This is all such an unforced error. They've completely torched the entire narrative around the entire issue to the point where I have no idea what the vague fluff he mentioned about moving to lockdown phase 2 even means, if it means anything at all.
The incompetence in not ending the story is remarkable. Cummings, or any advisor, cannot be THAT valuable to them. If he is then they shouldn't be pretending to form a government in the first place. Even if they really wanted to keep him, they could have poured water on it by admitting guilt first up but saying he doesn't need to resign over it. It would be a storm for a day or two but not the complete self-napalming effort that this is.
The problem is half the Parliamentary party owe Boris their careers and the other half are raving lunatics, so there won't be any challenge to him.

Today is the unofficial end of the lockdown then. No one will take it seriously after that.
