Watched a film called ‘Escape Room’ on Prime (looks like there’s more than one) - see if you can guess what it entails? Didn’t recognise any of the cast bar Deborah Ann Woll (Daredevil) but quite enjoyed the premise and how it played out. Definitely a large ‘Saw’ influence, just somewhat less grisly.
The second one has just come out in cinema - Tournament of Champions. Again, you can pretty much guess where that goes. It’s fine, but not as good as the first one.

Without seeing those, there must be one where the twist is they escape one only to find there's another.

Just watched Saint Maud. It was interesting for sure but definitely not the standard horror fare.
Just watched Jungle Cruise. It wasn’t very good at all.
And I just watched The Suicide Squad. You know what? It was actually pretty good.
Suicide Squad is getting so much critical hype I might wait to see it, as I am always wary of that. Same with Saint Maud, if you watched on release with critics saying it was the scariest film of the decade you might feel unhappy, but seeing it afterwards I was happy enough with it.
Not surprised about Jungle Cruise.
Every comic book film gets hyped. This one was so hyped it got rebooted in a matter of years so they can do it all again at the box office.

Yeah, I was probably helped by not expecting much from it. It’s still not on the level of the best Marvel films, but it’s closer than the other DC efforts.
I enjoyed St Maud too, but then I much prefer the more atmospheric horror films like that/Hereditary/Us to generic jumpscare/slasher flicks.
The trailer for King Richard looks alright. It's nice to see Will Smith not sounding like Will Smith.

Just watched The Peanut Butter Falcon. Loved it! It ‘leaves’ Netflix tomorrow, I’d check it out if you haven’t seen it.
It's an almost impossible story to fuck up so it should be good, but yet another role that will no doubt be played as safe as houses by Mr Smith.
They’re not going to have him batter them. No script would get that far.
Which is fine, but he really should take some risks in his career. He's a very good actor.
Watched OUATIH for a second time last night. The ending hits just as hard, but the body of the film didn't quite hold up.

Do you know what film is really good? Horton Hears A Who. Jim Carrey and Steve Carell as the two main voices and it’s just really funny. Maybe having so low expectations are just seeing the cover (with Dr Sue’s’ name on) helped, but honestly I was laughing for the majority of it. The bridge scene is amazing.

Pig is really good. Surprisingly because it's Nicholas Cage.
Yeah I saw that despite the mental trailer and premise it had been getting pretty strong reviews.
I think he's still got a good (or at least fun) performance in him, he just spends all his time in tat. I can least see from a couple of more recent things I've seen him in why you'd still hire him for your straight to DVD nonsense unlike Bruce Willis, say, who just seems to sleepwalk through any roles he gets now.
If Nicholas Cage is in it, I watch it. What a man!
Don't expect a normal Cage film. He plays a really strong, emotional performance.
There is a certain breed of actor (including him) for whom I have full respect. Role lands on desk, man takes role, man plays role to best of his ability, man is paid. Professionalism at its best.

Giant Little Ones has gone and inserted sexual fluidity to the winning formula of good looking people in a good looking American suburbia location and ruined my love of coming of age films. It's got strong reviews so this must be the moment I've outgrown the genre. You were good to me.

I just watched an odd one: Teen Titans Go! Watch Space Jam and it was basically exactly that. Starts off like an episode of Teen Titans Go! but the aliens from Space Jam come to visit them. Cyborg recognises them but quickly realised the rest of them haven’t seen Space Jam, so they all go and watch it. And then it’s literally just [the original] Space Jam with the Teen Titans occasionally commenting on what’s going on.
It was great!

I watched '71 the other day and I highly recommend.
This week I have also watched Jaws 2 and Jaws 3 because I am a glutton for punishment. Not sure if I can try Jaws The Revenge though, could be a bridge too far.
