How can that goal be disallowed

It also should be another red card

Bernanke

Romero racking up multiple reds.

Spoonsky
06-11-2023, 08:31 PM
This is just incredible.

Spikey M

If they don't give the goal, and also don't give the penalty I think Jimmy is getting sectioned.

Jimmy Floyd
06-11-2023, 08:31 PM
Romero should be sent off twice now. Absolutely laughable game.

Waffdon
06-11-2023, 08:32 PM
How can you give it offside. He’s on the edge of the fucking box

Waffdon
06-11-2023, 08:33 PM
He won’t give the penalty either.

Palmer will miss it anyway

Ben
06-11-2023, 08:33 PM
We're looking at a 10:30pm finish time if VAR keeps carrying on like this.

Jimmy Floyd
06-11-2023, 08:33 PM
The penalty will be saved and we will lose 6-0, but the main thing is this Argie cunt needs to be having a holiday on January.

igor_balis
06-11-2023, 08:34 PM
Romero is a fucking idiot.

igor_balis
06-11-2023, 08:37 PM
Spurs fans are spastics for booing as well, I never understood how bias can make fans so blind. I'd notice it at West Brom games where everyone would be booing about our player getting rightly sent off for a monstrous foul, and I wouldn't get it. Maybe some people really can't be passionate without being irrational.

Ben
06-11-2023, 08:37 PM
Jackson giving it large to the fans again. :D

Waffdon

If Chelsea don’t win this now send Poch packing.

Gallacher's socks are irritating the piss out of me.

Jimmy Floyd
06-11-2023, 08:39 PM
It almost doesn't matter what happens from here. We have mentally broken Tottenham Hotspur and their season ends here, even if they win 5-1.

Ben
06-11-2023, 08:40 PM
What a completely mental game already. How Spurs have thrown this away is unbelievable. Similarly, if Chelsea manage to throw it away now then they deserve to be relegated.

Foe
06-11-2023, 08:41 PM
That Romero challenge isn’t a foul or a red.

We had loads of “follow through” reds a few season ago and they realised it was bollocks and backtracked, why have we reverted?

Udogie was way worse as horrendous technique for a tackle. Romero has kicked the ball.

Waffdon
06-11-2023, 08:41 PM
Sterling could get in behind here whenever he wants if Chelsea time the pass

The Udogie one was indeed way worse which makes their decision not to give a red for that utterly mental.

Jesus christ.

This is beautiful. They’re all going down. Chelsea should be sticking 5 past these cunts now

Any follow through can be dangerous.

I think you've clearly got some weird obsession with this rule, like some oddball local single party candidate and it's clouding your judgement. Did you get kicked out of a club for shitting yourself or something?

Waffdon
06-11-2023, 08:49 PM
Spurs currently have the worst back 4 possible for defending and have 10 men.

Utter embarrassment if this isn’t a comfortable win

Don
06-11-2023, 08:50 PM
Load up on the handicaps boys. -1 is enough for me.

Jimmy Floyd
06-11-2023, 08:50 PM
Niko's point about lack of adaptability coming home to roost here as they maintain their insane defensive line.

Ben
06-11-2023, 08:53 PM
Chelsea could start to turn around their season here. Clout Spurs here and get themselves some confidence going into this difficult run. Alas, they'll stumble to a 2-1 win and precede to get humiliated by City next week.

Spikey M
06-11-2023, 08:53 PM
Depth is their problem and it was always going to be when you have one back up centre back, and that centre back is Eric Fucking Dier.

I was on the end of plenty and have seen plenty. Red cards should be less frequent than they are, and kicking the ball should not result in a red. I’d need to rewind it, but I’m pretty sure he side footed the ball. Udogie went in with his studs up and lunged, that’s not at all natural and definitely dangerous.

Udogie red, Romero not.

niko_cee
06-11-2023, 08:56 PM
Obvious dive by Sterling there, but if the ref had given it VAR wouldn't have overturned it as there was a fleeting thigh brush.

I don't think I've ever been less interested in football than in the current zeitgeist.

Waffdon
06-11-2023, 08:57 PM
This is still utterly pathetic from Chelsea. They’re gonna end up getting a man sent off themselves.

