They mainly post in the shoutbox these days, a few messages. Majority will be in their 40s or 50s and when I joined there a while back, they'd all met up, so they'll prob be attempting to use a Whatsapp group or summat.

The forum back then was odd as you had the older users who'd had the internet since the old bbs days, all attempting serious discussion and conversation and the others were primarily teenagers who'd just got the internet who waded in with absolute fucking drivel the majority of the time.

These are due to the fact that we have a dodgy version of vBulletin and the plugins - at least one of which is riddled with AIDS. We could spend about £200 on a proper license, and still have enough cash left over for a good few years of hosting (unless we suddenly get a massive influx of members).

I'm in favour of it, as it means we're legal and can get rid of the issues caused by the dodgy plugins we've got. This should probably be a new thread.

We almost didn't have this place. The old board was spiralling a while before we started putting this together and it took about three weeks of negotiating with the server admin on the old place before he'd even deal with me beyond 'have Mark contact me', because apparently Mark had instructed him to deal with nobody but himself or IJ (I think it was) and didn't revoke that instruction when he fucked off. I reached a compromise with him where all instructions were looped through Mark and a day was to pass without response from him before any work would be done. It meant fixes were slow, but they did get done and it gave us the time to find new digs and tell people about them.

It also means Mark either has an old email account with a full record of the demise of TD or he was aware of the whole thing as it was going on and chose to do let it die.

If such money was to be spent why not look to take the forum into a new direction complete with website. Amongst us all there has to be some good ideas around and instead of randomly chatting shit about the same old crap on a weekly basis we start looking to contribute some genuine content, a proper recruitment drive by one and all and see where we end up.

It's got to be time for a mature discussion about what we want to safeguard the future because there will be no new generation coming through like there was on the old version. We either grow old together and the place dies or we get out of the comfort zone and embrace the world wide web.

Because that's a lot of effort - more effort than anyone here is willing to put in. Myself included.

What are we going to generate? Most of us don't play FM anymore. There's less and less space on the internet for a plucky little messageboard with something to prove. I mean, if anyone wanted to, that'd be great, but I just don't see it being feasible.

Yes and it wasnt even the odd restart here or there. He used one of the editors to edit the players while actually playing the game and still had about fifty restarts. I was one of the unfortunate ones who was in his group and I think it was late on he got rumbled. If that timewarp website shows the FM sections around that time then my anonymity is over.

Is it really an alias if I was never registered here in the first place? On the very first version of thedugout I went by my real life name and then when the board got reset or moved I went with a different one but the members still referred to me by my real name although I had stopped posting regularly a long time before that. When this forum was created then I simply opted against signing up. Just a few pages back Dark Soldier mentioned about what Wedge had done in the past so if I am honest I would rather it be this way.
