5 second penalty for a false start makes me think that anyone at the sharp end would be better off just doing that rather than sitting in filthy air for the first stint, as Brundle has just pointed out.

Ben
27-10-2024, 08:18 PM
Yeah that’s a ridiculous penalty. I’d just be scything up the inside on the fourth red, then taking the hit. Granted it’ll only happen once before they close the loophole but that’s a pretty fucking massive one.

Waffdon
27-10-2024, 08:21 PM
wtf is that Ferrari on the straight. Rocket fuel

Adramelch
27-10-2024, 08:21 PM
That got spicy real fast.

Gray Fox
27-10-2024, 08:22 PM
The penny is beginning to drop for Lando.

He is not your best mate when he's in the car.

niko_cee
27-10-2024, 08:22 PM
:D

Verstappen is a maniac.

Adramelch
27-10-2024, 08:23 PM
That second one especially was outrageous.

Waffdon
27-10-2024, 08:24 PM
Verstappen doing what he needs to do there clearly

Ben
27-10-2024, 08:24 PM
If this isn’t a penalty for Verstappen then they’re 100% scared of Horner.

niko_cee
27-10-2024, 08:25 PM
So big brain move for Norris is to not accept the place back then?

Shades of Schumacher black flag territory really. Something needs to be done.

niko_cee
27-10-2024, 08:26 PM
He gets done for track limits as well?

Waffdon
27-10-2024, 08:27 PM
Surely track limits gets removed if they person forcing you off gets a penalty?

Waffdon
27-10-2024, 08:28 PM
The second incident is mental

I wouldn’t be shocked if Verstappen tries to just end Norris’ race now

Gray Fox
27-10-2024, 08:30 PM
Max is making the message clear. You Lando, are not getting by, no matter what.

niko_cee
27-10-2024, 08:32 PM
Yeah, just wait for the pit stop. He will take him off.

Ben
27-10-2024, 08:35 PM
Oh boy. :D

Gray Fox
27-10-2024, 08:35 PM
Heads have gone across the grid.

niko_cee
27-10-2024, 08:36 PM
Sergio about to get told to bin it and bring out the safety car. Or one of the minions.

Gray Fox
27-10-2024, 08:37 PM
Yeah from one side or the other, there's going to be some safety car shenanigans here.

Adramelch
27-10-2024, 08:38 PM
Sergio about to get told to bin it and bring out the safety car. Or one of the minions.

Not sure if he even has to be told to be honest, he's doing his best already.

Sir Andy Mahowry
27-10-2024, 08:38 PM
Can't watch but Maxipad getting two penalties

niko_cee
27-10-2024, 08:39 PM
No one wants to hear the Russell reaction, give me the Lewis reaction.

Waffdon
27-10-2024, 08:39 PM
Lando finishing 3rd will still do nothing to the championship. He could do with just pushing the the throttle and getting past Verstappen otherwise he won’t have a chance at the Ferraris

Ben
27-10-2024, 08:40 PM
Ocon being behind the two Saubers is an effort. He’s completely thrown the towel in with this outfit.

Adramelch
27-10-2024, 08:40 PM
I am not sure after this and last race he'll be the most confident in getting past Verstappen though.

niko_cee
27-10-2024, 08:41 PM
Here we go, crash time.

Adramelch
27-10-2024, 08:51 PM
Realistically Norris just isn't winning the championship, so I wonder if it's time for McLaren to start planning their strat around not losing the Constructors' to Ferrari.

Waffdon
27-10-2024, 08:53 PM
I mean Verstappen is going to get p7 here at a minimum so I’m not even sure this penalty was the end of the world. His work was done when he made Leclerc get ahead of Norris and put Sainz miles clear

Waffdon
27-10-2024, 08:57 PM
Scrap that he’s probably finishing ahead of Hamilton as well here

Shindig
27-10-2024, 08:57 PM
The play for Norris should be trying to get Verstappen a race ban on his license.

niko_cee
27-10-2024, 09:16 PM
Watch the Mercs take each other out now Ferrari style.

Verstappen's tyres are fucked but I guess he's just planning to hold 6th/7th.

