto G which ends up lasting about 4 hours now so I'm sure the battery life won't be too much of an issue anyway.
Turned out my iPhone 6 was out of action for months as there was lint in the receiver. I feel so dumb having used a shitty Windows phone all this time instead.
I took the plunge and bought a one plus x to replace my Samsung s4 mini. Fingers crossed it's decent.
I've been looking at that fucker as well. Thought the technical spec was a bit low-end but for that price who cares.
On that software it'll run sweet enough. If you haven't bought yet though, take a quick look at the Wileyfox Storm too.
I'll report back once it arrives from Shenzen.
In the end I ignored the advice of the thread and got the vodafone smart ultra 6. I think it is like the moto G before it went bollocks, i.e. cheap but good. I only use it for calls, texts, facebook, general browsing and spotify so spending anything more than about £150 was beyond pointless. Got a decent sim-only deal through the carphone warehouse's own ID network, 15 quid for pretty much unlimited calls and texts + 5gb data.
The Mrs who breaks everything she touches(I really should have known better) has just dropped her iPhone 6 for the millionth time. This being the time that the screen cracked. How much am I going to be out of pocket if I send this to be fixed?
I don't know how much is charged for these things but they're not mad hard to change if you can get a screen at a good price. Between £50 and £60 on Amazon but might get cheaper elsewhere.
Cheers. I'm having a look into it now. If it's about £80 as it was the last time she broke her iPhone 4, then I'd probably pay out the extra to have it covered more.
The new phone is here but no nano sim so I'm waiting out on that before I can give it a real whizz. First impressions are it's pretty slick and not too massive
Yeah definitely worth it getting it replaced at that price. I remember when my Dad got his iPhone 6 and they asked him about insurance in the Vodafone shop they told him that it would be €250 to get the screen replaced by Apple if he didn't have the cover, though things like that tend to be extortionate here and I'd imagine it's much more reasonable your end.
Ee are sending me one in the post so I'm happy to stick with using this phone as an internet only device for a few days.
I got the exact same spiel from Vodafone here. They told me it would be well in excess of £150 per screen break, but their cover would take that down to about £50.
Having looked on Apples site. They charge £86. Seems quite reasonable for them.
Is that the one with the curved edge screen?
I couldn't see much on their .ie website apart from a link to but Applecare+, but from a search about there's some independent places doing it from €130 with a guarantee. I'd have the screen from Amazon delivered for €85 and have it changed in an hour so it would all come down to the length of warranty on offer.
Hopefully he doesn't drop it anyway!
Can somebody with an iPhone open the YouTube app and see if they can view their subscriptions...
The new design released in the last few days means I can't actually view any of my subscribed channels....anyone else?
Sorted, I somehow managed to swap accounts without knowing it.
Initial impressions of the one plus x - the back camera is blurred and is unusable and it doesn't accept my SD card. The latter probably means a reformat but the former is a pain in the cunt.
Could be faulty as I've heard decent reports of the camera. Not high end but meant to be very good for the phone price.
This might sound woefully obvious but you haven't left the plastic on the lens have you? I've done that once before myself, was a week before I realised.
Ha, what a fucking simpleton. I thought I had checked as well and I just missed the massive fucking sticker.
:D
Kiko. :D
Best app to transfer my contacts to another phone? New phone has external memory and uses a nano sim, whereas my current phone doesn't.
What are you going from/to?
If you're doing Android to Android and the contacts are linked to your gmail/Google account then when you sign into the new phone they'll sync to it. If they're not linked to your Google account and just stored on the phone then you'll find an export or copy option in your settings where you can copy them to your Google account so you can do the above. Means you'll always have a backup of them on contacts.google.com too.
If you're going from iPhone to Android then go to icloud on a PC, select all the contacts and export to a vcf file. Then plug the Android phone into the PC, copy the vcf to the phone, and import it in the contacts app settings.
.
S4 to OnePlus 2
Remember to take the sticker off the camera.
Not sure of the menu structure on the Samsung @Jeet but if you go into your contacts and then settings you'll see something like manage contacts there and you want a screen kind of like this (3rd option down)

EDIT: I'd say something like the Merge with Google option on this screenshot:

the Oneplus X, having given it a good run over for the last 2 weeks, is absolutely great. I mean I can't find fault with it. Nice handset, good weight, great screen, and no issues of any variety - even auto updating and all that jazz.
£200, ridiculous level of bargainhood.
Did you have any SD issues?
Right calm down mate, you're a retard, we get it.
Nothing in the slightest. She ripped her bits off the SD as previous experience saw them formatted automatically by Sony phones, but this one just went on and let everything carry on as normal.
Usual restrictions in terms of not being able to actually put apps on it though (quelle surprise).
Are you sure you've put your SD card in the phone, Kiko?
Kiko's SD card probably still looks like this:
http://g02.a.alicdn.com/kf/HTB1gXkSH...ont-font-b.jpg
Alright dick heads, we've all had a laugh. I've put it in normal its just not reading it.
There's been a good bit of talk about card formats and formatting problems with this phone that they're promising to fix with an update.
Try downloading ES File Explorer to see if that can see it. If it can, but you still can't transfer to it, then at least you know it's software and not the slot that is faulty.

Sweet I'll check this out. Thanks
Thanks gigs.
Battery has lasted all day with normal use with no charge. This is a novelty.
It's not a big capacity battery, but the 801 Was always a decent chip for power use and the software is pretty lean so it doesn't really need it. Doze will help even further when 6.0 arrives. I'm running it on the Z3 and Doze is better than Sony Stamina Mode ever was.
Anyone use the Galaxy S6? I was going to get the 32Gb as there was no upfront payment but for BLACK FRIDAY the 128Gb model is the same price. Ordered the gold one because I'm a ponce.
OnePlus just opened their doors to all for a few days. £289 for the OnePlus2 with 64GB capacity.
The X is invite free for the same period too.
http://www.joe.ie/tech/your-favourit...-iphone/521690
I'd heard rumblings of this before. Buying Beats is making a lot more sense now if this goes ahead.
It's not much to do with Beats really: their headphones are garbage. Dropping the 3.5mm jack has been on the cards for a while - but the pursuit of thinness above all else is a bit pointless. Eventually it'll all go wireless, charging and all and they can make a totally sealed phone which will be waterproof.
If they lose the jack, replace it with more battery capacity and keep the same form factor I'd be happy with it. The camera will still poke out as that can't be miniaturised by much more right now.
I use them a lot and I'd be a little annoyed, but it's probably one of those things like dropping the CD drive on MacBooks which are at the edge of the game.
3rd parties are able to make Lightning stuff, so it shouldn't mean competitor lockout.
The new patch has solved the SD issue. Happy days.
I've not noticed it but can't say I've had to try it.
Just got a notification that the G4 is ready to update to Marshmallow. Hopefully it's as good as the version on the Z3.
.....
Don't :moop:, you've got an absolute beast.
.....
.....
Strange one that. Same notification repeating? Only time I've seen that happen is with Viber or Whatsapp so I presume it's one of those it's happening with. I've never found or heard of any way to stop it happening though.
If it's sms there may be a setting in your notifications settings for a repeat that may have been inadvertently switched on. Did anything happen previously to this like an OS update or anything?
.....
My dad wants a new phone for Christmas so I'm looking for a proper budget smartphone. Like 50-60 quid. What's best at that price range? One of the Microsoft/Nokia Lumias?
He barely knows what apps are so being able to run lots of them doesn't matter much. Ease of use and decent battery life is probably most important.
So, my G2 went into the ground today, and since I've paid for it fully now I think I'll just replace it with a G4. It seems to be an alright phone, and even if the G5 is right around the corner I can't really wait.
Worth a look for anyone thinking of buying. It's all subjective but he's normally fairly on the ball.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBuVR8_Mybw
Yeah, it got here a week ago. The V10 hasn't released in Sweden yet, and I got a good deal on the G4 so I'm basically paying the same now monthly as I was before for the G2.
It's a great phone, but I'm still trying to get used to some of the quirks. The main one being that the leather has the stitching going right along the middle of the back, which makes it wobble when it's on flat surfaces... :moop:
Has the 6.0 update reached you yet? Makes such a difference. I was going to buy a 6P but it's made me hold on now for the G5.
There is normally a plastic back in the box too, though it still rocks a bit. I've 5 backs gathered up now but the best I've found is the plastic with a skin on it.
Yeah, I got 6.0 installed immediately. It seems like a decent upgrade, some really useful stuff in there.
I got back from work the other day to the Mrs telling me her phone had died. She says it was really hot, as in uncomfortable to hold hot, for quite a while and unresponsive. She says she left it to cool down and tried it afterwords. Well now it wont turn on, charge or do anything.
Took it back to Carphone Warehouse as it's a hardware issue and is still within 12 months of purchase. Guy there tells me because of the cracks, the warranty is void and Apple would charge full whack, to essentially write the phone off and supply a refurb/new one. Looking at £200+
Am I just fucked in this situation or is there a way I can get out of this for cheaper?
You could put on a pair of trousers and make her pay for it.
Check your house insurance policy.
Or put on a pair of trousers and tell her to get to fuck.
I don't have any insurance. More fool me I guess.
Best suggestion I've heard is take some out with someone, wait a few weeks and then put a claim in.
Seriously, why are you forking out for her? Is she unemployed or something?
Well if she gets a job we have to put the kids into nursery, which costs so much that she might as well not work.
Ah the old living outwith your means scenario. I pity thou.
:uhoh:
Get a $50 phone and be done with it.
Due for a new phone. Think I'm going to switch from O2 to EE.
What's a decent model to go? I'm not going for the top tier price-wise. I saw what looked like a good deal on an iPhone 5s, nothing up front and £30 a month with unlimited calls/texts and 1GB data (plenty for me). What are the best Android phones in a similar price range?
Buy a one plus. It's great and the battery life makes it worthwhile.
Is that massive?
I was looking at the Xperia Z5 Compact. I'd prefer something that sort of size. I'm not all that impressed with HTC having had an M8 mini for a while. It started off fine but has been incredibly slow for the past year.
EDIT: Hang on, I thought One Plus was HTC but it isn't, is it?
I went with the 6S in the end because EE were throwing about some decent data packages for sub-£50 a month, and honestly it's easier being able to interface directly with my iTunes library rather than fuck about moving select stuff over all the time.
I'd steer clear of at least the compact versions of the Xperia, for the Z3 they seemed to cheap out a little on the build so they were cracking for a whole host of people.
The OnePlus 2 sounds very impressive but it definitely looks phablet sized. Not sure I can be arsed with carrying something like that around all the time, and sadly the X sounds like it's nowhere near as good.
I fucking hated the 5c and the 5s.
Spent half my time sticking the bloody thing in airplane mode and out again to fix my data. Also after sticking a couple of apps on it the OS would freeze quite regularly and the swipe shortcuts would constantly be fucked. Was not a one off, as I had three different handsets from work. Spent most of my time swearing and the little piece of shit. The 6s looks good though.
I'm still rocking my G3, it's such a beast. Sister has picked up the Z5 compact, she's happy with it. I wouldn't be put off by the size of the larger phones Toby. Before I bought my G3 I had always had smaller handsets and the thought of using and carrying one of the beasts just sounded stupid to me. I went with the G3 as it seemed great anyway, and it took me about a day to decide the G3 is actually the perfect size, any bigger and it'd be a cunt to use and now using smaller phones just pisses me off. I'd also be disappointed by the lack of a full HD screen on the likes of the Sony compacts, after experiencing the glory of the G3 screen.
OnePlus X Tobes, not the 2.
https://oneplus.net/uk/oneplus-x
If you're getting an iPhone, are can they do you a deal on at least a 6.
Is the Two good if I get over the size thing? It sounds like a beast in every other respect.
I wouldn't have it because it doesn't have NFC but that's not a big deal for most people. In every other way it's very good.
Nexus 5X is worth a look too as it's on reduction direct from Google. It doesn't feel as nice as the OP2 but the camera is better in the 5X and it has an infinitely better fingerprint scanner.
I've no use for fingerprint scanners or NFC. The Nexus and OP2 are closer on cost than I thought they might be so I may go for the former. Think I'll hang on until I'm down in Edinburgh later in the month so that I can go into the EE store to see if they can do any better deal than what's available on their website.
I haven't suffered any issues with my oneplus x. It works perfectly well doing any function and once you work out that there is a sticker over the camera, you're left with a cracking phone. Only negative is the size, it's a little clunky.
I'm thinking wrong too on the Oxygen OS thing too. It's Cyanogen that can get a bit weird.
http://www.theguardian.com/money/201...d-party-repair
Surely must be a mistake/overreaction as it couldn't be legal.
If anyone has an iPhone 6 onwards that has had its screen repaired by a 3rd party. Don't update to iOS9.
There is software in it that will detect the change of the home button and it will brick your phone.
