We've got too many plodding midfielders, and too few capable centrebacks, so Lucas' conversion should probably be made permanent. Likewise for James Milner who's far better on the left wing than the right.

No, it's only the FA Cup runner up who goes into it. If City finish in the top four, it means the team in 6th place now go into the UEFA Cup.

Still, the point stands. We should aim to finish eighth before we wind up having to start the season in fucking July again.

Let’s not go overboard. They had still a few millions on the pitch from De Gea to the midfield. They spent a lot on Depay, he is not a player from the academy.

Regardless of the five expensive players on show, they still had one recognised defender and a five year old up front, and his team (admittedly lacking expensive signings of its own) shit the bed. It's a laughable thing to say.

Jeet

Also same old Arsenal, always choking. LVG was trolling us with the amount of kids he was giving debuts too.

Does anybody else think that Noel Gallagher having the run of City is a bit third division? Mention your famous fans and that, and feel free to parade them at half-time; but Chelsea didn't have Jeremy Clarkson bouncing around the changing room when they won the league, because they act like a world-leading football club.

It belongs more in here than the Book Thread - I've started Alex 'Sir Alex Ferguson' Ferguson's memoirs. It's awfully weird, though I've not got very far in. He seems to be little more than a company man by the end of his career, and seems to have managed his players by sheer fear.

It also makes you realise just what an inexhaustible supply of Proper Football Men Scotland has, or used to have. Most of his anecdotes seem to involve a different person called Jimmy, all with the epithet 'He was a good man, and knew the game. He told it to you straight.'

Borthwick Jackson too.

Pen
29-02-2016, 06:00 PM
If even one of them makes it as a 'guaranteed' starter and another few will become often used squad players I'd say that's definitely an area where van Gaal has performed well. It's of course too early to tell whether Rashford and co. are any good in the long run, but Lingard will probably be a a decent enough squad player for United, Borthwick-Jackson has looked good and McNair will probably be the 4th choice centreback for the next decade. Varela and Perreira both look interesting, but they could well be just two new Rafael Possebon's, so at least there's something to be slightly excited about as not much else has fallen to place this season.

That's brilliant. Also, when looking for more information on Richardson's artwork I found this on his wikipedia:

Richardson became a Christian in 2007 and said, "I just want to praise Jesus Christ and go to heaven. That's all I care about".

That is just the most perfectly footballer way of explaining the divine.

UEFA has announced that this season’s Champions League finalists will receive just 20,000 tickets each for the San Siro showpiece. The home of AC Milan and Inter Milan has a capacity of 71,500 for the final of Europe’s premier club competition and will stage the match on Saturday, May 28.

UEFA confirmed each finalist would receive 20,000 tickets for the contest and a further 6,000 would be made available to the general public via UEFA’s official website, with tickets in four price categories ranging from 440 euros (£343) to 70 euros (£55). The governing body said the remaining 25,500 tickets would be designated to the “local organising committee, UEFA and national associations, commercial partners and broadcasters, and to serve the corporate hospitality programme”.

lol at that.

We're without Kante tonight which Java worry. I'd like to see Inler in his place but it will be King. Who I quite like, but I don't think is the right replacement. West Brom will probably sit back like Norwich did so we need a few more ideas to win tonight.

Thrilled to hear the corporate hospitality programme is being served well, grand news.

With their team bottom of the table, eight points from safety and only three Premier League wins all season, fans plan a protest at owner Randy Lerner.

Supporters intend to stage the 'Out the Door on '74' campaign in the next three Premier League home games against Everton, Tottenham and Chelsea.

My Villa fan relatives gave up their season tickets long ago. Surprised there's any left really, their inevitable doom has been even more obvious than Newcastle's.

There may be some truth to Barry Glendenning's theory that this run in for Leicester will actually be a tough, rather than easy, set of games. Their opponents will sit back looking for a point which plays against Leicester's strengths.

Blackburn beat Boro, great result for us. All season I've thought the top two will be a step too far, but it's looking like a possibility.

yes, jeet....because three points against west ham is standard form for the big clubs this season. Tottenham will have their work cut out, still have to face the mentally inferior arsenal which will potentially spell the end to one of clubs challenges, liverpool will end city's hopes tomorrow whilst leicester return to winning ways next week. Chelsea sneak into 6th.

So Man City are to drop just five points out of 36. Score 30 goals in twelve games when five of them are against Liverpool, Man United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Southampton whilst the league leaders and the leagues top goalscorers score just twelve more for the rest of the campaign?

Likely.

They have the players to do it if they can get their arses in gear. They're easily the best squad in the league; Liverpool are shit, Southampton have zero to play for already, and I'd fancy them in one off games vs the bigger three, so it would hardly be a massive surprise. And Leicester faltering wouldn't be the biggest shock in world football either.

If my predictions were to come true, the top four would be within two points before the last round Where second place Arsenal would probably win against Villa, meaning that Leicester would have o win at Stamford Bridge to win the league. City would also be likely to win against Swansea meaning that Leicester could drop all the way to fourth if Spurs were to win against Newcastle away. Norwich and Swansea would join Villa going down and Chelsea would end up 7th Behind United and West Ham.

So yeah, I guess that means Leicester or Arsenal for the title.

News breaks of a 'secret meeting' between the big five chief execs to discuss joining a Super League. This meeting was so secret that they were all photographed coming out of it and have briefed the press about it.

Posturing or not as far as 'Super League' is concerned, it's clear the big clubs are now determined to push for an end to meritocracy. The Leicester thing may have pushed them over the edge.

It's actually a similar dynamic to that. Same thing happening in other sports too, notably cricket and F1. The top teams see the revenue being spread more evenly than they would like across the competition, and seek to flex their muscles to claim the bigger share that they believe they deserve.

1992 worked because it revitalised a tainted product. This time they have (several) immensely popular products and basically want to squeeze more money out of it - this ends badly for them.
