I'm really not convinced Ireland are even as good as Scotland anymore, and they're definitely worse than Holland.

Their side today has I think three OK cricketers and the batting is the strong suit. I mean, this Delany kid got picked to open the batting today with a list A average under 20 and that's playing against Irish domestic players with jobs.

His backlift/batting stance was an affront to decency.

Nicking off for an airy 25.

I love that we'll make a meal of this chase before (probably) limping over the line.

Of course Vince did that. Do the selectors actually watch the games?

He'll be opening the bowling at the Gabba next winter.

There's a little bit of Jofra Archer in Vince's action - probably 20mph slower but a very smooth action.

Michael Carberry's obviously started early today.

I remember Vince bowling once I think in a Test match, and Michael Holding basically went into a fit of rage on air because he was so shit.

I'm up for him opening the bowling. Imagine how handy those pretty 20s would be at number ten.

Is 5 runs the max or can an umpire make it up on the spot?

I'm guessing it's up to the official to determine what offence(s) have been committed a s justify the number of runs by judgement call but Jimmy is the resident umpire.

Penalty runs are always 5 per offence as far as I know. That would have been a Level 2 offence under Law 42, and a pretty blatant one at that.

If you chuck a punch or throw a bat or something, then you'd be into Level 3 or 4 which is capital punishment basically. At level 3 you start getting sin binned.

Roy out early and the Vinceinator cracks his second ball for four (edged, but still). 49 overs to bat, surely today's the day.

That was a lovely ball from Archer. And while it's redundant to say it's good to have got an early one because it always is the Pakistan openers hadn't looked too fussed so far so I was a bit worried they'd settled in for the duration.

Day off today and the first time I've really been able to watch a spell of live play this summer, these 34 runs from Babar Azam have been worth my full year's leave allowance and then some. Just gorgeous.

Is the chat with this that they think morale would take a catastrophic hit if he was binned for being a bit shit?

Or does he have pictures of Ed Smith eating a Pot Noodle that they'd rather didn't come to light or something?

Dom Bess ragging it on day one is a good sign . . .

Also, good to see that whilst the rest of the country is basically melting in a heatwave Manchester has somehow managed to have half a day of rain. Why did they take their bio bubble there exactly?