EDIT: Beaten by seconds.
Whatever about the 3rd party repairs, which is bad enough, but killing the phone under update if you have a damaged fingerprints sensor that you haven't got repaired would really be pulling the piss.
Sounds like its all home button related from what I read so as long as none of that was changed it should be good
It's quite the pisstake. Though this could explain the Mrs phone bricking itself last week.
IPhone is fucked so currently have the s6. Am I being dense - probably - but shouldn't I have 4g on this s6 if I transfer the sim?
Does the S6 have a nano sim, or are they iPhone only?
Not sure about the actual question, Waff, but that was my initial thought.
Error 53 is no longer a thing apparently
http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-35611756
Double posts, however....
Feels like I'd need to spend a shit load to untap the full potential of the G5. Most of the cool features are related to the extras. The phone itself still doesn't make me think I need to upgrade my G3, just as the G4 didn't.
So my S5 was broken for a while in terms of call quality (horrible echo for the other end of the connection, shite audio through bluetooth etc) so it went in for repair and Samsung invalidated the warranty because it had a hairline crack at the bottom of the phone. LOL.
Now I'm getting a Samsung J5, which looks like an absolute pile of turd. Fuck my life.
I can't get my computer to recognise my phone (S5) to put some stuff onto it.
The photos don't even do the S7 Edge justice
Definite purchase.
J5 not a bad phone, actually. 5.1.1 too. 8GB storage though.
When you say the shitness of the 6, what kind of things do you mean?
Tiny battery and no SD slot mainly. Though once I've a 32GB phone and cloud storage I'm fairly set so the latter is less of an issue. The little curve on the back as opposed to the flat on the 6 makes a much bigger difference than I thought it would too.
EDIT: In fairness, shitness was the wrong word as the GS6 is lovely, but they've definitely improved on its weaker points. The screen size in the new Edge is perfect for me too. Same size as the G4.
Yeah the battery is the only negative I've had with it so far, getting the 128Gb version on offer was the clincher as it completely negated the lack of expansion.
How does it hold up in real life? I believe it lasts better than it's mAh suggests but is still hard to push a day out of it.
Have you had the 6.0 update on yours yet? I hadn't seen the Touchwiz version of it until the S7 and it's as much of an improvement looks-wise as the 5.1 version was last time round.
I normally get at least a day and a half, but I tend to switch everything off if I'm not using it so I never have data left on or anything like that. The Xperia really had it beat with battery life, but I can live with that. Still on 5.1.1, apparently the upgrade is due any day now.
Anyone able to recommend a good docking station for an iPhone 5? All it needs to do is stand the phone up properly and charge it, nothing fancy.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-Appro...iphone+5+stand
I have the version of that where you can connect headphones to it too.
The Belkin stuff tends to be good quality too.
The S7 is :chief:
One day they'll get a half decent OS and it'll be worthwhile.
I don't mind it, apart from the menus which look like the children's version of the Xperia equivalent.
Marshmallow isn't bad at all on it, fairly toned down. That said, Nova went on it after an hour like it does on every phone.
The main thing for me with M over L is that they've finally got rid of the luminous green and blue colour scheme for the notification bar and menus. The white is much more reserved now. It's still a massive pain in the bollocks that you can't move the app drawer button though and the app drawer itself was thought up by someone on crack, though Nova sorts those two perfectly.
I only got my own one yesterday so I still need to go through still and get rid of all the Samsung shit I don't need, though that's fairly whittled back in this version too. Browser, S-Health, S-Voice, S-Planner, and Messages and I'll be good to go.
Think my iPhone 4S has finally give up the ghost. Was working okay this morning until about 8:30AM but the screen wouldn't come on since, although it would still ring and make a noise if I got a text. Just plugged it into my computer now and iTunes has said it's in recovery mode and needs updating. There goes my jailbreak; so bye-bye TomTom.
Can't you update it and jailbreak it again?
The latest iOS hasn't had a jailbreak released for it, and Apple made it so you can't put older versions of iOS on. :thbdn:
Shouldn't be long before iOS 9.3 comes out, complete with a jailbreak, but for the time being I've gotta rely on the absolutely diabolically shit in-car sat-nav system.
Hahaha same, actually. Served me well for many years though, can't fault it, even if the back is cracked to hell from multiple drops. Front is fine though, at least when the screen comes on.
My mum's just got a new phone, so gave my dad her old one, meaning his 4S is going spare if mine does die. His was white though. :gay:
Google says a new jailbreak came out today, but it's only compatible with the 5S/C onwards. Could be the end of 4S jailbreak.
edit..
http://www.littlemonstersforum.co.uk...q/1ikvxpy9.png
But Baz, if your phone has broken how on earth will the past ring you?
This thing is definitely beasting it on the battery front so far.
That's quite impressive. The battery is the reason I went 6+ instead of just the 6.
Does it still charge up crazily fast?
Upgrading to Marshmallow has improved the battery life on my S6 quite drastically, this Doze thing does wonders.
It all does seem that little bit more sleek and clean. The only downside was it going haywire with the images in the music player so I had to clear that and download everything again, but worth it for the battery boost.
This thing really is a monster for battery. My last phone used to be pushed to hit 4.5 hours.
http://i65.tinypic.com/30ws4yx.png
Is the standard S7 anywhere close to that?
I have the 6+ and I'd like to go a little smaller next time. A UHD screen and better camera also appeal to me.
I've seen reviews say the S7 hits around 5 hours (thought the same ones say the Edge hits 6), so I'd say it'd be a big improvement. We definitely seem to have got the good end of the battery life this side of the Atlantic.
The camera is really good too. Finally iPhone fast and the focus speed is brilliant.
Seeing as we don't have a tablet I'm going to ask here.
What's the best Android tablet around at the moment? I've just fucked my Tab S by dropping it on the bathroom floor which has obliterated the screen.
http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/goog...google-2411910
Was eyeing the Pixel C (with a keyboard because I hate typing on a tablet) and that has just secured it.
Edit: Well, if they ever fucking send me a code.
That's a brilliant deal, I might use some UK cards/forwarding to see can I get on that too. I had one for a couple of weeks and have been wanting to buy one.
EDIT: Though it looks like that might come with Android N on it because of the Developer thing.
That said, it's due the second developer release soon and the first was fairly stable so I'd say it'll be very useable until the actual release.
Didn't realise Google had a new tablet out. Is the Nexus not dropping in price?
Oh, is it? I always thought they looked pretty swish.
Dunno why I'm asking though, I really have no need for a tablet.
I know two people with them and they don't seem to be put together that well, certainly not like a regular HTC. Software-wise they're spot on
The only one I'd swap my Tab S for is the Pixel C, but I'm not really sure I need a tablet either because Remix OS covers what I need. I just want one, and N looks like it'll be as handy as Remix.
Code is in
First impressions are great, it's a serious piece of kit but I just wish they had included a micro SD slot.
What you guys talking about?
Ah, got it.
I know :D I've bit the bullet now anyway. I like having a Google device around me for updates etc, since I switched away from Nexus phones.
The Surface Pro is an absolute beast. I only really need windows for work though and I've just talked them into upgrading me to SSD for my laptop so should be grand there. It's just clunky for manuals on the job so the little 7“ is handy.
A USB-C memory stick should sort the expandable storage thing too.
There's some really (physically) small ones out now.
I was to buy this one this morning when I was buying a screen protector but I'd say the 64GB internal will do fine for me. My Tab S is 16GB with a 16GB card and I've never needed to up the card.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00U2T38GW
It's on the way
I bought a Samsung S7 Edge the other week. Loving it so far. The screen is awesome and perfect in size. Feels much more responsive than my HTC One M8 ever was, too.
I had toyed with both but really glad I went for the Edge too. Wouldn't really want anything smaller, though the phone itself doesn't seem too big. Screen is amazing.
How are you finding the camera (or do you use it much)? I'm not really one for photos apart from a couple for work, but in the few goes I've had I don't think it's quite up to the V10 or G4 for that matter.
I've only really used it for a couple of test photos so far, and it's alright. A million miles better than what I had. The examples I saw online before I bought it seemed top notch, though.
I actually wanted to buy the Folio keyboard with the tablet but I accidentally ordered the normal one and I'm glad that I did.
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QytYs1Ex7d...XKIbjEAjmg.gif
Magnets
It's such an awesome piece of kit.
Need to order myself the keyboard too. Didn't know which to go for so I'll grad that one based on your experience.
The magnet looks good, what's it like as a keyboard? Buttons, etc.
Just upgraded the wife's contract from 250m, 5000txt, 500mb to 500m, 5000txt, 1.5gb. £7.50 to £10.
I despise mouse pads anyway and it takes a Bluetooth one so I won't mind that.
@SvN Did you try the Good Lock interface on the S7 at all? Once you change the colours (why pink?) it's actually pretty dece(nt).
I've seen some complaints online (dropping connection is the biggest) but I've had none thus far. I think it's a really solid keyboard for a tablet and I'm glad I bought it.
Anyone in here got the LG G5?
Need a new phone. Also, even the biggest touch screen keypads are no match for my fat as fuck thumbs. Any half-decent smart phones with a physical qwerty pad like the blackberries? Are BLACKBERRIES themselves any good? I seem to remember they were a bit shit.
I don't think anyone makes phones with physical keyboards any more.
You could get this?
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/official-...fOAaAkav8P8HAQ
Pretty nifty idea.
The Priv is the latest one and is their first Android offering. Very good by all accounts (best one you'll get with a keyboard anyway and specs similar to the LG G4) though I've never tried one myself.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-jYDRd_53w
cheers bruv
I find it hard to believe that you have bigger thumbs than me, stop being such a flange.
The LG camera always seems to be the best, in my opinion. I'm not all too fussed on it being modular though I imagine it's a nice gimmick to show off. If they stop the battery coming off with the chin and so you can hot swap without having to switch your phone off/on every time, it might come across better.
It's coming to the point of me being able to use O2s refresh and get myself a new handset. Torn between the S7/edge and the G5. The latter is just as good in most areas but comes without the big price tag. But if the build quality is a little iffy that would sway it.
The one I used had a bigger gap at one side than the other where the chin met the body. I didn't see the antenna lumps near the camera but they've supposedly been rife too.
I'd put the camera over the S7 (personally I still think the G4 camera is better than the S7 too) and I prefer the idea of fingerprint scanner on the back even though it was a bit loose feeling, but the Samsung is better in every other way I'd say. I thought the screen was great (it is) until I looked at the S7 Edge again.
I just played with the S7 edge in a store and the screen looked all kinds of better than my 6+.
Much improved since the last Samsung I had(S4).
The S6 was the first one I'd touch and the S7 has basically just improved on it in nearly every way. Maybe not the camera, though the latter one is regarded as better overall. Personally I'm not a fan of this less/larger pixel thing a lot are doing now as I don't take many low light photos.
If you hadn't already seen them. Shortcuts:
https://support.google.com/pixel/answer/6326992?hl=en
New phone shopping is a go. I've currently got the iPhone 6+ with O2, I pay £45 a month after my O2 open discount is applied and get Unlimited calls/texts and 5GB of data.
According to the O2 app I use on average about 840mb per month so anything 2GB and above is enough. One of the in-laws brought over a new Galaxy S7(not the edge) today and it felt weird. Even though it's a reasonable size it felt almost like a toy after having the 6+.
I think I'd have to go for the edge. So that leaves me realistically with the S7 edge or the LG G5.
On O2 Unlimited mins and texts with 3GB data is £41.50 a month, no upfront cost(£99 upfront if you drop it down to £36.50 p/m) on the G5. Same plan with the S7 edge is £51.50 with £10 upfront(£60 upfront for £46.50 available).
It does look like I wont be able to get the open discount again. They've started cracking down on it due to the amount of people like me who just knew someone who could get a code. I wouldn't really want to pay more than what I do now, so I may have to look at leaving O2.
I think I'm going to keep my G3 until I die. It's still amazing.
Best phone I've ever had.
Why are you trying to upgrade from a phone that's still within its one year 'new' cycle? If anything I'd wait for the iPhone 7 (+), which should be here in September.
If anyone is after a budget phone I'd look no further than the J7. The J5 I have is incredible for the price.
The reason I'm looking at upgrading is the Mrs has been without a phone for a fair bit. Idea is I'd upgrade and she'd get the 6+ I have.
Because there's essentially no difference in price and the Androids have QHD screens these days.
By all accounts it's very good, only letting down a bit on camera. I really don't like the look of it myself. If you're going Android then I'd be looking at he S7 Edge or the Nexus 6P though there's apparently a refresh of the latter on the way already with a processor and RAM upgrade.
One word of warning though, if you don't like a case or cover on a phone steer clear of the Samsung. It feels lovely but that screen is ripe for the smashing. First phone I've ever insured or put a cover on.
Spending forty odd quid a month on a phone seems ridiculous.