Waffdon
27-10-2024, 09:16 PM
I’d be 2 stopping if I were McLaren here. They have a free stop at this point, nothing to lose

niko_cee
27-10-2024, 09:19 PM
They'll go for the fastest lap stop and lose a tyre or something.

niko_cee
27-10-2024, 09:40 PM
I see Lawson's been to the Max Verstappen school of leaving space on the outside.

Waffdon
27-10-2024, 09:43 PM
How slow is Piastri compared to Norris? The bloke has much fresher tyres and Norris is still pumping in fastest laps

Waffdon
27-10-2024, 09:46 PM
Based off of the hard tyre runs, Norris probably wins that at a canter if he’s not forced off the track and put miles behind the Ferraris

Adramelch
27-10-2024, 09:48 PM
All said and done though, you'd argue Verstappen ends up 3rd without the penalties, so the gap would have been the same.

niko_cee
27-10-2024, 09:50 PM
I dunno, that car looked shite on the hards after about 10 laps.

niko_cee
27-10-2024, 09:54 PM
Norris is too much media training. Bleurgh.

What a fucking don.

Jimmy Floyd
27-10-2024, 10:22 PM
Schumacher was given a 2-race ban in 1994 for a lot less than what Max has been up to.

5 seconds for jumping the start, give me strength. Should be a stop-go.

Pepe
27-10-2024, 10:31 PM
Current rules and enforcement of said rules in F1 is comically bad. I am sure any local indoor karting facility has better rules.

Jimmy Floyd
27-10-2024, 10:39 PM
The mantra seems to be punish every little transgression, but give ridiculously light punishments for everything. Just encourages them all to act like whiny little boys.

Verstappen is dirty as hell and knows what he's doing. Senna was dirty but sparingly. Schumacher (M) was similar to Max. The thing these three share is a complete and unshakeable belief in their own untouchability. I think Senna's was a religious belief, with the others it's just incredible levels of arrogance. You go through all the other greats from Fangio to Clark, Stewart, Lauda, Prost and even to Alonso, Vettel and Hamilton and all of these had notable occasions when they stepped back and stepped off and compromised for the safety of others and general sense of the sport. With the above three there was/is no compromise. It's something that will catch up with Max at some point. It caught up with the others.

Shindig
27-10-2024, 10:42 PM
Yeah, jump starts typically get a drive through, don't they?

Jimmy Floyd
27-10-2024, 10:44 PM
I know that stop-go and drive through are still on the hypothetical sanctions list but I have no idea when the last one was actually given. Years ago, probably. Everything is 5 seconds apparently. Max will have known this and deliberately jumped the start because it's worth it not to end up in 4th behind faster cars where the field spread alone will do you 5 seconds in a few laps anyway.

Jump starts used to be stop-go in the good old days.

Gray Fox
27-10-2024, 11:23 PM
The simple equation for Max right now is easy.

I will win, or we will not finish. Your choice.

Late 90's/early 00's Schumacher is indeed a good comparison. Unlike Senna where it all felt very based on emotion, with those two it feels very calculated after looking at how the rule book works.

Now if the two drivers were swapped in position, it would likely all be different.

Shindig
27-10-2024, 11:48 PM
I don't even think Verstappen has to be this fighty. He's still got the points advantage and Ferrari will eat into Norris more than him.

Ben
28-10-2024, 08:59 AM
47 point swing in 4 races is way too much unfortunately. The spiciness came too late. Or rather it came at the right time but Norris didn't capitalise enough leading up to this. The deficit was 8 points per race not long back, now it's 12.

Lawson though.

Jimmy Floyd
28-10-2024, 09:00 AM
Perez was an absolute cunt diving into whatever corner it was when there was clearly no space, so deserved every middle finger in the book. Spanish-speaking F1 twitter taking it with all their usual cool-headed grace I see.

Ben
28-10-2024, 09:02 AM
It'll be tremendous when Lawson takes his seat too.

Shindig

Annoyingly Verstappen's 2 penalty points expire in Vegas. A race ban looks out of the question.

Watching the footage onboard Max is madness. His intent is too hang you out to dry, every time. He nearly crashed into the back of Sainz twice trying to defend from Lando.

