Not really, we have our own shithouse politicians here.

I just don't really care about that stuff and I don't think I ever have. There were so many massive mistakes made during the whole covid shitshow that focusing on a few twats getting pissed in a garden always struck me as diversionary at best, even if you worry about lying/honesty/being seen to follow the rules etc.

I don't really know enough about UK politics [having been out of it for over 10 years] but it is quite amusing to think what 'The Tories' have to show for their decade in power or whatever it has been. Everytime they get a mandate of some sort they seem to manage to blow it up in spectacular style so, aside from Brexit, which most of them didn't want anyway, what have they done other than feather the nests of people like that Australian/Cameron mate banking bastard?

Depending on when the next GE is I may well have a vote and I doubt I'll be casting it for them [even out of spite to cancel out my wife's vote, which was the only reason I ever voted for them anyway].

Thank God for Russia because we'd be easily the worst country in the world at the moment otherwise.

Voting Labour is other people's job. The country currently needs a fresh approach, which Labour will be the ones to provide. Doesn't mean I'm going to put my X against socialism. I'll vote Tory most times because we're a super country and most things about it should stay the same. Doesn't mean I dream about penetrating Jacob Rees-Mogg's unyielding Catholic sphincter while I queue at the polling station.

If you don't like that approach to life, then fuck you, have your own approach and enjoy it.

Thinking about voting I had a horrible sinking feeling that I might have once voted for Damien Green, but it turns out it was Greg Hands in 2005 when what was Hammersmith and Fulham switched to Conservative [before being abolished]. Think that was the only election I was ever in a marginal for. Couldn't bring myself to vote for Frank Dobson in 2001 [I see that is now Sir Keir's seat] and Emily Thornberry was just too smug to ever countenance voting for in 2010 [assume she is still the MP there]. In fairness, in recent years she seems less of a dick.

Really, this is all Jeremy Corbyn's fault. If he wasn't so shit half of these idiots wouldn't have got in in the first place.

I've gone back through all the elections I've voted in. Voted Labour once in a local election when I was young. Voted LD in the 2009 European elections and felt physically sick afterwards, like, pain shooting up my entire torso. No to AV, Leave in the referendum because I know Europe, we just don't think like them (impact of WW2 will go on for centuries, like it or not), and in the long run we are better off out of their silly federal institutions. 4 general elections I've voted for Dominic Raab four times in a row. Lots of shame involved there, especially in 2019, but had to be done to keep corbz out.

I was in this seat in 2010 actually and voted for useless Chinese policeman George Lee. So only three times for Raab.

On the broad subject of the downfall of conservative politics in the UK can someone not do something about 'Lord Frost'? He was bad enough when he was confined to annoying whatever the French EU Negotiator guy was called [imagine forgetting that] but now he seems to be some sort of right-wing rentagob without portfolio he's beyond insufferable.

Someone did a gallery of his progression from 'Truss is best for Britain' (July) to 'Truss must resign for the country's sake' (October). He should be jailed without charge.

This is what it must be like for everyone else watching the silly politics here in the US.

I would much rather have a Tory party willing to blow up their own government twice in a year. That’s admittedly much healthier than what we’ve got.

Starmer's Labour is closer to David Cameron's offering in 2010 than 'socialism'.

More fucking nutters than big hitters. And people see them as big hitters because Boris gave them jobs last time, so obviously they'll back him. Jimmy had a point that he probably has 80 diehard fans and not much beyond it.

What do the cells highlighted in green mean on that spreadsheet (such as cells 52-68 for Boris)? Are these people that have voted anonymously?

It tells you at the top...

Anonymous MPs: Whips, party board members,
Tory vice chairs and 1922 chairmen who have to
remain publicly neutral though have a vote.
Guido has verified all these names to be true.

Now isn't really the best time to be arguing in favour of the Tories and against Labour, but on average, I don't believe it's a good thing for people to be perpetually dependent on the state, which is usually what happens on a wider scale when Labour are in power.

How are they going to stitch him up? Just have Rishi get to 100 and no one else? I know it's electoral suicide no matter what they do, but doing that, and thus pissing off the only people who might countenance voting for you in the next GE seems another level of self-immolation. If Boris gets in front of the members [oi oi etc] they're clearly going to vote for him.

I don't think he has as much support as others think, and even if he does, if Rishi is say 220-130 ahead then he would have a serious problem of actually being able to govern. There would be a huge number of rebellions and maybe even defections from those who have a grasp of reality.

His mate Charles Moore has done a column this morning advising him not to run. My best guess is he will eventually drop out and maybe be given a Ukraine role by Sunak.

For the good of the country he has to drop out, if he runs, he wins. 100 is too low a bar to block him via the MP nomination part of the process and the membership are clearly batshit enough to vote for him - 36% still favoured Truss to Sunak a day or two before she went, according to one survey.

We're gonna need something like this now to stop the inevitable:

    1. Boris gets 100 backers
    2. Boris announces he's running
    3. ?????
    4. Win for Sunak

Our problem is Conservative party members live in a completely different world so just like Truss, they’ll vote Boris and not have a clue why it blows up in their face.