Depends what you're getting for it. I always preferred to buy the phone outright so I could get a good tarriff without getting a phone from the operator, though these days I get the phone and the bill paid from work and they let me sell it.
I have kids, so insurance on everything!
As for paying £40 odd a month for a phone. I don't mind so long as that includes the insurance. I've learnt my lesson that. Especially as Samsung seem to want to put glass on glass with their new devices. I've only ever dropped my current phone once after the headphone cord snagged on something, but the Samsungs looks slippery as hell.
I got one of the clear Spigen Crystal cases but I've been meaning to buy a skin so I can get rid of it.
I ended up in the O2 shop yesterday and came out with the G5. The woman in the shop sold me by reminding me the specs of both phones are essentially the same so if unsure to go for the cheaper one.
Now I've got home I'm not so sure on it. It doesn't exactly feel great in the hand. The screen even on full brightness seems nowhere close to the S7 and is a difficult to see on a bright day like today. The chin of it is plastic, which is a little disappointing. I've already opened the camera several times just trying to alter the volume(the camera shortcut on the G5 is a double press of the volume down button). Speaking of the camera, it takes beautiful pictures when it focuses. Unfortunately it seems very jittery until then. Taking photos of anything moving is essentially a no go.
The most concerning thing for me has been the battery though. I left for work at 5:30 this morning at 100% and a 10 minute call on my break aside, it wasn't touched until I got home. By the time I went back on it at 3 it was down to 78%. I'm hoping this is due to it trying to install things but if not then that's a bit crap.
They did say I had 14 days to change my mind...
LG batteries are generally poor but are always terrible for the first 2 days or so, so you should see improvement.
I'd still swap it for an S7 though.
I'm very tempted. I'm going to see how it gets on tomorrow with a full actual days use.
Further thoughts on the G5.
The camera is bloody gorgeous. This is the first phone where I've noticed facebook compressing the image. I uploaded a picture the other day that looks stunning on the phone but has definitely suffered by the time it was uploaded. I've got used to the power button placement now and it makes you wonder why all phones don't have it there, but then you lay it on a desk and find out.
The display definitely doesn't seem that bright. I keep it at about 60% indoors but it has to be at close to 100% outside, especially if sunny. No chance of seeing anything otherwise. This brings me to the bad mark against the phone. Battery life is still shit. When I unplugged to leave for work today it was on about 90%. Despite only having 45 mins of screen on time I now sit at 64%. I've made sure that's not including any background downloads either. Expanding that out that looks like it's 25% for 45 mins of battery. This would only give 3 hours of screen time which really isn't great at all.
One thing I will say in its defence is that it was in my locker which has very limited signal. If it were constantly searching then I could understand some of that battery drain.
I've got used to the feel in the hand. Coming from a smooth 6+ it felt very sharp but it's okay now. The plastic chin does take something away quality wise too. I do wish they hadn't coated the metal of the main body though as it feels a little odd. I've noticed it also gets very warm during games or multiple downloads. Does the S7 do this @Giggles ?
Right now I'm leaning towards going in and asking to swap to the S7 edge. It has almost the exact same internals, a bigger battery and from what I can tell a better screen. If the G5 didnt have such a good camera it would already be a done deal.
LG's are notorious for horrible battery if you don't have a good signal, though it's always worth uninstalling updates to Play Services and letting it re-update too as that definitely helped battery life on my G2 and G4. I always liked the rear button placement on LG's personally but it's a bit of a pain when you're using a fingerprint scanner if it's back there too. The Samsung placement, for all I dislike about physical and capacative buttons on the front, works much better.
As for the S7, the only time I've noticed my Edge getting hot is if I'm navigating at the same time as it's wirelessly charging but it's never been enough to make it reboot or slow down though. The screen is the best I've seen on anything and looks good at any angle or in any light on auto. The battery is great. It's regressed a little as the last software update upgraded some of the Knox stuff which uses a bit more but it just means I'm down to 5.5 hours screen time instead of 7 without turning anything off to scrimp on it (GPS on high, screen on auto, bluetooth always on, etc).
I've played with the camera more lately and have found it easily up with the G4 (the main camera in the G5 is the same one as the G4) though the wide angle stuff with the G5 is brilliant (you can do it with the Samsung with their lens case but fuck that for a faff). The focus speed on the S7 is unlike anything I've seen on a phone camera too. I can stick up some photos if you want a look. Touchwiz finally looks and works well too and I don't even use a 3rd party launcher any more and the optional Good Lock interface is getting better all the time with monthy updates.
If I had the choice then I'd be taking the Samsung out of those two as the only area the G5 is better is the camera and that's only marginal because of the extra wide lens on the back. The only other reason would be the modules or being able to swap the battery but they look a bit crap at this stage.
@Gray Fox, some S7 photos (imgur, so probably huge).
Toggle Spoiler
Right then. I think I'm sold. I'm on lates this week so it's a case of keeping the phone safe until then.
Might be worth a look too as some camera elements may suit what you want more than others.
(Try to ignore the tossers tie).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDm_o26n8ww
That seemed very one sided there. That said, the S7 being on a bigger aperture and having the bigger pixel thing going on should dominate the G5 in dimmer light.
Going to visit the Mrs in hospital today swung it for me. It's about a 75 minute journey on a couple of buses. From leaving on 100% to getting to her I went down to 76% with only listening to music on soundcloud and the occasional reply to a text.
I appreciate that it charges rapidly but that is way too much used and a deal breaker. I don't want to be carrying a charger or battery bank with me 24/7. I managed to get into the O2 store just about 10 past 5 and asked if I could swap it as I'm within the 14 day period. Woman went ahead and cancelled the current deal and took my G5 back but then told me because it's so close to closing time, the new 'sale' wont go through and it'll automatically be set to hold for 24 hours.
I'm assuming what's really going on is them checking the phone over and making sure I haven't broken it, but it would have been nice to know this before hand as now I've no phone. If I do have to wait the full 24 hours it'll be a tight squeeze for tomorrow too.
That's a bit of a pisser. I didn't even know O2 existed anywhere any more either. The best option with the LG, for least bulk, is to carry the extra battery but you don't really want to be doing that either. I'm still not convinced that the 'chin' won't eventually wear if it's removed and replaced a lot.
Which Samsung is it again? The regular S7 you said was it? One thing I'd say is definitely get a case for it. I hate them but the glass back scares the bejesus out of me.
S7 Edge I'll be going for. Going from 2800mAh to 3600mAh of battery should be really noticable.
I'll be looking to put a skin on it. I really hate cases.
I did the same as I like to use it without a case unless I'm in work. Got a class white carbon fibre one from dbrand.
If you're putting a screen protector on it then take a look at Screen Knight. It was the fourth one I tried and the best by far as you put it on wet, so it's really easy to line up and get bubble free. Yet to hear of a tempered glass one for the Edge that isn't shite.
Yeah Dbrand is where I'll likely end up going. The thing should be fully insured just in case that all fails tough.
Google are amazing.
I did to my new tablet what I did to my old. Fell on the bathroom tiles (I'm just going to place it in the corner on the floor from now on ffs) and it cracked.
I've just spoken to Paul from Google and they'll be sending me a new one and I have to return the damaged one.
Oh and I'll be buying a screen protector.
Oh and yes, I am a fucking idiot.
He probably thought you were a freak for taking it to the bog.
I blamed a nephew dropping it on the floor.
I always blame a child for any damage that I do.
I too blame it on my spouse.
Girlfriend has just got herself a P9. It is fucking slick.
Im in the market for a new phone. Ive had an iphone since it came out and i want something different. Prefer to stay aay from samsung. If sony offer anything, i will probably go for them at this point. I dont need the latest phone, just something decent and different.
Get a one plus
Just looking into this one plus and the specs are good. It is out of stock. I imagine there is no monthly options for it.
https://oneplus.net/uk/oneplus-one
The Motorola G 4th Gen is out. Looks like a piece of shit.
The one plus three just came out Sincere, get that one.
Yeah the principle behind the One Plus phones are that you buy the handset for about half the price of an iPhone/Samsung and then get a super cheap sim only deal. The only reason I didn't get a One Plus Two was because I knew the Three was due out and I couldn't afford to wait.
The OnePlus 3 is great. I got the use of one for a week and ended up dumping my S7 Edge to get my own.

:harold:
Also I'm on the lookout for a new phone for the misses, I have £200 in Amazon vouchers to spend.
Then I'll get my hands on her S3 with new battery and get Marshmallow on it.
Don't know how they messed that up when the regular S7 is fine against water.
Loads of choice for 200 quid. Most will be better than an S3 too.
I want something that will last at least 3 years though, like the S3 has.
Don't particularly want a 5.5inch screen though.
Anybody had the Google Nexus 5X? 32GB model is £230 but I can get the 16GB (which is ample) for £169 on Amazon today.
EDIT: Nah, reviews put me off, no way it'll last 3 years with a shite non-removable battery and no SD card.
The new Nexus's come out in August I think, might see what price they are at, especially the smaller one.
It'll be around £300-350 on launch. The 5X was a dog but fine with updates now. The unremovable battery would be a worry on any phone if you are looking for 3 years, though its not hard to change
https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Nexus+5X+Teardown/51318
The bigger one or the smaller one?
Aye I can't be arsed tearing it down, ideally I'd be looking for a 3000+ battery and a 5-5.2 inch phone. 3GB RAM and hopefully 32GB storage.
p.s I'm glad you're back you perpetually miserable old cunt.
The smaller. The bigger will be around £500.
You'd be tight on those specs at the money unless you go Chinese. LG G4 might drop nearer £200 soon (probably is already outside Amazon).
https://www.wileyfox.com/storm/
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B014UUQM52/
Only issue being battery, though cyanogen isn't too hard on it.
What about the Honor 7? Only thing is it hasn't dropped in price since it's launch, though that's probably a good thing.
I certainly don't. Just don't want the bitch moaning. All I've heard is fucking moan moan moan for the past 6 probably more months about the S3. LiquidSmooth is starting to develop bugs and I can't be arsed putting another ROM on it...though that's exactly what I'll be doing when I take it.
Unlike Samsung Hawei probably won't release an update that cripples the phone that forces me to root and custom ROM it.
Tell you what the P9 Lite looks nae bad too, same price. Might watch them in case they drop a wee bit.
There's an Honor 8 coming out now too. Probably be closer to the £300 than £200 but should make the price of the 7 take a cut.
Just put a different custom ROM on the S3 (Archidroid 3.1.3 (5.1.1)) which is supposed to be the best performance. Looks good so far apart from I had to re-flash it as it came up black last time and I thought I'd bricked it LOL. All good now.
If you have an old phone can't really see why you'd stick with the stock, tbh it probably needs to be a common phone though as there is fuck all guides out there at the best of times.
A new iOS Jailbreak has been released but, as I predicted earlier in the thread, it's for 64-bit devices only. So basically 5S onwards. I guess my jailbreaking days are over until the 7 comes out and I finally upgrade from my 4S. :(
Tempted by the Motorola G4+. Only £199 on Amazon.
I would like to get this but too expensive - http://www.spark.co.nz/shop/mobile/p...y.html#Prepaid
I have a S2 on Marshmellow and Jail broke my S4 (running 5.1.1).
Yep definitely a good way to keep old phones going.
Honor 7 looks better for same money. It's miles better than the Moto G4 too.
Yeah I saw that, but it has a slower processor and a few others things that is not as good as that one.
I've got expensive taste, so I have been told.
I would like to see how much that is in england and get one shipped to me, might work out cheaper.
Another thing is I have $400 to use on a phone from work and I just top up the rest.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTCdDDn2Q70
Pepsi have made a phone because why the fuck not?
Just managed to pick up a Wileyfox Swift in white from Amazon direct, for £60!
Anyone have any idea why texts are so shit at sending on my phone?
Even when I've got full signal and can use the internet fine, standard old SMS messages don't seem to work very well and take a fucking age to send. They often fail and I'll have to re-send them. I'm on Three.
Talk about undoing all your good work of late. I think I've heard of almost every model of phone go on fire at this stage but when they're actually doing something and not fobbing it off then it must be fairly serious.
http://m.rte.ie/news/business/2016/0...galaxy-note-7/
The iPhone 7 leaks today look
Got fed up of my 16gb iPhone telling me it was low on storage that I ordered a 128gb 7 yesterday. :cool2:
iPhone 7 Plus arriving next week. That camera
I ordered the 7 last week too. He said I'd have it by Friday. Thank fucking God.
I'm going to test out the camera on the Plus and see if it's all it's cracked up to be. It sounds cool, even if it is mega. Also, I can't decide between which black one I want...
My Apple Watch is gonna take about three weeks to arrive
Hilarious, was informed by work today that my data usage was high (10GB). Fuck you, I said...thought. I use my tethering all the fucking time so I thought I had unlimited data, apparently not. I've only got a 2GB allowance? LOL.