Do they not see the space in behind? So fucking bad

Waffdon
06-11-2023, 08:59 PM
What is Neville on about? James literally doesn’t even touch him

niko_cee
06-11-2023, 08:59 PM
Also, who was that guy who blagged his was into the Premier League claiming to be George Weah's cousin or somesuch? Jackson is approaching that level of fraud.

Yeah, Neville's head has fully gone. You'd struggle to give a yellow for that on a bad day.

Ben
06-11-2023, 08:59 PM
Chelsea trying not win. Pochettino will have to make five subs at half time to get all the hotheads off the park.

Jimmy Floyd

22 (now 21) steamhead morons going for each other out of pure narcissism and only getting hurt. It's the football of the times.

Don

Mudryk should have some fun here. Just imagine how much greater a spectacle this would have been without the 10 mins of VAR spread across 4(?) stoppages.

Waffdon

I presume Spurs will drop very deep since Chelsea cannot break anyone down for the life of them.

7om
06-11-2023, 09:16 PM
One of the most mental halves of football I’ve seen. Can’t believe they escaped the Udogie and Romero red cards and nobody had the brains to tell everyone to calm down and stop lunging in. Spurs deserve everything they’re potentially going to get in the second half.

niko_cee
06-11-2023, 09:16 PM
Jackson should have got to that first.

Bernanke
06-11-2023, 09:30 PM

Jimmy Floyd
06-11-2023, 09:30 PM
How has he not turned it into a deep back seven and us playing in front of it? Is he simple? Do they not teach maths in Australia?

Waffdon
06-11-2023, 09:31 PM
If spurs weren’t full of utter head cases they’d be about 5-0 up. This is such a bad performance by Chelsea. They don’t even care

Waffdon
06-11-2023, 09:33 PM
Sterling getting caught by Hojberg. Get in the fucking bin

Jimmy Floyd

Sterling and Jackson are so cowardly in these keeper challenges. Should win the lot.

Gammons unable to compute innovation. Torn between wanting Spurs to cling on and wanting to see a 99th min OG off Son's little 2 inch penis.

igor_balis
06-11-2023, 09:34 PM
Maybe he just thinks with Chelsea's awful finishing and decision making they may as well keep playing on the front foot and not just let them pass it around the edge of the box for half an hour. It's fun to watch anyway

Waffdon
06-11-2023, 09:35 PM
Why do they keep overhitting the passes in behind? Utterly bizarre at this point

06-11-2023, 09:37 PM
I can’t tell you how fucking terrible this is. It literally takes a simple give and go. Spurs are trying to concede at this point

Jimmy Floyd
06-11-2023, 09:40 PM
This is only possible because Jackson is the worst player of all time.

7om
06-11-2023, 09:40 PM

Max Power
06-11-2023, 09:43 PM

Waffdon

I'm still largely in favour of var as a concept, but it's quite amazing how badly it's implemented in the premier league.

I think the fundamental problem with it when I compare it to other sports is that football's just too fast and contentious calls happen far too often for var to be anything other than an annoyance, which is just exacerbated by pace of the Premier League.

Jimmy Floyd
06-11-2023, 09:58 PM
You know, Raheem Sterling is the worst. This guy is supposed to be an experienced 70 cap international, has won it all etc and just isn't bright enough to play football properly in these circumstances.

Waffdon
06-11-2023, 09:59 PM
Chelsea deserve a three point deduction for this performance.

It’s the worst performance I think I have ever seen. Child’s play stuff. Got a whole half to play the ball into and keep passing it straight to the keeper.

I missed the second half but the narrative on Twitter I'm seeing is completely mental. Spurs went down to 9 men with two red cards for players that should have been sent off 20 minutes earlier than they were, lost 4-1 and people are applauding them for 'the fight they showed'?

1721651323152499034

Losing 4-1 is a moral victory? Not to somehow about Arsenal but Gary Neville would banter Arsenal into another sport if this happened surely?

Waffdon
06-11-2023, 10:25 PM
Yeah I don’t really understand the Spurs narrative. They were fucking horrendous. Chelsea just couldn’t pass a ball very well. They had 4 goals chalked off in the game, scored 4 goals and missed countless sitters.

A Spurs mate (which regrettably I have a couple of) has just texted me seething at Michael Oliver and saying they were robbed. I think the space-time continuum has malfunctioned.

