I expected Villa to be a bit more resolute than this. They’re not looking good at all yet and will probably need to score three to win.

Another 90 minutes of people sprinting in behind high lines and then botching cutbacks. How exciting.
The art of defending is lost.
VAR is a complete shambles. Took them three minutes to get to a decision the naked eye could see immediately.

Injury, offside, injury, VAR, offside, offside, injury. Fun sport, just endless enjoyment.
I think data tells you to push the margins of everything because that's where the 5% advantage is. Hamstrings, going into challenges, offside traps, drawing the press, everything.

I seem to recall this happening a lot to us during the first Klopp year.
I do reckon if we got to a point of stopping the clock when the ball goes out, this playstyle would be a lot more risky. There'd be a good extra 10-20 minutes of running in some games.
God help them by the end of January. It’s pretty non-stop until then. This will probably make the difference between Man City and the rest, what with Pep managing minutes since day one.

Mainoo with a tremendous clearance there.
This game is simmering nicely (as with most at Goodison Park). The atmosphere is gonna go ballistic if Everton get the next and with the likes of Garnacho, Shaw, Bruno, McT, cards aplenty
Turning into quite the dicking, this.
Everton might not score if they have all week. Absolute domination until they have to shoot.
Gray Fox
26-11-2023, 05:18 PM
Referee isn't helping with the crowd either.
How does Bruno the Rat get away with so much? I mean, all the referees must hate him so must be desperate to get him in the book but he always gets nine lives.
Today is possibly understandable because they probably don’t want to give Everton anything with all this seethe about but it’s seemingly every week.

26-11-2023, 05:43 PM
That's a cracking pen.
If Everton don't like the Premier League they are quite welcome to fuck off and play somewhere else.
I do kind of get it. They’re first to get fisted and their seethe is preempting Man City and Chelsea getting cop out punishments of a fine and suspended points deduction. With Man City especially, as a neutral you just can’t see the Premier League having the bottle to fuck them off into farmers leagues, which given Everton’s transgression of overspending Ł19m, is about equal punishment.
And like you said earlier, the Premier League is becoming this monotonous sequence of injuries, VAR and offsides. Everton always give us enjoyment on the weekly: 4-4-2, seethe and self-destruction. Does any neutral want to replace them with another high press bore like Leicester? Not me.
Rashford is comically bad at the moment.

A more fitting punishment in the rotation era would be to force someone to play the full 90 minutes for the next, say, 10 games. Can't sub him off, and if he's not fit, unlucky, you've got to play with ten.

MotD didn't really give it much coverage, but on the couple of angles they did show I had no idea what the Forest penalty was actually given for.

Gary O'Neill must have defecated in Stockley Park's mother's mouth.
Runs deeper than him, Wolves as a club must have done something as they've been getting shafted ever since the shitshow started blighting our collective existence.
The penalties were soft as shit but okay, you can argue for either but Fulham's favela rat getting away with a headbutt just because it was on some hardened gammon who didn't go down is disgraceful.
thommo
27-11-2023, 11:50 PM
I think you describing it as a headbutt is more disgraceful. Vinicius is (always) unnecessarily aggressive but he doesn't butt him whatsoever, he just stands up.
1729264654600270171
I appreciate his legs are indeed activating the muscles which result in his rising to his feet so I won't argue your claim that he is standing up. Not sure what relevance that has though.
FYI
"An aggressive and forceful thrust with the top of the head into the face or body of another person."
It's embarrassing that you need to go down and roll around in order for your opponent to get their deserved red card.
Spikey M
28-11-2023, 08:21 AM
This is the thing, they make "simulation" a bookable offence, but then if you don't exaggerate contact you're not going to get the decision. It's a headbutt, it doesn't matter if he's too soft to do it properly, it's still a red card.
Jimmy Floyd
28-11-2023, 08:33 AM
"You can send me flowers. You can ring me to apologise. You can do what you want but we should be on 22 points instead of 15. The difference between 22 points and 15 for the 1000s of supporters who follow this team around the country is huge. The difference between 22 and 15 on my reputation when you’re trying to build at a big club is irreparable."
Gary O'Neil giving himself away there. 'My reputation'. I assume he won't be sending refs the same thank you cards when those points inevitably come back later in the season.
To be fair to him he's been palming off all the VAR mistakes up until last night as "it'll get evened out eventually" but I think he's just got to breaking point with that penalty and non-red card. VAR have consistently shafted Wolves for a couple of years now, at what point for them does it ever turn around?
Jimmy Floyd
28-11-2023, 09:14 AM
They've just lost six or seven tosses of a coin, it can happen.
niko_cee
28-11-2023, 09:26 AM
Quite apt that in that video comparison the player going down like a sack of shit to get someone sent off is a Wolves player.
They have had the rough end of it though. Not just with Howard Webb Apologies™ either. Pretty sure they pioneered the ball travelling backwards but still offside corner routine against Liverpool in the first season of VAR and then they had that one last year in the FA Cup where the active/inactive deliberate/not deliberate ball playing nuances melted the VAR's brain against the same opponent and disallowed their likely winning goal.
Adramelch
28-11-2023, 09:39 AM
Vinicius is (always) unnecessarily aggressive but he doesn't butt him whatsoever, he just stands up.
That's almost akin to saying every headbutt is just a player moving towards another. He quite clearly makes a headbutt move (however soft) and to suggest otherwise is just biased.