Also they said they'd shipped a case for my new phone, yeah only about 5 weeks and 1 drop too late you useless fucking cunts. I bought my own anyway.
Even if you have an unlimited data plan, some providers don't include tethering in that and will limit it.
I don't give a fuck because it's work, mate. We are a mobile provider too. Just STFU and pay my bill if you want me to be productive. Then he used the excuse 'I was just checking it was legit data usage and your phone wasn't doing anything weird'. Aye ok.
Im currently weighing up paying the £200 up front for the 7 vs the 6s. I think I know what the decision will be. :(
Anyone had a 16gb? Not sure whether to go cheap and get that or pay ~£60 extra for 32gb.
The 7 only comes with 32GB as a minimum if that helps your decision.
Yeah, I'll probably be going for the 6s though. When I mention getting a 7 my wife reminds that we also need to buy a car, as if it's an either or issue.
Clear who wears the trousers...
Sensible point. Negotiations continue. Plan is to get her a new SE.
Jet Black is beautiful.
I've got black and it's ace.
And massively faster than my 4S. :D
Yeah, this is a lot quicker than my 6. Swish as fuckkkkkkkk
Aww man. Talk prices - what are you paying for it?
That's not a bad price at all. The model I got here would be coming close to a grand (€) for the handset.
I was expecting about that price so wasn't too bad. Was tempted to spend an extra hundred and get the 256GB model but really 128GB is more than enough so I just got that.
True. I've never needed more than 64GB ever, not more than 40GB really, so I've no idea what people do be at with 256GB phones.
My fucking phone has decided that I'm short of disk space even though I have 200mb spare. I have a fucking gigantic SD card but it reckons I can only move 3-4 apps across to it.
Is there anything I can do to sort this out? It's a bit daft as I've about 30gb spare on the SD card.
5.1
Ah right. You can't do the SD as HD adoptable storage thing until 6.0. Have a look in the Play Store for 'Apps to SD' apps. Some will allow you to move apps to the card that you wouldn't previously. Also, have you cleared out all the cached storage? If it's been ages you could easily get 500MB to a gig there.
Just me or does iOS 10 look like absolute garbage designed by a child?
Who thought this:
http://cdn.iphonehacks.com/wp-conten...wer-mode-3.jpg
Should be replaced with this?
http://cdn.macrumors.com/article-new...on_concept.jpg
It even feels like they've reduced the resolution or something as all the icons feel fucking HUGE now. I won't even get into functionality (how do you mange to make unlocking your phone annoying?), what a terrible update.
It's worth bearing with. Definitely more useful once you get used to the cosmetics.
I bet Austin is a right cunt.
Yeah actually, Snapchat? Christ.
I didn't realise you were 15.
Those are just Google Images.
Austin is still a cunt.
Meanwhile my repaired oneplusx has returned. Thank the stars,I was sick of the Samsung s4 mini.
moto g4 best value smartphone aye?
The iOS lock screen, home button, quick menu (at the bottom) and notifications are fucking bollocks.
There is some cool functionality, but it's pretty meh overall.
Google Pixels due for launch tomorrow. Impressive specs and finally a small version that matches the larger one, but they are seriously meh looking.
http://www.androidauthority.com/full...tailer-719456/
The camera on this iPhone 7 Plus
Google Pixel 32GB €760
Google Pixel 128GB €870
Google Pixel XL 32GB €900
Google Pixel XL 128GB €1010
Sweet baby Jesus. They're dead in the water before they even launch.
They look like shit iPhone clones as well.
The Google Home thing might be interesting though.
I'd prefer the look of the Pixel over the iPhone but they definitely have went towards that generic meh massive top/chin look like Apple do. But like always it just depends on which OS you want so there's little point in comparing them.
None of us will see Google Home until the middle of next year at least. It's US only for now.
Is it not just another Android phone? So it has good hardware, nobody really gives a fuck. The only way this sells is if they manage to make the brand popular and right now Apple and Samsung have an Oasis vs Blur thing going.
Hopefully they can do better than Oasis or Blur in not having their phones go on fire at least.
But yeah, it's never going to take off like those two. Not at those prices and not with only one mobile network per country selling them on contract. I really think they've went down the wrong path with these.
Er, think I've just discovered an iPhone IOS 10 bug. My phone just allowed me to send an SMS without unlocking the phone, by just asking Siri to do it for me.
Anyone else?
Yeah no idea how that can be classed as a bug.
Ah right. That's not good then.
Yeah, it's a bit strange - I would have thought others have noticed. I am using the 5S, however, not sure whether it's the same for the newer models.
Here's a post from four years ago explaining how to turn this off: http://www.cultofmac.com/200675/keep...creen-ios-tips Took about 12 seconds to Google and copy/paste.
I guess if you're driving and/or have some kind of disability issue then this could be useful.
Good, because I just remembered my 6S is network locked to 3 so I couldn't send a message anyway.
Voice assistants are indeed a godsend when driving.
Nobody here had purchased a Note 7 had they? Samsung have finally put a bullet in it.
http://www.androidcentral.com/samsun...-galaxy-note-7
I've been too poor and too unwilling to give up my iPhone 6. Put it into repair today having smashed it in January 2015  It only takes them a couple of hours apparently which makes me wonder whether I should have just done it myself 12 months ago.
Most of them are a doddle to pop a screen in if you have any motor skills at all.
went for a clearance vodafone smart ultra 6, £89.99
My contract's up at the end of next month. What's good these days?
Also, is it worth waiting until January? Would prices come down then or phone contracts not really work like that?
phone contracts are a ridiculous rip-off. just get a sim-only contract. most of my mates on 24-month contracts are gonna end up paying 200-300 quid more than if they'd paid for their phone outright then got a comparable sim-only deal.
Yeah, I know. In the past I generally couldn't afford to pay out a lump sum in one go for the phone so was happy to get a contract that included the handset. I could buy a phone outright now and get a sim only and I know it'd work out cheaper in the long run but I'd feel bad paying that much money in one go for a shiny new toy, whereas paying monthly it doesn't really feel like as much.
Are there any good phones that are reasonably priced to buy outright? I was looking at One Plus Three a while ago. It looks alright. I'm not spending stupid money on an iPhone or anything.
£150ish for the Moto G4 which is meant to be really good, or £90 for the smart ultra 6 which i got. I don't object to people paying big money for high-end smartphones if they actually use the increased power and stuff, but I've still not heard a compelling argument for having a high-end phone for most users. When I've challenged (not in an annoying way, honestly) my mates about why they got a £500 phone they always start babbling about how "easy it is to use" or how the screen looks nice or some shit.
It is like the computer industry being built on YOUR MUM paying £500 for a laptop in curry's that the man in the shop recommended to her to go on foxy bingo and skype the cousins in australia which she could have done on a £200 laptop. And she could have at least got the one she did buy for about £50 cheaper online.
Why avoid contract?
Looking at sim-only deals, are they really cheap enough (with a decent data allowance) to save enough money to pay for the handset outright?
Ones I see seem to be around £15 a month or so. So say that's a saving of £13 a month (I'm not looking at going over the £28 a month I spend now on my contract) - that totals £312 over the 25 month period the contract would be for. That's not going to buy you a brilliant handset, is it?
https://www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk...SpringSale2016
The LG G5 is available there on Three (who I'm currently with) for less than I pay now.
Is it? What's wrong with it?
The previous iterations of the G series were good, weren't they?
They were very good, but the software needed some getting used to. They always felt pretty cheap but well put together at the same time, but the G5 doesn't even manage the latter. Gaps in different sections (where the bottom comes off) and the layer of the plastic coating on the metal is badly finished. Battery life is horrendous (though it comes out) and it also can be prone to the main board completely dying like the G4 did also.
Camera on it is class but there's other phones with very good cameras out there that are far better whole packages.
What's the main thing you want? Screen size? Battery life? Camera? Certain software?
EDIT: the add on modules are also pretty rubbish on the G5 and they're scrapping them for the G6 so there won't be any new ones.
I suppose I mostly use it for browsing the internet, listening to podcasts and playing some games. Hardly ever use the camera.
Now I've actually thought about and listed what I use it for, I'm not sure I even need a new one. Although this one is getting a little slow and the battery life is getting worse.
If it were me I'd try pick up a Moto Z Play. It'll do anything you want really well but beats almost every single other phone in battery life. Now here I can only buy unlocked, so I'm not sure if your networks do it either which would be a problem.
That said, you'd be starting from scratch with a new phone so a factory reset of your current one would be a good option too. Would do it the world of good if you haven't done it in a long while. What is it?
Galaxy S5. Does a factory reset help battery life?
I've always wanted to have a go at custom roms but never got round to it. Might try that.
Yeah it'll definitely help. Just back up to Google or Samsung in the Backup & Reset menu and you won't lose WiFi passwords, etc.
First off though try a cache partition wipe. It's like a mini reset without resetting anything on the phone but can clear glitches built up over time.
https://www.androidpit.com/how-to-clear-galaxy-s5-cache
Worth doing and giving a couple of days before doing a full reset.
I had the G5 for a week and then took it back for an S7 Edge.
S8 Edge should come out in March, right? I think I'll grab that.
Check it doesn't explode first.
I think that might sell it more to me.
I can bomb the infidels.
It's probably the one phone you can guarantee won't explode.
What about iphones? The 7's too expensive but what about the 6? Or that new SE? I'd quite like to try one to see if they're as good as people make out.
You can use something like this http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3...&idPhone2=7995
Most Android mid rangers now will have as good or better chip than the S5, with a better graphics chip, more RAM, and a bigger battery, and Marshmallow upwards is significantly better than Lollipop (presumably the S5 still runs that) in performance and power usage. But for what you need it could be worth getting another year from the S5 with a reset.
The iPhone is also worth a look if you can get an SE or 6 upwards at a decent price. Again, from what you've said you want then iOS will be perfectly fine.
Yeah GSM arena. Here's the G4+ vs the S5
http://www.phonearena.com/phones/com...nes/10053,8202
EDIT: Beaten
I got a new 6s for £499. Never been on a contract but I think I prefer owning something outright. I could sell this in a year for a slightly smaller price and upgrade myself.
SE is very good value, in my opinion. My wife got one recently on contract with EE for like £21 a month. It's basically a big phone in a small body. Not having 3D Touch is the biggest downside in comparison to the 6S / 7, although others might not agree.
Can't speak for coming to iOS from Android - is it a difficult process?
@Magic, I'd be wary of anything with a SD617 in it as it's a bit of an off-day for Qualcomm (like the 810 was in the upper scale). The newer 625 is a big upgrade on it for power usage and performance.
@CJay Moving from one to the other these days is much easier than it ever was. Apple actually have a 'Move to iOS' app in the Play Store for making it painless.
It was just an example, mate.
The more apps thing on iOS is a bit 2011 in that there's very little you'll actually use that isn't on the other platform, or at the very least an equally good equivalent. I'd still look at iPhones though as most likely anyone you know will have one so it gives you the advantage of iMessage. The SE stands up well against a 6 though I'd still get the latter of the two as 4" is ridiculously small a screen size, especially when iPhone screen to body ratios are so bad across all the devices.
EDIT: also, did the S5 recently update to Marshmallow? Most definitely reset it then.
Yeah, just looked at some reviews and the SE looks far too small. Some of my friends have the 5C or 5S. I don't know how they put up with such small phones.
Speaking of using 625's over 617's, this Moto M should be a serious mid-ranger if it comes out around the £300/€400 mark. Especially if it can outlast the the Z Play for battery, I was easily getting 2 days from that.
SD625, 4GB RAM, 64GB storage, 5.5 inch screen, 5100mAh battery and the G4 Plus camera.
Another handy trick on any android phone to make it a tiny bit more nippy all round is to go into Developer Options and scroll down to the Drawing section. Change the 3 animation scale settings to 0.5x. Speeds up all the transition animations.
(If you haven't developer options enabled go to Settings > About Phone > Software, and keep tapping the build number until it tells you it's enabled. It'll show right over the About Phone option in the settings menu.)
I enabled developer settings a while back for something that I can't even remember now.
What are the animation scale settings anyway?
Probably for USB connecting.
They're just the length of the transition of things like opening an app, pulling up.a menu, etc. Shorter the scale the quicker it happens. I nearly always set them to the lowest on all my devices but they're handy for messing about testing stuff.
My LG G3 has finally packed it in. Looking to buy a cheap replacement. I can get a Moto G 3rd gen (16gb) for £150. Anything better in that price range atm? Dont want to spend more
Erm yeah the Moto G4+ for a start...:serious:
Yeah thats the one I meant. Anything else worth looking at at that price?
Not really. Think for anything better you're looking at £200+. Giggs?
The Huawei P8 Lite is decent at that money too but personally I'd go for the Moto too.