Yeah, as I mentioned above, I really don't understand why so many fans are so bad at judging things even remotely objectively. Maybe I'm a soulless robot, or just a smarmy dickhead who gets off on being contrary (the latter is obviously true to an extent), but I went to about 100 West Brom games as a season ticket holder, and was as Baggies mad as anyone. Losses could ruin entire weeks. Yet I reckon I only left games feeling like we were properly robbed by officials a handful of times, and even then with the understanding they largely even themselves out and the odd game like that is inevitable. I understand that you can be tempted to think every tackle against you is a foul and every tackle your team makes is fine IN THE MOMENT, but it always makes me laugh when if a team loses a game and they had a penalty given against them/a player of theirs sent off, they almost always boo the officials at full time. Or the classic where one of your players gets sent off for brutally assaulting one of their players, and the first time one of their lot gets a booking you sarcastically cheer the referee.

It would be one thing if this was just all part of the pantomime of it all, but I do honestly reckon a lot of fans actually are this myopic about their own team. Just seems weird to me.

As someone who goes to a few games at the Hawthorns a year, it's hard to come away from a game thinking you've been robbed because at the end of the day you're just happy to have been in the presence of the anthropomorphised Combi-Boiler for 90 minutes.

I'm preparing a 10,000 word doctoral thesis on what I've probably posted here before in short form, which is that football and rugby league fans NEED to scream at referees regardless of the merits of doing so, because they're working class games which provide a rare outlet for people to send consequence-free rage against the power structures that frustrate their lives, whereas rugby union and cricket respect the referees/umpires, sometimes in a performatively over-the-top fashion, because they're middle class games watched by people for whom the power structures work very nicely thank you.

I missed the second half but the narrative on Twitter I'm seeing is completely mental. Spurs went down to 9 men with two red cards for players that should have been sent off 20 minutes earlier than they were, lost 4-1 and people are applauding them for 'the fight they showed'?

Losing 4-1 is a moral victory? Not to somehow about Arsenal but Gary Neville would banter Arsenal into another sport if this happened surely?

Completely agree with this. It's a proper losers mentality, which is somehow ingrained in the club it seems.

I almost back us to get something against them. Home non-defeats thus far have come against Luton (3-0), Arsenal (2-2) and Liverpool (1-1). Teams that come out, and Luton, give us half a squeak.

People going on about Postecoglou not complaining about the ref last night as well. He literally has nothing to complain about. Two potential red cards weren't given against them and the two that they got were absolute stonewallers. The goals that were disallowed were all correct as well. I think maybe the only call that maybe went against Spurs all night was the Reece James elbow although I'm not sure how hard he caught him, it could be a red or a yellow but you couldn't complain too much either way.

Soon the people playing this style will be the dinosaurs, and something else will be the innovation which will then take 5 years to filter through the whole game. Maybe it'll be overloading the flanks. Maybe it'll be the team positioning itself on the halfway line as seen last night with NFL style wide receivers trying to break through. Maybe people will be picked purely to sprint back from the offside trap with no intention of them ever touching the ball. Maybe someone will choose to play without a goalkeeper to get the extra man in the press. The march of progress is unstoppable.

Regarding the referee thing, it's a constant battle with Sunderland fans. The majority just think the standard is shite, which probably isn't far from the truth. I would always argue that the pace of the game and the scrutiny it now comes under makes refereeing a thankless and pretty much impossible job.

Many fans claim they just call for consistency, but are rather inconsistent in their judgements a lot of the time, and some fans are absolutely adamant that certain refs either hate us or come to Sunderland to show they're not intimidated by the big crowd/club. This was particularly evident during our League One days, whereas in the Premier League the refs were apparently always in favour of the big teams over little old Sunderland.

Slightly on topic, some are now firmly entrenched in the 'everything is being done to benefit the Saudis/Sky/Newcastle.'

Seems to be a 3-box-3 that's come into fashion, overloading the midfield with a full back whilst the other tucks in, allowing a 3-2-5 in attack and protecting yourself from a counter.

Gary Neville is firmly in bed with the Saudis, apparently. Fortunately I don't really listen to any of them. Carragher's views are roundly ignored on the Sunderland forum because he spat at someone so shouldn't be in his job. Females are only there to make the quota and Dan Sturridge was dressed as a bin liner or something so his views don't count.
