Yeah the trick is to leave the tutorial area as quickly as possible. I didn't finish it but it was reasonably compelling.

I keep meaning to get back into it. I should probably whack it on easy and just 'experience' it or whatever. I've got Witcher 2 sitting on the 360 as well. I've left too many RPGs on my to-do list.

Bully is decent. Finally getting into it and realising, due to the school schedule, every mission is pretty short.

My Xbox Live membership has run out, so if I buy say 12 months of membership and then go and buy the Game Pass Ultimate that's on offer for £2, will it let me still do that? And if so will I only get 2 months of the Game Pass benefits or will it last for the full length of the membership?

I thought when @thommo did it, it may have been glitch, but I've had someone else tell me they did the same thing so does it happen every time?

I don't know for sure, but IGN seem to think it will extend to your Gold membership period, as it did last time. When I did it, Xbox actively encouraged this, so I think it might be a deliberate thing to just get more and more people into Game Pass and hopefully keep them there.

They all do. Screens and video dont do it justice, its outstanding on a monitor in front of you.

Metro Exodus looks outstanding with it on.

Subjective, really. Graphics need to advance, and res wise we're a long way off proper 8k gaming so lighting/reflections/shadows are the next step.

Plus reflections can affect gameplay in ways never expected. Those with RTX on in BFV online have an advantage due to every reflective surface showing a proper reflection and you can spot unseen enemies in that reflection. Same thing has happened in Control to me, seeing an enemy sneak up behind me in a window reflection.

But then many won't want to pay £700 plus for it, which is understandable. In motion its a subtle but fucking glorious thing and I couldn't go back.

Got a (definitely legitimate) copy of sims 2 plus all expansions on my laptop. I'm not proud but it's still one of my all time favourites.

Also I'd always disregarded AVGN without watching the videos cus it sounds like the kind of thing I'd hate but I'm quite enjoying them. The hong kong 1997 one is something else.

Made a start on Prey: Mooncrash there. Having it as a sort-of roguelike thing is an interesting approach. I've only completed the initial single-character run so far (with one death) so still lots to see but I'm keen to see how it all hangs together when you've got multiple characters unlocked for the same.

Nice to be back in that setting and I'll be interested to see where it sits with Prey on that front.

So yeah Dragon Age: Inquisition seemed really simplistic at first, but getting into it it seems to get better and better.

It's maybe too open for my liking, or perhaps it's just that the terrain is fucking confusing to navigate in. I'm constantly trying to get somewhere that's 3 steps away on the map but up some massive cliff that it takes a year to find the path up to. Skyrim I seem to remember did this brilliantly where you never really felt "lost" in the landscape.

The landscapes are pretty but also feel very fake at the same time. Playing this after Divinity 2 seems a perfect example of how you can make something better by not attempting to make it too realistic, instead just embracing that it's a video game.

The battle system basically seems like a Hack n Slash tho. The battle camera mode you can switch on seems quite useless.

So basically they just tried too hard to be like Skyrim here really. But I'm still quite enjoying it.
Not far into the story yet, but so far it seems a little... forced. Hope it gets better.

It's not even trying to be like Skyrim, really. Their new favourite model is grindy single player sort-of grindy MMO.

Andromeda did it and my recollection is that Inquisition also had a lot of quests which boiled down to "go to x and kill / find / collect a given number of y."

Playing any fantasy RPG straight after Original Sin 2 is a risky proposition, though.

That's why I'm doing this before playing Witcher 3, heh.

Basically, it seems unnecessarily open and big, so I think I'll not bother doing too much exploring. It's fun to a point, but it's a little frustrating that it almost seems impossible (or at least a bit inane) to properly "clear" areas.

Thats right. I've been without a PC/Console for a LONG time (I think the last game I properly played was Pillars of Eternity when it was just new) and so I'm making up BIG TIME.

WRC8 is surprisingly good. They've beefed up their career mode quite a bit by basically doing what Codemasters do with their F1 stuff. Except there's more staff, money and time management stuff. I still hate Monte Carlo, though. Hairpin, hairpin, hairpin, house, smash.

If you've got GamePass for Xbox you can download and play Gears 5 today.

They're still doing the 2 months for £2 offer. I had 3 months left and I bought it so I now have GamePass Ultimate until February. Paid for it with £2 that was sitting in my Microsoft account, though I don't ever remember having used that before, so I've no idea how I got it.

The sad thing about the Poochiemobile is that as a car it's actually really good. Feels hefty but not like you're not in control of it..

Unfortunately there are stretches of the game where Batman feels like a sidekick to it.

Yeah, Ace Chemicals was very much playing second fiddle to it. The two things I love about the Arkham games are the combat and traversal. The Batmobile stuffs any flow or momentum you have and the car combat is pointless.

Well, now a mission's glitched out and I can't continue. Followed the car to Penguin's hideout, beat the goons on the roof. Switched it off last night and now I have no mission marker to get me back on track. Fuck off.

On the topic of Mass Effect - I've always wanted to play them (I haven't played anything in the series for whatever reasons) but I just kind of feel now that doing it all from the start is a bit of a daunting task. I also always feel that pure 3D games age much much worse than isometric or in other way artsy ones do.

    Can I jump in later?

I don't think I finally completed the original Mass Effect until 5 or 6 years after it came out and on my third attempt.

You'd want to play all 3 of the main trilogy but for Mass Effect 1 there are things I'd suggest you do (or more pertinently, stuff you don't do) to get the most out of it.