Ben
28-10-2024, 11:34 AM
It used to be a reward of the bravest to go around the outside. I think we're in danger of flipping the overtaking laws upside down, where drivers will just try to get their nose ahead at the apex, then claim that they have to be given room on the exit.
– Christian Horner

:D

Jimmy Floyd
28-10-2024, 11:48 AM
If you can get ahead at the apex on the outside and then make the corner within track limits, then you absolutely should be given room on the exit. It would be absolute insanity if it were otherwise.

Pepe
28-10-2024, 01:15 PM
Even if you are only side by side, you should be given room. This is only a discussion because of stupid rules and modern track design.

Pepe
28-10-2024, 01:19 PM
My big brain solution after about a minute of thought:

Cars should be remotely capped at 20% throttle every time they are outside of the track limits.

Clunge
28-10-2024, 02:11 PM
Or just go back to tracks that bite. Artificially dampened astro beyond all curbs, quickly followed by gravel and then a lava pit.

Ben
28-10-2024, 02:19 PM
I'm a big fan of gravel/grass immediately outside the kerbs but it does nothing for those who just leave their steering wheel open and gently direct their opponent into said trap if they dare try an overtake. A 10 second penalty sounds pretty great if my rival is beached.

The FIA need to get their shit together pronto with the penalty system. Bring back stop and go penalties.

Jimmy Floyd
29-10-2024, 08:41 PM
There's already a film called Senna. At least call it Ayrton.

One of the more interesting things about him (I find the driver a lot more compelling than the man) was that his family shut his girlfriend/fiancee out of the funeral in favour of someone they had deemed more suitable. Catholic weirdos r us.

Shindig
29-10-2024, 08:58 PM
I often wonder how he'd be perceived if he didn't die at Imola. He gets mythologised so much that it's exhausting. Jim Clark is revered but not in the same bizarre way.

Pepe

Didn't he travel around with some sort of witch?

5 grid place penalty for Verstappen this weekend for taking a new ICE.

Not sure it will make a difference at a wet Interlagos. Top 6 at best again.

Ben
31-10-2024, 06:42 PM
I’ve seen he might need more components and it’s a back of the grid job if so.

Last chance for Norris. He’s got to win and hope Verstappen can’t crack the top 6. Unlikely.

Jimmy Floyd
31-10-2024, 06:42 PM
Can't wait for him to park it on the left going down the main straight every time and then hold position until pushing the person off at the exit of Subida do Lago. Hopefully someone Schumachers him into the pit wall.

Isn't there a sprint at this one? Lando needs to max that out as well.

Ben
01-11-2024, 03:31 PM
Magnussen has the shits so Bearman is in for the weekend.

Jimmy Floyd
01-11-2024, 03:54 PM
Mercedes will both retire I think unless something changes dramatically, they seem to be rattling their drivers to pieces. Was the same in Austin as I recall.

Jimmy Floyd
01-11-2024, 06:29 PM
Say it every year but god I fucking love this track. Best on the calendar bar fucking none.

Pepe
01-11-2024, 06:34 PM
If the F1 calendar was just 20 races in Interlagos, I would not complain.

Jimmy Floyd
01-11-2024, 06:37 PM
British GP should be at Brands Hatch. Bring back Jerez, go to Laguna Seca, go to Portimao. Diddy little places with massive elevation change. The gold standard. Who gives a fuck about facilities.

Gray Fox
01-11-2024, 06:40 PM
I worry this trend of racing based on location of the track and not quality of the track will see the end of Interlagos at some point. Until then I'll enjoy it.

Pepe
01-11-2024, 06:41 PM
I would take all of those. If we can do Watkins Glen or Road Atlanta instead of Laguna Seca, even better.

Pepe
01-11-2024, 06:42 PM
I worry this trend of racing based on location of the track and not quality of the track will see the end of Interlagos at some point. Until then I'll enjoy it.

It's in big-ass Sao Paulo, so I hope its safe. Don't scare us like that.

Jimmy Floyd
01-11-2024, 06:45 PM
They've tried hard to get rid of Interlagos because of all the traffic and robberies, but Rio could never get its shit together so here we still are.

God knows how Hungary have managed to stay on the calendar for 40 years, but props to them as well. I love anywhere with a non-glossy finish. Road Atlanta would be a good one actually. Qatar and Abu Dhabi coming up

Pepe
01-11-2024, 06:47 PM
Thinking of it, the three F1 races in the US are an absolute disgrace.

