Not really. They're only about 5g per 100g. Better than a lettuce, but no grown man is getting their protein needs from veg alone.

Not without eating an unholy amount, anyway. And even then, it's not the same quality of protein you get from meat.

The ones I buy are closer to seven. That's decent for veg but not replacing meat though, yeah. I suppose that's what Taz and Mahow were arguing about.

I dunno.

2 packs gets you to about 2500 calories a day, only saturated fat tips over the RDA at 108% from that, all vegetables and other good for you shit, 70p. Obviously processed as fuck but that's probably fine.

But yeah, they're not that bad actually. I dunno if they'd found a joblot of Christmas shit out back in a freezer that needed moving. There were PIBs too, but they weren't being discounted nearly as much sadly.

Other top frozen bargain at the moment seems to be the big bag of quorn mince for 75p, think it's 500g. Obviously a bit of an acquired taste/tasteless thing but if you're one of those PROTEIN people is 13g per 100 any good? Can't go wrong.

You'd be so low on PROTEIN from 2 packs. The RDA for protein is seriously low too.

13g per 100 is alright, especially for plant protein. Not good enough when compared to lean meat protein sources though, like chicken breast.

Plates was very good. It is quite amazing what they can do with vegan or plant-based food and the skill/effort that goes into it all is impressive. Would probably be better if they just did vegetarian and thus had access to dairy and eggs etc, but vegan's their thing I guess. The miso/chive bechamel was really good on the Feast of Farah dish. Bit disappointed not to get the ping pong balls one as that sounded interesting. The maitake mushroom thing was also tremendous.

'Kirk' came out and was very obliging of people who wanted awkward conversations with him or photos.

That said, if no one in your party is a vegan or a vegetarian then I would question why you would go [my wife is a veggie], other than as some sort of thought exercise or if you really do enjoy the skill of making these things. Personally, whilst the food was superb, I would have probably been happier with the same level of skill applied to not vegan stuff.

Also, whatever they use to substitute in for creaminess does have a quite distinctive coconuty taste so that comes through in a lot of the food.

Ł90 for 8 courses not too crippling.

I noticed the ryvita box in the kitchen, and I think I've come up with an excellent advertising slogan. "...that's why I'm a ryvita eater."

It's a bit 2004, but just imagine the advert - some dopey fat mum is like "only 50 calories in every piece...that's why I'm a ryvita eater"(with her happily showing how far she can pull forward the hem of her gigantic trousers and some scales in the background to imply successful dieting) some cool black dad like "it goes great with everything, that's why I'm a ryvita eater" and so on. I'm wasted in the world of lorries, honestly.

I assumed it must have already been done, but it's borderline Googlewhack, with my first (admittedly misspelled) attempt only generating some forum post from 2005 where someone says "no problem rivita eater, I love it up my shitter". Maybe that can be the third demographic to hit in the advert. I love it up my shitter...that's why I'm a ryvita eater.

Generally the things you order from the board are much better than the things that are out for you to point at. The way to do it is to have 1/2 Pintxos at a place with a glass of Txakoli then move on to the next place and just crawl round til you're full.

For the tortilla at Bar Nestor you have to go in the morning and get your name down in the book, then come back for it at lunch time. You can't phone and if you just turn up at lunch time you won't get any.

If you go to La Vina for the cheesecake a glass of the Pedro Ximenez to go with it. So fucking good.

Pintxos (as distinct from tapas) are the best way to eat food, I think. I've had this argument with my brother so many times, who is a meat and two veg man and basically starts quivering with rage if he sees a small amount of food rather than a large amount (despite this, I'm fatter than him). But sometimes you just have to admit when someone's perfected something, and the Basques have.

I've sought out the article so you don't have to, the following are confirmed therein as being woke fillings:

- Chicken
- Continental cheese (defined as anything except cheddar)
- Avocado, peppers, chillies or olives (these are labelled as 'upmarket extras')
- Mayonnaise

Cutting off your crusts is apparently woke as well. I'm with the golden oldies on that one. You shouldn't be allowed to eat bread if you don't eat the crust.

Waitrose is your only reasonable chance of a halfway decent avocado in an English supermarket, and even then the standard is pretty low.

Isn't there a woke alternative anyway using pea protein or something?

I don't mind the taste but can't be doing with the texture, it's like eating a baby's liver.

I like it when it's one of many ingredients on a burger or sandwich.

Even here most supermarkets sell shit avocados. Need to buy them in Walmart and they must come from Mexico. Not surprised many of you think that they are bad. Need to try the real thing.

Back in the day we had avocado and lime trees in the yard. They were so good.

I like avocado and eat it fairly often now (good fats and a lot of fibre).

I get them at a local "farm" shop (it's called farm fresh, no idea where the farm they get their stuff is from) and even then they can be a bit hit or miss.

I've tested loads and they've felt and looked perfect in store and when I go to eat them it's a lottery whether they're actually good or over ripe with brown flesh.

Never had a "proper" avocado that Pepe has had and I imagine the ones I get are still miles behind them.

The green skinned 'fuerte' ones are miles better than the hass ones, imo, but sadly the latter seem to be almost ubiquitous in supermarkets

By definition doesn't this make a Coronation Chicken Sandwich the definition of woke. A dish made for the Queen.

Don't think they were putting it in sandwiches back in 1953. It was the wokerati that did that because they were too fancy-dan for jam and ham.

I was expecting them to be dead against brown bread.

Combining the inventions of Lord Sandwich with a Dish for the Queen?

The Far Right now love the Jews and the LGBTQ community are now pro-Muslim. Up is down and left is right. It's pointless trying to rationalise anything.

Even the same foods can have different connotations. I'm thinking a fish finger sandwich I could make now from the freezer section at Aldi versus a woke fish finger sandwich served for Ł17.95 with tartare sauce and pea puree in the gourmet pub up the road.

No one is safe.

Aldi was founded by 2 Nazi soldiers the year after the war ended. Let him eat his far right sandwich in peace.

There's a new Aldi here and everyone seems to be losing their minds but, having ventured in today, it's shit. More expensive than the neighbouring Sainsbury's for most things and nowhere near the curious foreign offerings, or value, or feeling of being on the precipice of societal breakdown of Lidl. Boo!

I looked up Lidl's founder too and his surname is Schwarz, so I thought we had a Jew, but no. Just a boring Christian. Stick your fish fingers up your arse, lad.