EDIT: The Honor 5X is probably hard to get at £150 but it'd be worth a search. Wouldn't be much more anyway.
Cheers chaps, just after something cheap for now and fogured that would be my best shot at the price, sounds like it is.
My phone has been pissing battery life down the drain in the last month or so.
It was a real fucking trooper before lasting for a day or two depending on usage. Now I've had to turn off the GPS and even if the display is off it can barely do 10 hours before conking out. Should I actually want to use it that number reduces dranatically.
It was fully charged when I left my car at 8:30 this morning (had it on charge), I played a game for about 10 minutes on the bus to Uni and another 20 minutes or so during my lunch break. I've had to break my charger out just now at 60% or so.
40% loss with 20 minutes usage in 7 hours, ugh.
Do you still have the LG @Mahow?
A piece of shit app that I forgot I had had used up 16% which has now been deleted.
Nothing else really stands out.
livecamgirls app? Real battery killer.
Ordered the exact same phone again on another 2 year contract.
The 5s really is a great size/shape/weight.
Why did you not go for the SE? There wasn't much price difference between the two.
Having a 4in and 4.7in phone in our home, it's actually hard for me to say which I prefer. The bigger screen of the 6s is amazing and it's not difficult to hold, but the SE fits so perfectly in your hand, which is definitely an overlooked feature nowadays. It'll be interesting to see whether these near bezel-less displays being touted (and made real in Xiaomi's case) ever hit the small form phones.
Hopefully not. While they'll look nice, they'd be near impossible to use.
No idea what the SE is. I ended up getting the 5s for about £26/month with 6GB of data so it's actually going to be cheaper for me going forward, despite getting more. I don't really use the function of the phone to any real great capacity anyway, but having an exact replica spare is appealing.
For me 5.2" is the absolute perfect sized screen. I thought my HTC One M7 was, but the extra .4" really makes the difference. Also I'm a big fan of screen to the edges. Keeps it compact with minimal waste.
Jailbreak imminent so those of you who want to use it, go back to 10.1.1 while you can.
Has anyone got the google pixel XL? Looking to make a change from iPhone and it seems to have decent reviews online.
I had one for a month. It's very nice but not worth the cost.
What's the price I should expect to pay monthly for an iPhone these days?
Depends what model/tariff etc. you want, and whether you want to pay more up-front or spread it over the cost of the contract. Around £30-50 or so.
Motorola G4 v Galaxy J5 2016?
To replace a J5 original, which is a great phone but stuck on 5.1 and only has 8GB of ROM.
The Moto.
J5 has half the screen resolution and a worse processor. The Moto will probably get Android 7.0 too.
Went for the G4, got them to knock it down to £5.50 a month for the phone meaning it's £20 less than buying it in the shops outright.
What's a reasonable amount to pay for an iPhone monthly and how much data should I be looking at getting?
What do you use your phone for?
Unless you are a very heavy user, 3GB is enough. However your monthly cost depends on how many minutes you want?
Probably 200 minutes would suffice and 200 texts.
I have a 4gb plan and usually come within 1gb of it. I browse a lot and read a lot of news / Twitter / email / whatsapp. Generally unless you're streaming video regularly you should be fine with 2-4gb.
I bought outright in October, but chose a 6s rather than a 7. Not because I love the headphone jack or anything - the 7 just didn't have enough oomph for me personally to justify spending more.
2-4Gb, depending on how much you're on wi-fi or using it whilst commuting.
I'm having to shit through my data as the Uni's wifi is absolutely shocking and I need to use my phone as a hotspot.
I was pretty comfortable at 1GB before but now I'm struggling on 3GB.
I use about 8GB a month.
Gotta get that HD midget porn
Forbidden on my account. :(
This is serious value.
https://m.johnlewis.com/moto-z-smart...lver/p/2985783
Thoughts on the OnePlus 3T? Thinking of buying it in mid-April probably.
And ordered.
Should be with me in a few days and then I'll sell my Xperia on Ebay to claw some of the money back.
Get the new black one?
@Mahow
I'm pushed on my Xperia with 32 but I've got a lot of apps that I don't open.
I really need to get some sort of easy cloud storage sorted. It's a fucking nightmare on iOS.
He's scared that his naughty pictures will be stolen and leaked.
No one wants to see him in a gimp mask though so he shouldn't worry.
I have a potential new phone opportunity coming up. The Mrs, having taken my 6+ off me when her phone broke a year ago, is now in the final month of her contract. Despite having dropped it many times. Me insisting her using a case on it has kept it in essentially the same condition as when I gave it to her and so could be sold for a few hundred whilst she can upgrade.
I've been offered the upgrade as I'm far more bothered about technology like this than she is, providing I keep the monthly cost at maximum of £50
Now I like the top of the rangers usually and have the S7 Edge now. So there's the obvious S8 choice.
Is there anything else to look into? I know LG have another flagship due out anytime and that HTC seem to have very quickly died off, but is anything else worth a look? I've heard someone mention the Pixel to me but other than that I've not kept up on the phone market too much.
I've had the vodofone smart ultra for less than a year, but I'm already thinking of upgrading. When I was skint, the ~£100 price tag appealed a lot, but I'm starting to get a bit annoyed that even very limited apps are making it crash, and the battery life is pretty appalling. I have money and might actually have the security of a permanent job contract soon so thinking of entering the world of proper phones.
Am I right in assuming that paying outright for a handset then getting a sim only deal is still the best value? I pay about £20/month for 20GB data and unlimited everything else at the moment.
The LG G6 looks good and is a bit more interesting camera wise than the Samsung. Forget HTC, they're slipping further and further behind the rest.
Pixel is excellent but the hardware has been left behind of late so I'd hold off for the next one later this year. Actually if you've an S7 Edge now then I'd hold off until the Autumn and see what the Note 8, the new Pixel, Oneplus 5, and the new iPhone are like. That's what I'm doing myself.
If it can't be pushed out and you've to jump now then I'd still get the S8+ from the lot.
Not sure how the contracts work over there, but if you want to buy up front and still don't want to spend an absolute fortune then the Oneplus 3T is the no brainer. Though I got to play with an Honor 8 Pro the other day too which is in the same price bracket and it's class. Messier software, better camera.
I've had to install Google Photos on a load of the iPhones in work as they all find the built in app too awkward to navigate. Haven't really had a look myself but I presume they're all just mongs. The small quality loss doesn't really bother me when the storage is free and if there's any photo I really want at full resolution I take it in DNG anyway.
The Office365 subscription that I pay for anyway gives you 1TB of OneDrive storage so almost all other files go there. I got 250GB of Google Drive storage for 2 years when I bought the LG G4 but that's nearly expired so I had to move everything.
I've got Dropbox for it which is fine but it's a fucking pain uploading photos (you need to leave the app open) and then having to manually delete the photos on your phone. Just want something that will upload on a monthly basis and delete them from device.
I don't really understand iCloud, so haven't bothered using it
Give Google Photos a try. There's a 'Clean up Space' button in the main menu that will delete anything it has a copy of uploaded, plus the search function is better than any other gallery app because of the AI they use.
The downside is that you either have to pay for Drive storage and upload the photos at full original quality or you can have free unlimited downloads at a slightly reduced quality. That said, you won't notice unless you blow them up to A4 or something but you can check out a few backups and see if you're happy before you delete anything. The Photoscan app from Google Photos is brilliant for adding old hard copy photos to your gallery too.
Cool I'll look into it. Not bothered about the reduction in quality, it's literally just because I take a lot of photos and can't be arsed deleting them.
I just zoomed in on a photo from my gallery and my Google photos gallery and I can't see any difference anyway.
Google Photos is great, you'd have to work with some serious resolution to need the paid option. Best thing was when I moved to an Android phone and set it up and suddenly 10 years' worth of photos I thought I'd lost all appeared.
The same happened with my wife. Her phone got stolen when we were in the last few days of our 6 week trip, and she was more pissed off about the photos. But we managed to recover them all when we got home using Google Photos.
Cloud storage, for all of the bed press it gets because of people being phished/"hacked", is an incredible innovation.
Woke up this morning and she's dropped the phone and by the looks of it, it's landed on the only part where some of the case had broken away. Completely spider-webbed the screen. I swear she is doing it on purpose.
Does she have mangled hands?
She does now.
Alex Brooker handles things better.
Yeah, any time I make a change it backs up automatically when I'm connected to wi-fi.
She's clumsy as fuck. You know that person who seems to break everything she touches? That's her. This is the 3rd iPhone she has broken, though 1 wasn't really her fault.
Gutting as if it had held on for literally a week longer, we'd have been up money wise, going into a new phone. Now it's looking kind of mandatory I'm losing money.
First impressions of the Oneplus are really good.
It looks and feels brilliant.
Galaxy S8 ordered. I wouldn't have but Vodafone let me upgrade for a tenner and I'd only be paying £2 a month more. Seemed daft not to.
I can get the iPhone screen repaired for £80. Fix it and then sell it for £200 and I'm still up on money, just not by as much.
Which iPhone is it?
6 plus.
Apple quote £156 for a fix. GAME(I didn't know they did it) and a local phone shop will do it for £75(but takes a week) and £80(done in an hour) respectively.
I've changed one on a regular 6 before and it's not bad using the ifixit guide. Screen was around 25 euro iirc. Though 80 isn't bad to save the hassle.
Thought as much myself. To be done in the hour is also pretty damn good.
It literally takes these places 10 minutes to do. Huge mark up but yeah it's not a bad price considering the alternatives.
Got my S8 yesterday and got chance to set it up this morning. I was hoping it wouldn't be an network locked phone, hoping companies stopped doing this. Obviously I was wrong. Got in touch with with Vodafone and they refuse to give me one until I've used a Vodafone SIM in it for 30 days as a fraud prevention measure. Went back and forth on this saying I'd prove/provide anything they asked to prove it wasn't fraud. They responded telling me it was an essential requirement as a fraud prevention measure. Obviously going in circles.
Given I've now an expensive brick unless I can unlock it, are there other ways to unlock it?
It seems there are 3 options.
1. Put a Vodafone Sim in it for 30 days
2. Buy a code on Ebay
3. See if a friend/family member is a Vodafone customer who can get it unlocked through them.
Yeah, eBay. About a tenner.
It's shameful for me that eBay has been around for so long and I didn't even consider it. I'll get on it now.
Sent my phone into a company to sell it so I didn't have to bother with Ebay:
:harold:Quote:
Your phone has pressure marks on the screen also scuff marks on the bezel.
We aim to offer a competitive market price and can confirm that we are able to pay you £13.00
The only reason why I sent it in was because they offered £130. Fucking charlatans, I guess Ebay it is.
Yeah they do that a lot - it's basically their business model.
I managed to crack my screen on the weekend after drinking too much. Not sure whether or not it's time to retire the one plus x or keep it going for another day. It's such a cracking phone.
Send it to o2 or EE recycle.
Watch them send a different phone back and you'll just accept it like a bitch.
Did you install Android O on your Pixel C yet @Sir Andy Mahowry? Very usable for a beta.
Not yet, will do so though.
Edit: It's downloading.
I like it a lot. I don't think much has changed but there are no negative changes that I've seen.
Looks a lot smarter too.
Starting to think of replacing my phone (galaxy s5) as it's getting very slow and the battery life is pretty turd now.
What's a decent budget smartphone now? I think I'd rather but something outright than be locked into a contract for two years.
I feel that the Oneplus is a bit of a battery beast too and it charges up really fast.
Budget budget. Those last three are all about £400. The G5 looks more about what I was thinking.
I was looking at their website the other day. Have you got one then? Which one? What's it like? What's with the other version of Android they use? Is it basically just the same?
Their website still says Cyanogen, which is dead so unless they get something else like Linage you probably won't see updates. Cyanogen was basically standard Android like you find on a Nexus phone but with more options.
EDIT: Was getting mixed up, Cyanogen is still alive. It's CyanogenMod that died and became Linage.
https://techcrunch.com/2016/12/24/cy...rt-of-a-pivot/
Is it not the other way around?
I didn't realise it had died so I might avoid that then.
I've got the Wileyfox Swift. I've had it for just over a year now. What's it like? I don't really know what to say. Its Android and does everything I ask of it. Its starting to slow a little bit and its funny with the Snapchat and Facebook apps (not that I use them often), but my mate has one and hasn't had that problem. The battery life is really good, but I keep it on the lower brightness settings. I should probably add that I don't demand much from it and use Whatsapp, Messenger, Chrome and Reddit 95% of the time I'm on my phone. I download the odd game now and then and they run fine.
Actually yeah I think I was right first time because it was Cyanogen that was originally on the OnePlus phones and they switched to their own then.
Of the other two, the Moto would be closer to AOSP than the Lenovo but there's not much in it. Lenovo's skin always has a few nice touches added on too.
I've been having notifications for the past week to update my phone so they're clearly still doing something.