Gray Fox
01-11-2024, 06:48 PM
It's in big-ass Sao Paulo, so I hope its safe. Don't scare us like that.

It's not the glitz and glam that Liberty covets though. Miami, Madrid, Qatar, Vegas, Abu Dhabi and you could probably rope Monaco in here if it didnt have the prestige. All quite bad tracks for racing these cars, but a lot of money changed hands so we move.

Jimmy Floyd
01-11-2024, 06:53 PM
Thinking of it, the three F1 races in the US are an absolute disgrace.

I think Las Vegas might be the least objectionable of the three, which says a lot.

O'Norris looking racey here. If he gets a few points off Max in the sprint it could liven things up a bit.

Gray Fox
01-11-2024, 07:01 PM

Checo has a lot of bloopers this year but that one is right up there.

niko_cee
01-11-2024, 08:59 PM
God knows how Hungary have managed to stay on the calendar for 40 years

Presumably through biblical amounts of corruption, which also sees Interlagos safe as houses, the shiny new money's good and all, but nothing trumps the envelope [or coal sack] slipped under the table.

Waffdon
02-11-2024, 01:02 AM
3/1 for Piastri in the sprint is quite tasty. I don’t think team orders will come into play at all over the sake of a point

Jimmy Floyd
02-11-2024, 08:20 AM
I'm fairly sure if they're 1-2 with a lap to go and clear of third then they'll swap. Key is for Lando to get away well.

Strange to hear Hamilton saying he's not really bothered about where he qualified. I guess he had to check out at some point.

I hope Ferrari give him a good car for the new year though. They've somehow got my two favourite drivers into the team I like the least so it should be something to behold.

They've fucked this again.

No need to swap yet.

Ben
02-11-2024, 02:19 PM
No need to swap yet.

Disagree. If they were more bothered about Norris winning than the 1-2, then Piastri lets him by on lap 1, turn 4 and he scampers off while Piastri plays roadblock.

But it looks like Piastri has way more pace than Norris anyway so he needs to stop crying on the radio and get his foot down. Leclerc and Verstappen wouldn't be this close if Piastri was the sole reason for Norris' pace.

Jimmy Floyd
02-11-2024, 02:22 PM
They're managing the DRS, if they let Lando through early they'd lose constructors' points without DRS to those behind.

Lando had a couple of very poor sector 2s which exposed him a couple of times but got away with it.

Ben
02-11-2024, 02:25 PM
Yeah exactly. I think McLaren realise Norris winning the championship is such a long shot that they're entirely focused on the 1-2.

Shindig
02-11-2024, 02:25 PM
They've managed nowt. :D

Jimmy Floyd
02-11-2024, 02:26 PM
The Ferrari suddenly becoming a Fiat Punto has livened the weekend up a bit.

Piastri is simply the faster driver here, I wouldn't even be interested in switching them if I were Zak Brown.

John Arne
02-11-2024, 02:26 PM
Shocked they haven't swapped. Last lap switch won't be possible when Verstappen goes past Norriss shortly. McLaren screwed him again.

Jimmy Floyd
02-11-2024, 02:28 PM
Think you're all overestimating how important the drivers' title is to them.

Ben
02-11-2024, 02:29 PM
Finally some good strategy pulling off the switch before a potential safety car.

Adramelch
02-11-2024, 02:30 PM
They dun fucked it up. Why didn't they swap when Verstappen was 2 seconds away?

Edit: Never mind I guess. :D

Pack of fannies. What’s the point in wet tyres if the rules mandate they have to build cruise liner size cars so it’s unsafe anytime we get a good shower?

There isn't. The entire rules are in hoc to the stupid bogus engine tech.

Having watched the breakdown, Verstappen was in 10th when the yellow flag occurred. Two seconds later Leclerc knocked him down to 11th.

It’s impossible to red flag within 2 seconds so I’m not really sure what the crying is all about. Their point about should have red flagged immediately is also invalid because they would not even have time to put a full lap in with 75 seconds to go.

Reprimand for Norris, 10 seconds for Verstappen for being a grass.
