Finished episode 5 of it today and thought it was another excellent episode.

Overall for me, there was a slight dip after the first three as I don't think anything ever has captured the terror and confusion of dealing with a real life event on that sort of scale that this show did before, and where could you possibly go after that.

But episodes 4 and 5 were still brilliant and the whole thing is as good (if not better) than anything I've ever seen before. I think it will hold up to repeat viewings as well.

If Mokbull is downplaying it, it must be incredible.

Finished Chernobyl tonight. It really is up there with the very best tv. Brilliant from start to finish.

Watching When They See Us in Netflix now and it's shaping up to be very good too.

I got nothing bad to say about it, it just doesn't strike me as the kind of thing that I'll ever want to rewatch or come back to. Good across the board, but I've watched shows that have gripped me more

Maybe part of it is that being Czech I already know all about the bullshit Russian mindset. Also got to factor in the knowledge that despite how serious it was, it really didn't kill very many people, so that past episode 2 you already know everything is going to be fine and they'll figure it out.

It's on NOW TV which you can get a 7 day free trial for. Otherwise I'm sure there are plenty of other ways to find it online.

Yep last episode of Chernobyl was also great.

Amazing that they somehow managed to create an amount of suspense during those scenes leading up to the explosion, even though you knew what was coming already, all the while also somehow explaining the chain-of-events and complexity of a nuclear reactor in the courtroom in a pretty graspable manner.

Then there's stuff like this (note that I havent verified the authenticity at all of that but seems legit): https://www.reddit.com/r/ChernobylTV...f_pripyat_and/

..that just makes all of it even better. That fucking Mickey Mouse statue is haunting.

I'm not sure you can compare it to things that have to maintain themselves for sixty episodes, but as far as miniseries go Chernobyl is the best I've watched. I'm still not sure I buy that it came from the man who gave us Scary Movie 4, but there we are.

The performances were uniformly brilliant, but the bloke playing Dyatlov deserves special mention for being the most instantly hateful cunt I've ever seen on television.

Mazuuurk touched on it but you know it's good when the last episode can feel as tense as that despite already knowing so much beforehand.

I do wonder if the real Dyatlov was such a cunt, it almost seemed like he was trolling.

Back end of the season did very little for me, to be honest. Going to put it aside for a moment and burn through Good Omens instead.

    I’ve just realised there’s a season 11 of the X-Files.

Season ten sucked so bad (although compared to Twin Peaks season 3, it was a masterpiece) but I may as well finish the entire catalogue.

I'd seen that the series had received mediocre reviews and feared the worst. I just finished the third episode, and thought all three were very good. Definitely not up there with the very best episodes, but all three were above average. I'd give it a good 8/10.

That was a good watch. I like the education factor. Ive heard stories about Chernobyl and radiation but never gave it too much though. Is there anything else like this that can be recommended?

The Japanese have never been shy about doing bonkers experiments on humans just to see what they can find out, although generally it's not on one of their own.

Some of the shit they did to Chinese prisoners during WW2 was properly unhinged, like skinning people alive to see how long a person can live without skin, or rearranging people's gastrointestinal system to make sure we had the most efficient arrangement. Look up 'Unit 731' if you want to thoroughly spoil your Saturday.

Then after the war ended everyone squabbled over who would get all the research and most of the people in that unit were let off entirely.