Anybody know anything about power banks? What kind of power should I be looking at to give me 4-5 charges?
https://www.amazon.co.uk/25000mAh-Po...rds=power+bank
Would this do it?
They never really give the charges expected going by capacity of power bank ÷ phone battery capacity, but that should give you 4 easily. The 1A outputs will be as slow as Christmas but the others will be fine.
Not sure what phone you have but if it has fast charging then have a look at this, or something like it, too.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B01N0QANOE/
I doubt mine will be fast charging as its nothing special. The battery is 2500mAh, so I think I'll go with this as its a bit cheaper. On paper I should get 6 charges out of that, so since 4 would easily do it I should be okay.
Cheers.
Awesome. Thanks.
Few options here: http://thewirecutter.com/reviews/bes...battery-packs/
This Essential phone Andy Rubin has done looks pretty interesting.
Bought a second sim (data only) to use in my Oneplus 3T in Croatia.
I've put roaming on the data sim and have it off on my main sim. I shouldn't incur any costs, should I?
If you're going after 15th of June then roaming charges are ending in EU countries: https://ec.europa.eu/digital-single-...ions-roam-home
Good ol' EU. Great for consumer protection and standardising stuff across multiple country borders. Glad we're not rejecting that because a bunch of fuckwits chucked their toys out the pram due to a bunch of made-up nonsense peddled by the Murdoch press
oh
It was great here too for a lot of people as all the networks put up their prices to make up for the roaming losses meaning you could get out of your contract at any stage because of the hike.
If you'd just got a €900 phone on a 24 month deal you could cancel and keep the handset
https://www.cnet.com/uk/how-to/what-...the-oneplus-3/
Sounds like you already have it sorted. I'd say if you don't take any calls then you should be fine. See if you can turn data off completely for your UK SIM.
This HTC might be old hat as far as design goes but it's actually nice having a flat screen and bezels on a phone again. That camera too
I now have the S8. I loved the S6, this is not quite the same but the media and stuff is better I suppose.
Why can't anything ever be straightforward?
https://www.rte.ie/news/technology/2...ng-charges-eu/
It's only complex if you're the sort of person who goes over your limit. I doubt most people get anywhere near what they have available, and even then you just go back to essentially the same cost as it would have been previously.
I asked my work and I'm on an unlimited data bundle so I can whore it.
What a time to go on holiday in the EU.
I've got the abroad stuff in my contract. Not that I ever really need it but it's nice that it's there anyway. Meant I had no fear about using my phone when I was in Poland a couple of months ago. Got a text after I got back telling me I'd saved about £30 thanks to it. Not that I'd have used it if I had actually had to pay, of course, but it's still handy.
I didn't really have you down as a latest model smartphone kinda guy, Jimmy.
Iphoners, is the 7 Plus worth €99 over the 7?
I genuinely didn't know there was an iPhone 7. What's the difference between the 6?
Would you not wait to see what the next one will be like? My anecdotal advice is that I have a 6s, and once I'd gotten used to the bigger device (upgraded from a 5) I wished I'd bought a 6s Plus instead.
No 3D Touch on the 6. It's actually a really useful feature, but it doesn't get mentioned much.
I've to pick one to get with work this week. I've just bought a U11 so I've no real interest in the Android ones on offer. Probably won't use the iPhone long term but might as well get one for a play with. I'd just have to pay €99 if I wanted the 128GB Plus but the regular size 128GB is free.
Also, if I decide to sell, would a jet black or red tend to shift easier?
The funny thing about the iPhone 7 is that a lot of people who buy it don't even realise there's no headphone jack anymore. A girl in work bought it and she didn't realise until she unboxed it.
All depends on whether you think the Plus is too big. If not, I would pay the extra for it.
Isn't Jet Black even more expensive than regular colours, btw?
No, looking at all the options the storage changes the price but the colors are all the same. It's €200 for a 256GB.
I'll just need to get it shifted if I'm selling before people start hearing too much about the X, as it'll be the first real design change since the 6.
Anyone here with an iPhone regularly swipe away your apps to close them? Well, stop doing it. Annoys me seeing people do it thinking it helps their battery life.
https://daringfireball.net/2017/07/y...orce_quit_apps
Pretty sure I'm gonna pick up a Honor 9. It looks like a great phone for the price.
Got Huawei P10 lite for 270-ish euros a couple of months back. Pretty good value for money so far, although I have to admit I had an LG before so the bar was set pretty low.
You get notifications even if they're not running.
Not necessarily but I don't really see the point in arguing so I'll take your word for it lol
Notifications are not the same as an app.
Push notification services are separate from an app and can receive messages even when the app is inactive.
Not bad, reminds me of an LG G6 a bit. The early leaks with it in a case made it look like it had no bezels at all.
Hadn't the sound on but presumably the fingerprint scanner is in the screen as I don't see one on the back.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNkOVdpquRo
I dropped my phone in the toilet after I'd done a shit (before flushing).
The rumour (leaked in HomePod firmware the other week) is that there will be no touchID on the premium version, with 3D face scanning instead. Interesting that they would ditch after just adding it to the Mac lineup, but they must have a very secure and easy to use alternative if they're ditching it.
We still seem to be a way off having scanners under screens.
I'd heard the yield rates were terrible on the embedded ones which is why I thought it was curious if they were including it. I've since seen some apparent photos taken in foxconn of ones shopping with it mounted on the rear, around the same position as a Pixel.
The face scanning is interesting and if they go with it on some models then you can bet they'll have it secure at least. Hopefully it works better than Samsung's iris experiment, which should hopefully disappear once the screen embedded ones become feasible.
Oh and lol at @Magic. Did you fish it out?
Of course I did, thankfully it was a solid one and I'd done lots of wiping but it still sunk half-way down, top end in first thankfully. I stuck my hand right in amongst the ploppers and pulled it out, hand soaked in piss and desperately checking for shite. I went to run it under the tap but realised that would be stupid so pulled the case off, threw that in the sink and wiped my phone to fuck with the hand towel. You really are fucked if that happens. I didn't even wipe it down with Dettol wipes or anything.
Lol shitty ear.
My smart arse wife said I talk shit so nobody should notice but I returned with yes but it wasn't the microphone it was the earpiece and that normally serves up your shite so you are correct I won't notice any difference.
Game, set and match.
What are the MS Office apps like on an iPad?
They're really good.
Good range of the features in the likes of excel? I always find the Android tablet ones a bit clunky compared to desktop but I'm really contemplating an iPad pro instead of a new laptop. Ever try the android versions for comparison? Nobody I know with an iPad has an office subscription.
My old Galaxy S5 barely lasts a day now and it's generally just very slow so I'm going to have to give in and get a new phone. Still, three years out of it isn't bad. The Nokia 8 looks quite decent. Seems to be getting good reviews (although not earth-shattering) but more importantly is reasonably priced. Can get it with unlimited mins and texts and 8GB data for £25 a month with some (automatic) cashback offer for £80 making it effectively £21.67 per month.
Anyone have any other recommendations?
A Nokia? Is it 1997 again already?
They're actually made by HMD now (another Finnish company) and branded as Nokia.
Doing the old 'I want to leave. Convince me not to.' dance with Three now.
Got past level 1 . Now going through to the cancellations team. The big boys.
Level 1 pleb's 'deals' were shit too.
Get a Xiaomi Mi A1 if you're looking a bargain.
They called my bluff. :moop:
They come in such a way you won't get hit for duty on it if you can wait 10-14 days for it.
I got a Lenovo P2 recently and couldn't be happier with it.
The battery is genuinely astonishing.
EDIT: Although I have a sim only contract so just bought the phone, which may not suit you. I don't think you can get it with any UK carriers any more.
That has Android One on it, which is the main reason I'd recommend it (plus the combination of the battery size and One running on a 625). There's never anything wrong with Xiaomi's hardware but I wouldn't touch one with that MIUI crap they normally put on it.
What bracket of phones are you looking at on the contract then?
That Nokia 8 one I posted before looks to be about the best deal I can find. It's from this crowd though and I'm not sure how trustworthy they are.
Did the LG G6 not get terrible reviews? Or was that the G5?
And isn't the iPhone SE quite outdated now? It was basically the iPhone 5s rebranded, was it not?
I'd go for an S7 at a decent price. Three offered me one on the phone earlier but it started off at £31 a month then went down to £29. If it'd gone down to £25, I'd have taken it. I assume the Edge is more expensive than the normal one? I'd prefer the normal non-Edge one.
I had the edge for a long time myself but I'd buy the normal one if I was getting one now too as I've gone that I prefer a smaller phone. Still one of the best cameras you can get (if camera was of interest I'd get it over the Nokia) and Samsung's UI has come on leaps since the S4 S5 days.
The G5 (with that removable chin gimmick) was the shit one and the iPhone SE is basically an iPhone 4 in form but the internals are identical to a 6S.
Saw a decent deal on the Google Pixel 2 there and was tempted. Then discovered it doesn't have a headphone jack.
The only thing with Bluetooth is it drains your battery. The adapter thing works fine though.
Only time I'm using the Bluetooth is in the car and it's constantly charging when I'm driving anyway.
Hard to kill the battery on it anyway. I was dubious about buying the phone at all because it was under 3000mAh but Android 8 seems to be very light on it. Improved the life on the Pixel C hugely too.
I'm still rocking my iPhone 5s because it's a fucking quality piece of hardware. Contract came up and got a new one which is still sealed in the box for when this one croaks.
If I wasn't a retard I'd have gone for the SE, but whatever. Ignorance is my punishment.
Shut up about fucking iPhones.
https://www.idmobile.co.uk/shop/pay-...p10-plus-black
This looks a pretty good deal. The 4gb data a month for £23.99 one.
My lenovo p2 is great though guys.
Guys?
If you want to relax about never running out of battery, best I ever seen for it. I like the software too, very like plain android.
If you get that P10 @Boydy, put a screen protector on it.
Why do you say that?
https://www.androidcentral.com/huawe...phobic-coating
Had a regular P10 for a while and it really does get surprisingly bad.
Well that sounds annoying.
S7E is a great phone imo. Battery life is questionable but thenI have a load of turd apps for work that destroy battery, am constantly on it and it's second hand.
Brilliant phone. Only issue I ever had was screen burn-in from constant satnaving, but that's to be expected with oled and I was really heavy at it.
The battery isn't too hard to manage and the charging is very quick anyway.
I'd probably still have it over the S8 for the screen shape and front fingerprint scanner.
Just stick a tempered glass one on it.
https://www.mobilefun.co.uk/olixar-h...-63101-reviews
Smashed my phone last night. 75% of screen constantly flickers and it's unusable.
It's a Galaxy s7 edge and I use it a hell of a lot for work. I'm 6 months away from end of contract and it's not insurede.
What's my best option? Screen replacement is about £200 so that's fucking pointless. £500 sim free jobby off amazon until my contract is up?
https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/sam...ermany-2858698
You can get an S8 for that price.
Is anyone here with O2 and near the end of their deal?
I've still got til May before I can upgrade but thanks to the Mrs seeing it on a budget page, they are offering to buy some contracts out early and let you upgrade. I've just checked and I am eligible for it. Sods law is they don't have the phone I want though.
iPhones are such a sack of shit. I’ve had mine less than a year (well, I’ve had this one 7 months) and it’s the second time I’m having to go to the ‘Genius Bar’.
Last time, it was because my phone was stuck in an infinite loop of starting up and they had to replace it. This time the charger (and any other charger) only works if you balance something on top of it or hold it in place. No appointments until Sunday either.
I wouldn’t mind but I bought the thing outright so not even an upgrade in sight.
Give me Samsung over this shit any day.
Sounds like you've been unlucky because they're normally solid for that kind of thing. Do you have lightning headphones plugged in while it's in your pocket?
You done the classic use a paper clip to try and remove any fluff from the iPhone charge socket?
If there's lint or fluff that's stuck in there from being in your pocket, which is common for iPhones seemingly, it'll struggle to charge.
Condescending I know, because you've definitely already thought of that.
Yeah, those ports are serious lint magnets.
I've ordered the Pixel 2 (normal, not XL). £15 up front and £27.99 a month with 5GB data on EE. When I was talking to Three before, trying to get them to give me a decent offer to stay, they said I never go over 3GB a month so 5 should be fine.
Good choice.
I hope so. Seems like a good deal as well, I thought. Compare it to your latest Samsungs or iPhones and they're way more expensive.
I saw face recognition in action for the first time on my mates oneplus 5t (?) the other day. The future is epic.
Best Android phone you'll get anyway unless you want the million extra settings you get on a Samsung.
Yeah the 5T. They'll be activating it on the 3, 3T, and 5 with a software update too. It's not as advanced as the one on the iPhone 10 because it hasn't the same hardware but it works brilliantly. Would be the Android phone to get if the camera wasn't average.
