Outdoor stuff to do during COVID-19 The Sequel

So, assuming there are is at least some form of lockdown/further restrictions over what's left of autumn and winter, I'm fucked if I'm staying indoors for as long as I did last time. It's simply not healthy. So providing it's within the rules I'll be doing it.

Taking entertainment and hospitality venues out of the equation, what do the good people of TTH recommend to do outside over the coming months? Suggestions of specific locations/viable activities would be welcome.

I know one can Google these things, but that's what the Bournemouth beach moron contingent will also be doing, so we need the inside track to stay away from those fucks, which our nationwide coverage should provide.

    Over to you...

Wasn't much of a chance given there was an actual lockdown, which may not be the case this time. At least not fully.

I can’t wait to have to sit in again and not feel guilty about it.

My go to thing is golf (even that was closed for a bit), short of that I will resume my long walks programme when I get free weekend days, which might be pretty often if there's an actual lockdown of any kind. Got up to comfortable 15-18 miles last time but would love to go further.

I prefer urban/suburban walks as you get the sense of actually passing through/around things, rather than just grass and more grass in the country.

I would think tennis might be allowed, so join a tennis club. (Then blame me when tennis is banned and you've just paid a hundred quid for a year's membership.)

If there's another lockdown close to March's, I'll be going on walks / dog walks, and maybe playing lots of guitar (played regularly years ago, now lost much of my very average ability).

I don't think they'll stop outdoor sports again. Probably the most counterproductive thing they could do. I was at a rugby club yesterday (sadly) and they don't think they'll be able to play full contact until 21/22. That is tragic really. Even in the park my flat overlooks, the football goals are up and everything.

Nah I wouldn't have thought so. Not soon anyway. Maybe in the spring or something if things are handled dreadfully / people go mental.

It's not dark or cold. It should be but the planet is fucked.

Anyway, long walks are all that's in store for me. That and maybe reading more books.

It's certainly dark, my 3 lap route has had to be reduced to 1/2 due to the earlier sunsets.

First walk was ruined by the unstoppable smell of horse shit. If you drive a horsebox down a main road, everything in its wake is stunk up like nuclear fallout.

I know a solution for that. I was wondering why a section of my route was always so serene until I had someone join me one day about 3 months in who informed me.

What's happening with cricket where you are Jim? Heard some bollocks about fielders not being allowed to pick the ball up round here

We got a complete half-season in (just finished). There are a few tiresome adaptations like pausing every 6 overs to sanitise hands, but a small price to pay really.

Fielders are allowed to do what they want, but in theory any spectators around the boundary edge aren't allowed to touch the ball - in practice this leads to ridiculous scenes where someone hits a boundary, the ball runs up to a bench which someone's sitting on, and rather than throwing it back they just have to sit there while matey runs sixty yards and picks it up. Most spectators just do lob it back, but that then leads to the one Covid-bedwetter at the ground shitting their pants and running around in tears upset.

If anyone, anywhere has caught Covid from a cricket ball, I would be immensely surprised. From socialising after the game, yes.

I'm still playing football. I'm not sure if I should be because my job goes to shit if I have to stay at home for two weeks, but it's good for my head so fuck it.

Me too. Indoor as well. I get tested every two weeks and there are not many cases around here, so what the hell.

I do, unfortunately. Most of the times it is not too bad, but some of them really go all in.

We've just started our football season. The most annoying thing is the changing room is closed so you can't change in private (from the world not the team) and you can't actually clean yourself after which seems counterproductive. Instead of washing the virus off me, I'm carrying it back an hour through Putney. Oh well.

We had that problem in cricket, ECB told us to all arrive changed for matches. That happened the first week and then people realised that bowling around town in cricket whites was a ridiculous state of affairs so thereafter everyone just changed on the side of the pitch. And yes, I smelled some smells post-match, smells that will never leave me.

I mean the changing doesn't bother me much, it's the smelling like sweat for 1.5 hours as I commute home that does.
