I was walking past the vaccine centre yesterday and a rather delectable young man tried to literally drag me in off the street for a 2nd Pfizer if I had had my first before 18 May. Alas my first was 30 May so I am left a single-jabbed man, for some reason.

Netherlands cases increase by 500% in a week after reopening
In news that may not bode well for England, the Netherlands has seen a huge surge in cases after it scrapped nearly all remaining restrictions and reopened nightclubs in late June.
The government was forced to backtrack and reimpose restrictions, with Prime Minister Mark Rutte apologising and calling it an "error of judgement".
Nightclubs have been closed again until at least 13 August and bars will have to shut at midnight.
Nearly 52,000 people in the Netherlands tested positive for COVID-19 over the past week - increasing by more than 500%.
Officials said that of the infections that could be tracked to their source, 37% happened in a hospitality venue such as a bar or club.
Hospital admissions increased by 11%, or 60 COVID-19 patients, over the past week.

We're banking big on natural immunity and vaccines flattening the curve. Or something.
The Clubs are going to produce mental numbers. Their target audience is pretty much entirely unvaccinated / newly single dosed. But they're also low risk.
We need to get away from thinking about Case numbers. We don't monitor how much Flu is going around and we don't spend time testing people to track variants like this either.

To a degree but there comes a tipping point whereby even with far fewer percentage of people in hospital then it still hits the numbers of last year. Not sure if thats 150k a day, 200k a day or it may be far higher but 1% of that many cases ending up in hospital starts becoming big numbers. What we dont know is how many of the people going to hospital at the minute are just massive fannies and how many of them are actually ill.
I've also see figures from the ONS showing that the covid deaths are still higher in the vaccinated (double jabbed) compared to the unvaccinated.
This of course pours fuel onto the argument from people who do not want to get the vaccine. However, surely those ONS figures are more a reflection that the majority of double jabbed people are OAPs and the majority of the unvaccinated are the younger generation? And therefore at lower risk regardless. I'd like to see a comparison between the two for each age bracket.

Rules question:
A girl in my daughters class was off school yesterday isolating because her brother has Covid. The girl has woken up with symptoms today and had a test.
Should my daughter be off school? Or does that only happen when they get the positive test back? OR does she not have to at all because the girl only got symptoms when already isolating (she was last in on Monday)?
I should know this but it's been a while and I can't remember. (Definite Alzheimers)

I don't know the exact logistics of how it's done, but we must track flu variants to some degree because they alter which ones are in the jab each year depending on what's most prevalent.
I get that they monitor the strain going around etc, but they don't have everyone sticking things up their nose everytime they're ill to do so.
It just feels like we're not "learning to live with the virus" by constantly hunting cases of it down. You could monitor it just as well be testing the hospital admissions.
If you’re counting adults only we are at 87% one dose and 67% double dosed. If you count the whole population the numbers are 69% and 53%.
I haven't given a shit for a long time now, but there's definitely value in maintaining the statistics until we're sure it's over, which won't be until next summer at least.
I don’t know what numbers you are referring to but pure death numbers from each demographic is not helpful. You need to be looking at case fatality rate to take into account the amount of older people who don’t become ill at all due to the vaccine.