I can get the Moto G5 plus for £200 off carphone warehouse, sound like a good deal @Giggles ? I usually stick to the ~£130 price range, but it sounds like it's worth the extra. And £200 is absolutely my limit for a phone. Won't leave my sim only deal either because I absolutely need fuck loads of data.
Yeah probably the best in the range, very good battery and software.
The Nokia 6 and Xiaomi Mi A1 are worth a look too.
O2 don't seem to sell the Pixel or Pixel XL. Annoying as I'd upgrade to that in a heartbeat.
They don't sell them at all here, not even on the Google Store. I had to go to a UK Carphone Warehouse to get it.
Did you get that deal online? If so can I have a link please? The missus is after one and that sounds a really good deal.
The battery in my Moto Z is a dud, it's dead less than a year in so I'll be arranging a return tomorrow. Once you're down to about 30-40% battery it will turn itself off at any given moment and won't come back on until it's charged again, it's really fucked me over a couple of times now. Makes me miss my LG G3 with its removable battery. Hope the return/replacement process isn't long, would be a massive pain in the arse to be without it for 3 weeks through no fault of my own.
https://www.mobiles.co.uk/google-pix...elect%5B%5D=ee
Should be the top one on the list of there if the filters I've put on still work via that link. They should as they seem to be in the URL.
Used the voucher code '10OFF' to reduce the upfront cost by a tenner.
Not sure why the black model is more expensive. I went for the 'Kinda Blue' one.
You can also get the Pixel 2 XL for £9.99 up front and £37.99 a month, with 15GB data on EE.
Seems a cracking deal.
@Samadini did you order yet?
I just realised there's a refer a friend option :baz:
Nah, turns out her contract isn't actually up until March, so we're a way off yet. Thanks though.
I made sure I backed up all my photos to Google photos before factory reset last night, took about 2 days to complete the backup. Looked all good so I went for the factory reset and formatted my SD card.
I've just lost over 5000 holiday and family photos. Close to crying.
Very strange. Are you sure they're not there somewhere under a messed up date and time stamp or anything?
Yeah just scrolled through the entire thing. It looks like the only thing that's recovered are WhatsApp photos. I am properly devastated.
Can't think what happened there as normally camera uploads is uploading by default and you have to select yes/no for other photos like downloads, WhatsApp, or Twitter. Maybe didn't have the required permissions to access the SD card or something. I can't check as the few phones I have here at the moment don't have SD slots.
Check this on your phone (photos, settings, backup & sync) and see if there's a slider for SD or something. Though unfortunately it's probably no good for what you've lost :(
You don't have anything else backing up do you? I have OneDrive on my phone uploading them too.
http://i63.tinypic.com/2j4r7s5.png
No Dropbox or anything? Shambles.
Won't help you much now, but when doing anything like that I'd check the desktop version of the Google Photos site to make sure it all matches what you see on your phone. Like in Giggles' screen I've got a few folders deselected to avoid duplication.
Don't know whether something like this would work but have you tried a program like Recuva to see if it can restore the files? Should be able to use it to scan the SD card.
https://www.piriform.com/recuva
Hurry up new phone. :(
Was going to ask if you had it yet.
Nah, thought it would be here today. According to the tracking, it's not even arrived in NI yet. I'm hoping that's just slow to update and it'll be here tomorrow.
According to DPD's tracker, it was at their distribution centre in Athlone in the early hours of this morning. What the fuck is it doing down there? That's well out of the way to here.
Is there only one central sorting hub for all of Ireland then? I'd have thought they'd have it closer to whatever port it comes into. Or that there might even be one in the north.
I'd imagine to cut down on costs they have one that covers us and you. No point in paying two sets of facilities and wages.
It's being delivered today. Just got the text.
I saw some thing on Google's pixel 2 site about it being easy to transfer all your stuff from your old phone across? Is it easy?
You'll have unlimited photo uploads at original quality until the end of 2020 with the phone too.
Yeah. Not got round to setting it up yet as the old one needed to charge before transferring shit and then I was watching the match. Gonna do it now.
Did it come with the A to C dongle? I couldn't find my box to check for sure and I was thinking after that I may have had the S8 in mind
Yeah, it did. It's got a headphone jack adapter too which is nice. Thought I'd have to buy one separately.
It's copying my stuff over now so I've not actually used it yet but it looks lovely. It is noticeably narrower than my S5 though which might take a bit of getting used to.
I'm not sure how well the switch thing does as I set up from scratch myself. The texture of the back is nice and not too slippy, though I've one of the fabric cases on it at the moment.

http://i68.tinypic.com/35n4s2e.jpg
Screw you, Craig.
What's happened?
Mobiles.co.uk hadn't informed EE properly to have the contract set up. So it wasn't properly registered on their network. It is now. But as he said, I had a phone and no contract so if I'd not told them to get it registered I'd have had a Google Pixel 2 for the £15 I paid up front.
Although I'm sure they'd probably have noticed at some point.
Shit. Ah well, you'd need a plan anyway so in the bigger scheme it's not a huge difference.
Craig sounds like a titanic bellend.
He sounds a bit too perky to be in a help centre for my tastes.
People seem to be selling Samsung S5s for about £70-80 on ebay. Ones with cracked screens are listed for about £70. I should probably sell mine.
Would it be worth buying a replacement battery and bumping the price up a bit? If so, where could I get one? The ones on ebay seem to be a load of cheap Chinese shite.
I'd always keep a backup for the sake of that much. Back before I got so many phones I always kept a decent one because you never know. But even if you do sell I wouldn't bother with a new battery. People will always look it cheaper and you'll make no extra on it.
Definitely keep it. My Moto Z is off being repaired at the moment and I'm back on my LG G3. What a beast of a phone that was.
Yeah I was glad I kept my old one when I had to send my Oneplus to be fixed.
Didn't think about that, actually. Good point.
Fully switched over to the new phone now. Keyboard's a bit different so is taking a bit of getting used to but everything else is very good.
The fingerprint scanner is brilliant. Never thought it'd be something I'd want to use but it's so quick and easy.
Had a passcode yeah. I tried using the fingerprint scanner on the S5 once but it was shit and in a bad place.
Urge to switch from S8 to Pixel 2 XL rising.
I've never used the fingerprint scanner on my S7. Are they worth it?
I thought that print and iris scanning would be some kind of useless gimmick but I'm spoilt by it now, can't imagine typing in a passcode manually any more like they had to in the war.
Giving your fingerprints to THE SYSTEM mate.
Dunno, just thought it was a bit gimmicky is all.
I just tell Alexa to unlock it for me.
Speaking of which, hopefully the yields are up on this tech and we see it become commonplace in 2018.
https://www.cnet.com/news/vivo-first...ones-ces-2018/
My phone is arriving from the service centre tomorrow. That seems worryingly quick, particularly after reading reviews of how shady they are. A lot of people have said they got their phone back without any repairs done and a large bill for a small repair if you want them to do it. They haven't sent an email with an explanation of what they've done or not done, I've just had a text from the courier to say it is coming tomorrow.
Going to be seething if i just have a letter saying they won't fix it.
FaceID on the iPhone X is basically magic. Only annoyance is that it doesn't work so great when lying down or when the device is flat.
Even better than fingerprint unlock, which is pretty ace.
Don't the tears over having paid £1000 for a phone get in the way of the faceID though?
I went from a 6, so it's a big leap for me. Overall though I think cameras have reached near the top of their S-Curve and huge changes there aren't likely until there's a massive shift due to some new technology.
Portrait mode is pretty awesome mind - I've got some great shots with it so far, but that's primarily a software/AI enhancement than anything to do with the camera per se.
Huawei seem to be the only company pushing smartphone cameras from a hardware perspective. I'd expect to see some good stuff and a lot of crazy shit from them in the next while. The non Chinese won't bother too much and will play things safer like we've seen. I was impressed with the portrait thing from what could be done, pretty much of a muchness with what Samsung and Google are trotting out too, until I realised I have zero practical use for them. Though I'm definitely not one of the selfie generation so I'm in the minority on that one.
Also, on the price. If you are an iOS user then with the way smartphone prices are in the market these days then it's worth every bit of it.
I've set it up. Holy shit.
I love me a shiny gadget, but this time round I think I'll move sideways rather than the best thing out. This contract is for the S7 Edge the Mrs now uses and is currently costing £56 with £6 of that being insurance. I did however manage to blag an O2 open code somehow last time so I actually pay about £50. I never actually had one but convinced the guy at the shop I worked at the right place and he put it through for me.
Unfortunately the O2 open code process has changed since. It's all online now and they want a work email or payslip as proof. Don't think I'll be able to manage that this time around.
I still have O2s offer of them paying the rest of my contract up available, but for example looking at the S8 they offer, it's £48/month with £89.99 upfront(unlimited/unlimited, 10GB). MobilePhonesDirect have the same tariff for £35 a month with the handset being free.
Having never used a site like them before, are they too good to be true? Because that's a massive difference of £312 over the course of the contract, never mind the upfront saving. I've always gone direct to the networks before.
Not sure about them but I got that Pixel 2 I've been talking about from mobiles.co.uk who also seem to have pretty good deals. They were absolutely fine. Although they are owned by Carphone Warehouse so that helped me trust them.
LOL so my fingerprint didn't work today, I did it loads of times and it eventually locked me out for 2 mins. When I got back in it deleted all my emails for 'security reasons'.
:moop:
That must be some of the corporate interference with the phone.
Apple needs to cut these cunts off straight away with this shit.
https://www.imore.com/bmw-why-apple-...carplay-ios-12
Yeah VW do that. It's a 3 year thing rather than annual but fucking subscriptions for ICE? GTF.
It's brilliant having Android Auto on the phone and I'd use it every day, but my next vehicle will definitely have it built into the car. If there was a decent head unit with it available I'd have it in the current one already.
My S7 has a massive pink line down the screen. :(
Does anyone have the Pixel 2 or XL?
I'm looking at that being my next phone. Wondering how the battery life is. I know it's to be expected with a big, bright and 4k screen, but my S8 seems quite bad. Considering you can get one for £40 or less per month with a fuck-tonne of data, I might switch to it.
Myself and @Boydy have Pixel 2's. Battery life has been much better for me that I was getting when I was using the S8 (or most other phones I've tried in the last year).
Yep. Default is the middle of the 3 settings.
What's your battery life like, anyway, @Gray Fox? Interested to hear as I don't know anyone personally who has the S8.
Now that's what I want to hear. I've had my S8 running at WQHD since I got it and it just eats the battery. I've used it a pretty reasonable amount today and from 100% I'm now sitting at 13%.
I'm due an upgrade in May, but o2 keep telling me I can upgrade for free. Unfortunately they don't offer the Pixel so it'd be pointless. I'd have to get another S8 out or go to either the LG G6 or an iPhone. Considering even the iPhone 7 plus is still just as expensive as what I have now, I don't see the point.
Added to that, the o2 data signal around the town has become shocking. They said they were upgrading it over christmas but if anything they've made it twice as bad. I don't even get 4G now around most of town. I've complained but got the usual palming off type response.
Because of that I'll probably look to leave, but I'd have to buy myself out. That figure is currently £100 so I can't really justify that right now.
The 2XL's battery life is even better. Don't recall anything better for battery in the last while.
I was waiting for my O2 contract to dwindle down to an amount I can pay straight off, as I still have £100 of my Fantasy Football winnings, that time became this month, but the above good offers on the Pixel 2 and XL had gone from mobiles.co.uk.
I've just checked back today and another couple of good offers have come up. You can get the Pixel 2 for £29 a month after £75 up front. 16gb of date and Ultd/Ultd minutes and texts. Or £34 a month with only £25 up front.
If you want the XL, you can have it with the same package as above, £10 up front and £38 a month. This seems like a very good offer. I was looking at the iPhone 8 plus on three, with free phone for £45 a month and 8gb of data until now. In short anyone but O2. Their data signal in the town centre here has gone shite for me. Certain parts of town are literal dead zones where I can't even connect at all. If I can get off that and reduce my phone bill by £11 a month then I'm a happy chappy.
I need to buy myself a new phone as my ancient HTC is finally gone from being a bit creaky to actually dying so I'm going to get a cheap sim only deal from somewhere and buy a new phone. Any recommendations that aren't an iPhone? Doesn't need to be anything particularly fancy, half decent camera would be good for work but I guess most of them will have that these days, other than that I will use it for normal phone stuff and maybe listening to a podcast or two.
So, people who know thing about phones, which makes should I be avoiding and which are the better ones to go for?
£200 - £300 I would think, I'll check out your suggestions. Thanks.
I got a MiA1 recently for a look as I seen the 64GB on eBay for €155, and it really is excellent. Near identical software to the Pixel.
Only thing it may fall down on is the camera. It has the single + telephoto setup and it's very good in daylight but only ok in low light. Then again, at around 200 quid you won't get a camera that is really good all round.
