It's been a poor week (46) compounded by the fact that I've majorly borked my sums to Aguero back into my side. So that'll take a few weeks to correct.

A good game from Townsend (13) with an assist for Ibrahimovic, a goal for Captain Costa and a clean sheet for van Dijk puts me in the fifties... nothing too groundbreaking this week, but steady enough.
An Arsenal clean sheet would've been an excellent week.

Wildcarded. Had 2 transfers saved up - will that mean I'll still have 2 next week?
Shuffling around a bit and dropping Negredo and Hazard, and basicallly fucking defence off entirely, to get Aguero back in.
So now will have midfield:
Lallana - De Bruyne - Sanchez - Capoue - Barry
And on top:
Ibra - Aguero
That leaves me with 2.1M to do something with. Either I'll use it on improving two defenders, or on replacing Barry with someone like Iwobi (Arsenals fixtures look good but I'm worried about Iwobis rotation).
I'm a little interested how City will line up next game. It seems harsh to drop Iheanacho now, but likewise with Sterling and De Bruyne - and I don't quite see Pep playing Aguero in a number 10 role behind Iheanacho - although that's probably what I would have done...

Brought Bailly in for Shaw - Shaw is doubtful for tomorrow and Mourinho chewed him up a bit after Watford last week, so for the same price, I thought it was worth the trade.
Cech; Bailly, Baines, Koné; Townsend, Eriksen, Ibe, Cazorla; Negredo, Ibrahimovic (C), Costa.
I booted Zlatan for Aguero as United have a relatively hard run of games coming up and I need to have different players in a few leagues than the others to make ground after a shambolic start.

De Gea; McAuley, Holgate, Bailly; Antonio, Payet, Capoue, Sterling; Slimani, Ibrahimovic, Aguero (C).
Subs: Jakupovic, Hojbjerg, Amat, Kingsley.
On paper it's fucking brilliant which means I'm set to score about 30 points at best this weekend.
Almost triple captained Aguero but I pussied out so bet on him scoring a hattrick.

It never seems like a good strategy to do many transfers for -x points. I know it can occasionally pay off, but it just seems over a whole season those few occasions will almost always be fewer than the times it didn't pay off, and then it's better to just sit still in the boat and keep calm, I reckon.
I slightly prematurely traded out KdB for Walcott (rather than Sterling, not sure about that...) today - didn't realize there are a bunch of Champions League games today (and yesterday) so I'm hoping Walcott & Sanchez are rested. And Aguero. Though I doubt it .
Ibra for captain? Or has Aguero got a good record against Spurs?
Mazuuurk

Aguero is generally a fixture-proof player so I'd just say go for Aguero. Thats what I'll do anyway.
I think he scored 4 last season against Spurs in one of the games and once or twice in the other.
edit: sorry, apparently he scored 4 against Spurs in 2014-2015 season when City won 4-1.
Aguero is averaging 1.25 goals-per-game against Spurs, a strike-rate none of the other 12 players to have hit at least seven against Tottenham can better. That's from Sky.
I've got a small lead so I've gambled on Ibra.

I have plenty in the bank now so I could maybe sacrifice 4 points to get De Bruyne for Capoue or Costa for Diomande. Not sure which is best, but inclined to go for De Bruyne with Citys fixtures. Reckon they will bounce back straight away from their loss this weekend.

Made my first bad decision for a while this week. Was going to use all out attack as only two of my defenders had a non shit match coming up, but pussied out of it as I thought Willian would be taking Pedro's place today, but the cunt is starting. I also took captaincy off Costa and gave it to Sanchez last minute. Hoping it's just a 1-0 win for them now.
Ian Nacho gamble didn't pay off, but I can deal with that. Pedro scoring a hattrick will piss me right off though.

Joined although will no doubt forget after the first week, as per.
Courtois
Bailey - Evans - Koscielny - Baines
Coutinho - Firminho - Mane - Kante
Carroll - Lukaku.
Bench - Hennessey - Monreal - Hojbjerg - Batshuayi.
Hopefully Lukaku joins Chelsea but then I think I'll have to let one of them go as you can only have three from one club?
Anyone know what my username is?

Sack that. :D I'm top? WTF.
Thats ridiculous, you picked an almost perfect starting squad there. Costa is the top scoring player in the game so perfect as captain every week, the three Liverpool mids have all been brilliant, Fer has had a great goal scoring run, Lukaku has scored well and you have got a few points from the defence.
If you know your password logon and play your wildcard to get rid of Kante and Coutinho, can also sort the defence out a bit.
Fair play though, 25,000th out of 4.2m without any transfer or changes is pretty special.
Are 'good' defenders worth it in this? Obviously the Chelsea boys on their clean sheet run were great to have, but there's a 1m+ difference between Walker and McAuley / Daniels for about an extra 10 points over the season so far. Is that 1m better spent on midfielders and attackers? That's my approach now - I've packed hazard, ozil, mane ; lukaku, costa, benteke in to my team now. Looking to squeeze one more top quality player in if I can manage it.
Mazuuurk
13-12-2016, 02:32 PM
From what I can tell since the PL has become so competititive that there are no "safe" fixtures anymore (almost at least) - there isn't much value in defence. Best you can do is try to go for consistent goalscorers or passers. Bellerin is good as such, since he might also get a clean sheet now and then (though Arsenal are great att making a 3-0 win turn into 3-1 instead).
So all in all, there doesn't seem to be much value in defence IMO.

It's definitely been the way, as you say it's only really been Chelsea consistently keeping clean sheets and you surely want both Hazard and Costa in your team, so there's only a space for one of their defenders anyway and I'd agree the money is better spent elsewhere. My midtable defenders pick up enough points every now and then to be worthwhile and it's meant I can go ridiculously top heavy.

I had 2 points from Cech and Monreal on Tuesday, but Rondon's 17, Eriksen's 19, Clyne's 10 and van Dijk's 9 has helped to boost me to 70.
The guy with the top points score this week got 154 points - he used the bench boost chip to gain an extra 40 points, he had Chris Brunt as Captain and all but three of his players got bonus points. Didn't even make any transfers this week to make it happen, either.
Samadini
15-12-2016, 01:38 PM
I always go out in the cup to the sort of person who has Brunt as captain, but I never have the balls to do something like that myself.

My old flatmates used to seethe at the fact that I worked for Opta and would waste a lot of time and energy trying to prove they knew more about football than I did, even though I would never claim to be a know it all and working for Opta definitely doesn't mean that you are one. We had a fantasy league on the go and they would take it extremely seriously, like your mate and absolutely LOVE IT when they took an early lead over me. Clawed it back over the weeks and went top, as soon as that happened, they stopped playing and acted like they never cared about it, so I never got to use that face either. I got donned.

I'm not sure what the wild card business is but it meant transfers cost me no points init. Anyways yeah, fecked it.
Now that Verthongen is probably out for weeks, who's taking his place? Is it going to be Wimmer or Davies? Wimmer seems like the more obvious choice, but he's played about two minutes so far in the league this season.