This season is just a test run but there's still a ridiculous amount of positives. Tonight's result leaves us open to a Bellamy v Feyenoord-esque lastminute bonanza so lets fkn av it.
How has Dembele forged a career at three top European clubs? He seems to have absolutely nothing about him, aside from being kind of fast, but not fast enough to outsprint his full back. Countless bad touches, bad dribbles, miscontrols last night.
Meanwhile PSG bringing on the totally ineffective Asensio and Barcola while Xavi Simons is playing for Leipzig is hilarious.
niko_cee
29-11-2023, 09:30 AM
I don't know if funny is the word, but it is interesting that in the age of VAR domestic and European football appear to have developed quite starkly divergent interpretations of the handball rule [the UEFA one being point blank idiocy] in a manner not entirely dissimilar to how you used to get comments to the effect that "that wouldn't be a foul in the Premier League" when rank corruption was being doled out by some useless referee in a major European tie. Seems odd that UEFA didn't implement their own recommendation that appears to have been followed in England. That was clearly never a handball. Perhaps PSG see it as justice for the one they got shafted by against United a few years ago.

Bit niche this, but just been watching the World Cup final, and a few observations... the Beeb commentators were a bit rubbish... often mistaking players, and when France were awarded a penalty in the dying minutes of extra time, they just calmy announced that a free-kick was awarded... it took Jermain fucking Jenas to note that a pen had indeed been given. France also ended the game with 9 black players, a big win for colonialism.

Weighing up his options apparently.
Arsenal should sail off into a decent lead over the next month before it all comes crashing down in February and March again
Yep. Man City are the only team who have been managing player minutes all season already (nobody else has the luxury) and that will certainly bring it back to them after the Christmas fixture run kills off the rest.

Is this the wrong thread or do they literally use FIFA ratings in real life now?

I thought Sterling was more of an 85 this month, very harsh.

That tweet was embedded on the Prem sites article for POTM so it looks like they do.

Manchester City could face trial for their 115 Premier League charges for alleged financial breaches late next year.
The Daily Mail report that the Premier League and City have agreed a date at which they will face off in front of an independent panel.
It is claimed that the date for the showdown has been initially scheduled for the late autumn of 2024.
The report says a conclusion may not follow until the end of next season, which is when City manager Pep Guardiola's contract at the Etihad Stadium is due to expire.
The Premier League referred City to an independent commission in February over alleged rule breaches between 2009 and 2018.
City deny any breaches and said they “look forward to this matter being put to rest once and for all”.
Earlier this month, Everton were handed a 10-point deduction by an independent commission after being found to have breached the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules.
The Toffees are set to formally appeal against the punishment, which is the largest sanction in Premier League history.
Chelsea are being investigated by the Premier League over potential financial rule breaches between 2012 and 2019, when Roman Abramovich owned the club.
:happycry:
Wait, Harry Maguire is up for player of the month?

Brighton are far too dogmatic with this style of play. Need to learn when to just try and take some time out of the game. They've been playing themselves into all sorts of trouble for the past 5 minutes giving the ball away trying to flick it around the corner or springing too quickly into attack.

Yeah, quite lucky not to be behind really. Our defence is an absolute bombscare at times, though, so I can see us conceding a goal even from a subpar Brighton.

Right on cue. I think that's penalty number 6 we've given away (albeit many of them fairly soft) in 5 games.

Refs are absolutely allergic to giving Brighton penalties against AEK on the pitch, although that looked a bit soft.

That was quite bad from Ferguson there. He had all the time in the world to bury that.

He probably shouldn't still be on the pitch after that knacker with the pony tail tried to take his head off.

Kelleher set for a few weeks in the team at least. Hopefully he's remember to bring his hands along for the ride this time.

I know it's obviously terribly, terribly serious, and not at all a laughing matter, but this sounds quite funny:
Four police officers and police dogs were hurt in clashes with away fans, with one officer suffering concussion when he was hit by a flare.
The concussed officer's jacket caught fire after he was hit with a flare, but the jacket was removed quickly and he did not suffer burns.
The officer, sent by West Mercia Police to support the West Midlands force, was later taken to hospital with smoke inhalation after the smoke from the flare made it into his helmet.

I was confused as to why until I got to the last few words and then it hits you. :D
