Apropos of Meatloaf dying, I was looking up how long his I Would Do Anything for Love song was number 1 for (7 weeks, I thought longer) and it led me to 1993 being somewhat of a 'banger' of a year for music. No Limit, All That She Wants, Mr Vain, What Is Love, Informer, Boom Shake The Room, Whitney, Suede, In Utero, Automatic for the People, East 17 [we'll gloss over all the Take That wank], Chaka Demus & Pliers, probably just a function of age but good stuff.
I've checked and it's not all misty-eyed nostalgia, as, by comparison, 1994 was an absolute wasteland. Almost half a year of Wet Wet Wet at number 1 amongst other trash.
I suppose you have your Rhythm of the Night, D-Ream and Stiltskin [cracking riff in that, or whatever, did it feature heavily for Sky in some way or other] and I believe Definitely Maybe came in '94 so it wasn't all bad.
Music got worse with each passing year of the 90s. Probably went the other way for a while in the 2000s. No idea since then.
To be fair to the rest of the 90s, 'Turtle Power' by Partners in Kryme coming out in 1990 gave the rest of the decade an impossible act to follow.
