Burnley and Newcastle should be fine. I said a while a go I think Brentford will be the 3rd to go down and still stand by that. Would be hilarious if it's Everton but I think at some point Lampard will see sense and sort them out enough to avoid the drop.

One thing I've always been wondering about xG is how it accounts for several good chances within the same play, but I am too lazy to actually look it up. Like could you get 2 xG within the same play even though it could only ever result in one goal?

I think so. I have vague memories of a saved penalty and follow up having a total xG of well over 1.

He's a good manager.

Back from Madrid and Manc can report that the WANDA is a great stadium. The noise from the home end on the two occasions they got up carried magnificently. Got mugged off by a car park steward when he "helped" us get to the away end by saying "follow the pyro". A copper then stopped us half way up, white as a sheet as we were going to walk into the ultras.

There are different ways of handling it but it should never exceed 1 xG from a single chance. Most models will take only the first chance, others take the highest or average them.

The error bars on a single shot are pretty big. Even single game xG is pretty pointless.

If I was, like Mark Hughes, one of the top young British managers in the game, I'd actually see Bradford as a great opportunity. City of its size shouldn't be that far down the leagues.

I'm not sure why - historically we've pretty much always been in the lower two leagues. Yes, it's a large city, but most of the population aren't remotely interested in football. Usually get 14-15k each week which is good, but season tickets are only £200, so don't generate massive revenue.

It's certainly an interesting appointment and I'm really curious to see how it turns out.

Barca were really impressive last night. Great to watch and seemed genuinely well coached. Helps they've brought in Aubameyang and (a more effective than ever? Considering he scored/assisted roughly once per million games for Wolves) Adama. De Jong looks more like his Ajax self, he's a really fun player.

You'll have to give me a primer.
As far as I know they've not really explained it in depth, just thought it was interesting that they reckoned Opta and co's models were unsatisfactory so came up with their own.

'Field tilt' is the hipster Athletic-hyped stat that's interested me most.

Ian

I can't even imagine what xG would look like in any CM/FM game I've ever played.

Do they still balance things out by most 1-1 draws featuring 78 shots on target for the player team and 2 for the AI team?

They will have had to come up with their own because in real life constructing an xG model involves pissing about with piles of historical data and make various assumptions that are meaningless in a computer game.

I have no idea what the FM back end looks like, but I'm guessing that the framework for an xG model was by design already built in. A player with 15 finishing and 9 composure is taking a shot from co-ordinates x and y, the ball is at height y, there are x defenders between him and the goal and so on; this is the probability the goal is scored. The game rolls a 100 sided dice to decide if it goes in or not.

One of the Radio Norfolk commentators was saying he should play for England last week.

Given all the hype here, Kelleher is due an absolute nightmare today.

I don't think so. I await to be proved wrong but from what I've seen of the lad he's very good. I hope he sticks around for whenever Alisson decides it's time to move on.

Waffdon
27-02-2022, 12:46 PM
He won’t have much to worry about anyway assuming Lukaku starts. If he doesn’t and it’s Havertz up front and Reece James down the right then we might have a decent game

Bielsa officially gone.

And the clubs entire identity with him. Strong chance it all falls apart very quickly now. Shameful stuff from the board in my opinion, and in the opinion of almost every other Leeds fan I know.

They have the gall to talk about plans for a "permanent tribute" to him at Elland Road in the same statement announcing his sacking. I'll tell you what a fitting "tribute" to the man would have been, letting him get on with his fucking job. They can stick their statue/renaming of a stand/whatever other shit they think of up their arse, to be quite honest.

Jimmy Floyd

At board level it's about 22/23 TV money, nothing else matters. Same at any club.

Alonso versus Salah would have been a good enough reason to.

I hope it will be more like the mental Stamford Bridge game than the bore draw at Anfield. Though we didn't have a midfield that day so we had to play that way.

Tuchel sides always tend to attack well against Klopp, it's just whether or attack can get back at them.

A shame to see Elliott and Jones miss out, but someone has to. I also suspect Jota wont be ready for anything more than about 10 mins at the end.
