Today I learnt that the famous clip of Watford v Leicester where Knockeart dives for the pen, misses and then Watford go and score. Well, Kane was on field for Leicester. Obviously knew he played for them, didn't realise he was on the pitch for that. Fascinating stuff.

From what I remember, his Chelsea formation should suit England. Just need to get chilwell on the inhalers to play that hybrid wing back /wing forward role him and alonso had nailed.

Atleast this way we see if there was any truth in Southgate claiming that he tells the players to attack and they just don't listen. Because if the same happens under Tuchel it's a fairly safe bet that it really is the players.

Much better record in cups than leagues, donned Josep Guardiola senseless in the 2021 final. I'm backing him. Either way, it's been too long since England had an interesting manager. Last one probably Sven, if you don't count Large Sam.

Yep, can't see any other explanation that makes sense. As you say I'd have rather had the other German, but at least we've avoided any of the English wank we could have appointed and if he's shit we can just sack him without any of that project building wank getting in the way that afforded Southgate two tournaments too many.

Shindig
15-10-2024, 09:59 PM
That and Southgate getting as far as he did has heightened the stakes. They wouldn't chance this if England weren't on the precipice of winning something. It's not on the level of chasing Scolari, but I'm getting those vibes.

I'd hardly been paying attention assuming we were going to cruise Nations League B Group 3 or whatever we're in, so imagine my surprise when I looked at the table and we're right up against it and have to win in Greece to go back to league A. Quite up for a proper England away tie actually, let's make it mean something, blue smoke everywhere, hordes of nasty forrin fans with megaphones, flaming motorbikes flying off the stand, bring it on.

Takes over in January.

I feel for England that he's about the best they could have done. Of course there may be better managers out there, but the we want Guardiola/Klopp brigade are daft if they genuinely thought that would ever happen.

Mourinho would have been interesting to see what Tournament Football he could produce, but I don't see how they could have got better than Tuchel really.

igor_balis

Mourinho would have been a good move a few years ago when the team was a lot worse and he was still a proper manager

Rovers play in a Celtic type shirt, not a hint of red.

Rovers and Shelbourne used to be from the same area of Dublin long ago but have long relocated since, rovers more than most. Still called the Ringsend derby even though they're on opposite ends of the city now. Not rivals really, Pats and Shels is pure hatred, stems from the early 2000's.

To be fair, I've got into the habit of going onto club forums when managerial changes happen, and West Ham fans were all seething when Lopetegui got the job. Not sure which legend of the game they imagined was going to give it all up to head down the Mile End Road clicking his heels with a portion of jellied eels in one hand and an overpriced flat cap in the other, but the sentiment was there.

Gray Fox
19-10-2024, 02:57 PM
De Ligt gets a nasty cut, looks like stitches are needed. United keep trying to send him on patched up to see out to HT. The cut keeps bleeding so the ref has ordered him back off. This has happened 3 times. On the third time he orders De Ligt off they concede from a corner.

United bench has imploded with seethe.

Jimmy Floyd
19-10-2024, 03:10 PM
They need to get a grip. If the referee isn't happy that he's bleeding from a head wound then either you take him off and play with ten until you sort him out, or you send on a substitute. Your problem, not the referee's.

Ten Hag will be little-mourned here when he goes back to Holland.

Jimmy Floyd

One of the things I've noticed in this half, which has been an alright one for us even though Liverpool are probably going to win, is that the Anfield crowd are absolutely fucking terrified of Cole Palmer. I can't even explain why, it's just something you can tell after watching football for 25 years. He's not even done anything in this half but there's a huge silence when the ball goes near him and a massive cheer if he gives it away.

Without having carefully scrutinised the Saliba one, the ball to Jota looked like it was heading more towards the corner than towards the goal. 75 yards out with mistake-free titan of the cover Levi Colwill on the scene, don't think you can say it was a red. We should probably aim to have central defenders who don't resemble a milk float, though, if we're going to set said line at said distance from the onion bag.

If the Saliba one was a straight Red, fair enough. Given one of the rule clauses is distance to goal, and the ref had a clear view when he gave a yellow, not sure why he was called to the screen. Sure the audio would be interesting.

Gray Fox
22-10-2024, 11:53 PM
It being the first time the non-FM playing world is being introduced to the format, nobody has any idea if they're doing well or not. Unless of course you're just winning your games. I do think this format is better overall, but the games bleeding over into January is not the one.

Sure the audio would be interesting.

I don't know any valid reason at all we cannot hear the audio, when the commentary team are allowed in on it. There's been two very big calls over the last couple of weeks that have seen the ref invited to the monitor because the VAR doesn't agree with him. One result was changed and the other not. Not having the process be completely transparent just invites suspicion.

Real Madrid are ridiculous mentality monsters (sorry for that phrase). I'm surprised by how good Vinicius Jr actually has become, a brilliant attacking winger.

Got to feel the wheels are going to come off the Slotmobile at some point. Nice to see both Red Bull teams languishing on nil points. Bayern also turning their early big win into just being in the top 24 is good going, almost as if they have appointed a complete chancer of a manager.

1 goal against the three Premier League teams at the top. Someone check on Senor Tebas.

2 for win, 1 for draw, 0 for loss. All the same regardless of competition. You then get a bonus lot of points based on which competition you're in. For example 1st in the UCL group gets 12 points, UL gets 6 and then UEL gets 4.

It was strange the whole West Ham situation and him in the summer. You wonder why they didn’t go for him. Plus he was definitely after the Liverpool job by all accounts as well. I don’t know much about him but from what I read about him when the Liverpool rumours were out there it seemed like a bit of a toss-up between him and Slot but am I right in thinking he’s been pretty wedded to playing 3 at the back?

Would potentially suit United seeing as their full backs are shite anyway and the centre-halves aren’t much better. Whoever comes in should be able to make them a bit better than Ten Hag has done just by getting them to play to the sum of their parts. But, the biggest issue with them is they don’t seem to have any real pace or physicality in the team especially in central midfield until they fix that the best teams will just keep running over them.