I got my Huawei p10 lite for 230ish pounds a year ago and I've been pretty satisfied, if you end up not going with the Xiaomi (which really is great value for money).
I should point out, the Pixel 2XL is fantastic.
One thing to add about the Mi A1 @Disco, if you install the custom port of Google Camera on it (bit of messing about with ADB but nothing major), then it improves it in a huge way.
I was doing some comparisons earlier and the photos with the A1 with the port are closer to the photo the Pixel 2 takes than they are to the original photo you would get from it's standard app.
The battery is excellent too.
My Moto Z just got its Oreo upgrade today. The launcher tray shade is really annoying and I don't seem to have a way to get rid of it. The phone is running significantly better since the upgrade though, almost all lag, which was becoming a bit of a problem, is now gone. Recently got that new battery, so hopefully won't need to be after a new phone for a good while now.
Missus is still looking for a new phone, her contract is up in a couple of months, I normally avoid any 'lite' phones, but the P20 lite seems like it's a very decent budget phone. Anyone got any experience with it?
There's a Moto G6 on the way next month, though the three P20's are supposed to be very good. I've only got a go on the Pro so far.
There's the Honor 10 coming too but I'm not sure if the pricing is in the same range as the P20 Lite.
My dad bought a new smartphone today for £20.
It's some probably rubbish Alcatel thing but he only uses it for calls and texts anyway. It's just mad that a phone that can get you on the internet and whatever else now costs that little.
Android P seems pretty stable and usable. Can be tried out on any of these:
Essential Phone
Nokia 7 Plus
Sony Xperia XZ2
Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S
Vivo X21
OnePlus 6 (released soon)
Google Pixel and XL
Google Pixel 2 and XL2
Whether most of the changes are good is another matter though.
S7 got Oreo. It's awesome.
Nokia 7 plus looks good, is there a better mid range phone though, ornate least alternatives I should be looking at?
My girlfriend got a Huawei P Smart recently and I've been quite impressed by it. Specs look similar to the Nokia but it's a fair bit cheaper.
The charger that came with my 2 XL gave out the other day.
I've been getting by fine by using the old S8 charger my Mrs now uses. Only problem is I've tried charging it today and it's slowed to a snails pace. Reckons it'll be 8 hours for a full charge.
I'm hoping this is only the phone being pissy about me not using the Google charger and not a sign of a hardware issue.
I just plugged the wife's S8 charger into mine and it just charges normally. My Pixel 2 and Pixel C chargers both show 'charging rapidly' so I'd say you're grand. Samsung always use different fast charging tech to most other manufacturers anyway.
What are you doing to your charger that it gives out after less than a year? :cab:
It's not the cable that's gone through fraying of the cable or anything. It looks fine to the eye. No signs of wear. It just does nothing when plugged in. I think the charger is bricked.
If I plug the charger from the S8 in, it says "charging slowly" and estimates me about 8 hours to charge. I'm hoping this sorts itself out.
Anyone know why a Samsung S8 might all of a sudden stop sending emails when using the default email app? Whenever an email is sent it gets stuck in the Outbox.
Mobile phone adviser suggested clearing cache which resolved the issue for a day, but it then reverted back to getting stuck in outbox.
The Outlook app has no such issues however.
I doubt all of this is true, but if it's even a quarter of it

Quote:
Cheng has hinted that the phone could have as much as 4TB of internal storage space, and up to 45-day standby times (potentially three of the aforementioned four breakthroughs). If the Z5 delivered all of this, it would represent one of the biggest technological leaps we’ve ever seen in the smartphone sphere. I mean, manufacturers are trying desperately to deliver 45-hours of standby time, never mind 45 days.
https://cdn57.androidauthority.net/w...bezel-less.jpg
I hate that fast charging shite. Just charge the fucking phone as best as possible.
Anyone recommend a rolling 1 month phone contract? I'm after good coverage & lots of data for minimal dollars.
I pay £15 per month for 24Gb of data with Virgin.
That's about as good as it gets.
Virgin uses EEs network too, so don't let the name put you off.
Is this phone any good?
My Nexus 4 has finally given up the ghost after someone who shall remain nameless chucked coffee all over it and now the microphone doesn't seem to work. What is Prime Day?
Neither of those seem to link to anything.
That site won't ship here (Guernsey), and I got a bit confused with that Honor 7 thing, is it massive? Some of them seem to be 1.5cm thick and weight 500g, which seems, erm, substantial. See here.
Is this that Nokia one?
What about this little bugger? Any good?
Yeah would be a good shout too, and is a bit smaller. Nearly everything is going to feel big coming from the Nexus 4 though, the Nokia is pretty sizeable as well (that's the right one btw). The Nokia would have software extremely close to the Nexus (Runs Android One so Google handle the updates) and Huawei do their own thing completely, looks a bit like iOS.
Probably be a bit dearer, but what about an iPhone SE or one of the original Pixels? I'd say there's good reductions on them now and they're a good one handed size.
EDIT - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Google-Pi...r=502318494686
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Apple-iPh...r=631482075796
Went for one of these in the end.
Good choice. John Lewis were selling them for £159 a week or so ago. Mental price.
Would explain why they're massively sold out there, as I'd have probably got one from them otherwise.
It's not like John Lewis to have anything for less than double what it should be.
Finally got a replacement for my broken S7 Edge.
Enter the Honor View 10.
What an awesome phone.
New iPhone being announced soon. Hope it looks nicer than the X.
Not that I’ll ever be able to afford to upgrade my 7, mind.
My S7 edge is starting to die. The battery only lasts around 8 hours of decent usage now, and I've started carrying about a powerbrick with me just in case. It's had a decent run - I've had it for 2 and a half years. Hopefully it can cling on until the S10 comes out.
I was looking at a Note 9 myself the other day, eglobal have the big 512/8GB dual SIM version at €1016 at the moment but I just know I'll regret it of I don't wait til October to see what the Pixel 3 and OnePlus 6T are like.
I need to go in and take advantage of the fact that Apple got sued into having to replace the battery for cheap but the idea of having to schedule an appointment to talk to an Apple 'Genius' means it's nearly 9 months later and I still have awful battery life.
If you've an iPhone 6 you're well due an upgrade anyway. Those things are slower than a wet week now.
I'm not on a contract, I bought this one with my bonus from years back.
Probably but I'm not chucking a grand at any of the shit that's around at the moment.
Stop paying for homeless folk to drink Special Brew.
I'm back in Switzerland now, we've just got Romani which aren't getting a penny.
The S10 looks insane, spec wise.
This is why I opted for a beast of a phone now (internal spec wise) because the S10 and the innovations that come off the back of that I won't be able to appreciate for a couple of years LOL.
Those Huawei/Honor phones are absolute monsters for specs.
They are, it's quite disgusting.
The only 'downsides' to the View 10 that I can see are:
Not as good a camera
Not waterproof (at all)
Everything else is totally solid. The EMUI interface took a bit of getting used to, but within a day I absolutely adore it over my S7 Edge. £270 ex-VAT lads.
I feel like all the Android phones can kind of mould into one now. Very small differences about these days.
Is the S10 supposed to be that good?
In the market for a new phone. Can get the Honor 10 for 329 which sounds pretty awesome but then I'm a bit worried about dropping it and it smashing to smithereens.
Is it the best phone around that price? Will I kill it within a month?
The Nokia 7.1 is getting good write ups in that price range. There's the Xiaomi Pocophone F1 too but it has a MIUI software skin which is a mess. The Nokia is an Android One phone.
Nokia 7.1 looks a sensible buy. Which would you choose out of that or the Honor 10?
Depends what you want from it. I'd say the Honor camera is slightly better and it has a faster processor, but personally I'd choose the one running Android One over one with EMUI for clean software and future updates (Google looks after the updates for Android One phones directly).
I’ve got a Samsung S9 arriving tomorrow.
I’ll be so glad to see the back of my iPhone, the piece of shit. In 18 months they’ve had to replace it once and unclog the charging port twice, which meant 3 trips to pissing Tilbury backwaters. It’s also slow as fuck in comparison to what my S6 was and has a battery life of about 7 minutes.
Fuck Apple.
I'm getting a pain in my hole waiting for a Mate 20 Pro to arrive.
Got a P20 pro coming tomorrow.
20% off the contract too as I get NHS discount through my Mum.
Unrelated (I'm writing this from one of their laptops) but I was recording an interview while short on equipment today and found out that Lenovo have software patched out using your headphone socket as a 3.5mm input microphone without doing a bunch of work I didn't have the time to do. PATCHED OUT. IT'S FUCKING MADNESS. What engineer made the decision to push out a build that makes your hardware less useful?
I'm not that bad.
Phone contract has ran out, have a few options:
Get an S9, get a One plus 6t, get the Huawei p20 or wait till the start of next year for the s10.
Thoughts? I've literally no idea as they all look mint and cost a similar amount for the contract I'm after.
There might be some good deals about next week.
Black Friday Deals thread? :baz:
If you've something decent now I'd let it roll to the S10.
I'm happy to provide two links: one affiliate and one normal. I've seen it done this way on other forums and those who appreciate the effort use affiliate links and those who--
actually what's the point? doesn't harm you clicking an affiliate link. Unless you're buying a bondage outfit and a job lot of dog food and think I can see everyones purchase, what's so bad about affiliate links? Links from hot uk deals, google and wherever else are just those websites' affiliate links anyway. Why not let me pocket the 8p commission when you spend £1.58 on lollysticks? :cab: I'll just include a disclaimer in the thread or summat, ye ingrates.
I'm on a computer all day at work now and Friday's are notoriously quiet, so would be happy to post some bargains. I'll even take requests.
Because you're a sneaky cunt.
You tried to tie this place into one of your affiliate deals without telling anyone around the same time you were trying to bring traffic here by posting about Magic's marriage problems without his permission on Reddit.
Every time.
The P20 pro is glorious.
Especially with the navigation button enabled rather than the shit virtual ones.
Thanks for admitting you did it. I was expecting more avoidance
That sort of snide dickery is why some people, myself included, won't just let you 'pocket the 8p commission.'
If anyone ever needed a reason to buy a Mate20 Pro.
http://i67.tinypic.com/4hdzk3.jpg
:D
Amazing.
O2 down?
Phone showing no signal. Anyone else here got problems?
https://downdetector.co.uk/problems/o2
Glad I'm not the only one.
I keep getting a notification every half hour saying data is down, which would be nice if there was some kind of 'don't tell me again' option.
@wullie
Data is down.
Up yours
Fucking hell, data works now and just got the message again. We didn't have this with Nokias yeah, playing Snake and typing your own ringtone and that
So glad I switched to EE as I was always having data problems with O2.
Just before crimbo, I got a Nokia 7 Plus dual sim version. Love it, work and personal sim and it fast. Good screen size as well.
My View 10 just got upgraded to Android 9. Disgusting such a good phone was had for about £300.
Honors are always serious good bargains.
Just before Christmas I saw a deal where i could get the s9 on a 24 month contract, ~ £50 upfront, £30/month with 20 gb data.
Was this just an incredibly great bargain that I should have gone for, or do these kinda deals pop up semi-frequently? If so, when should I look? My Moto G 5+ has served me well for what I paid for it, but the amount of data I get through the economics of paying up front and getting a sim only deal aren't actually that great, as even sim only is quite pricey for what I get through. And to be fucking honest, after 10 years of stubbornly using low-end phones I quite fancy splurging, if only for a one off.
Anyone got a OnePlus 6T?
Worth it?
I literally don't know what I'd do without unlimited data. Managed to sneak myself onto a plan for 'young' people the week before I turned 29. I'm never leaving.
What do yous do with all that data? My contract has about 5GB and I don't even get near it.
I typically use around 8GB, but a lot of that is from the amount of time spent on trains and walking the dog and listening to podcasts. I have 24GB so it's nice to never have to worry.
I’ve used 128 gb in 6 months.
Work pay mine and I've 30GB on the plan I think but I've never got the text to say I'm close to the limit despite lots of hotspotting for the laptop.
With a discount I can get the s10 plus for £42/month over 24 months with 30gb data. Worth it? Kinda fancy a top end phone for the first time ever.

I'd do it anyway. The regular 10 is pointless because of the 10e, but the 10+ is about as good as you'd get at the moment. No upfront cost is class for it.
Alternatively, do they do the P30 Pro?
Camera and battery/charging are better on the Huawei, screen and software is better on the Samsung. I'd probably still get the Samsung, it's just more polished to use, unless camera is the biggest thing for you on a phone as it's outstanding on the Huawei.
No there's no quality loss (it's actually better if a company actually uses the hardware properly like htc have done in the past) and you'll get USB-C buds in the box along with the adapter, but yeah it's a balls when you want to listen and charge if you haven't a wireless charger nearby. I just use Bluetooth headphones now anyway.
This ain't good news for Huawei or possibly anyone who has one.
