They'd have had track position to fuck about with Verstappen a bit on their slower hard tyre middle stint.

Hamilton knew it as soon as they let the gap drift to 6 seconds on the undercut.

Doesn’t help they’re also consistently one of the worst teams at pit stops. Merc lose out on a second most pits to Mclaren and Red Bull

He could have gone for the hards earlier and still gone back to the mediums on the same lap that he did, losing much less time in the process.

Red Bull were famously cheating with their pits and that record setter from McLaren last week has me thinking they are now too.

Cheating how? Super fun fuel rigs or just wheel covers that come off really, really quick?

For Red Bull they changed the guns with the redlight/green light thing.

Hmmm. That's actually kinda clever. The one thing I've read is their wheelnuts are more robust, too. So they don't have to worry about them getting stuck like Mercedes' have.

Just seen F1 Manager 23 is out and the cover art is excellent for multiple reasons. 1, they seem to have been asked to 'pose as if you were looking at the shit you've just taken' and 2, the fact that its the two most successful team leaders and then gunther.

It would be very on brand for both teams if they get thrown out.

Not sure they can throw a 52827th reprimand at them for this one.

    Both disqualified officially.

It was a worn skid block which usually doesn’t happen from one big impact but repeated scraping throughout the race. Fair enough penalty then, Hamilton wouldn’t have been up Max’s arse if he was riding higher. Leclerc fuck knows because he was still a tractor, probably battling with Sargeant.

Yup, both Hamilton and Leclerc disqualified. The fact it's a sprint weekend can't have helped regarding setup but it's an uncharacteristic mistake from Mercedes. On the other hand, I've come to expect it from Ferrari.

Double points for Williams though, that's a cracking result considering where they qualified.

Do they inspect everyone? Two different cars being done for the same thing is highly unusual.

Hasn't it been the one main thing inspected on all cars for years? I don't think there's a conspiracy there.

I suspect cutting two practice sessions of set up time out is wot dun it. Might also explain how Lewis and Charles were so much faster than their teammates if they were running extremely low.

I suppose the lack of running on high fuel loads is what stopped this also happening in the sprint.

Scrutineering is done completely at random I believe. Russell and Sainz didn't have their cars checked.

Yeah, my thought was that if two different cars have been done then how many more also likely transgressed.

They only check four cars, so it's almost certain that others have also done it.

COTA is notoriously bumpy in areas so I was wondering if that was an issue, but all the paddock journos are saying the kerbs did it. Which if is the case, I've no sympathy, stay on the fucking road (same goes for track limits).

Mercedes had a proper mare all weekend. They squandered a shit load of points in hindsight (even without the DQ), that update looks decent.

To be precise, they check a car from each of the top four teams (Verstappen, Norris, Hamilton and Leclerc in this case). Not sure how they decide which of the two cars will be tested.

You'd have a thought that 1) They would check all points scoring cars and if not then at least 2) If a car fails a check, then you also check the other car.

I'm not that much of a rule buff but I would have thought that Hamilton and Leclerc transgressions would give them enough probable cause to go and inspect Russell and Sainz.

Probably an oversight in the wording means they can't but it'll get introduced ASAP.

I'd be pissed off if I were whoever finished 11th after this and there was a high likelihood of more cars that should have been DQ'd.

I don't know how long the scrutineering checks take but I presume that unless the car is chosen, it's released back to the teams thus breaking parc ferme conditions, so they can't retrospectively check Russell/Sainz after the fact.

I reckon it's one of those where he's going to put the car in something like 7th and proceed to run an Albon train as people behind just can't overtake him.

That car will love the Vegas straight too, which is also lol in length.

I’ll be surprised if Mclaren do anything this weekend as the track couldn’t suit their car less. Can’t completely write off Merc/Ferrari shambles that lead to another Norris podium though

And yeah, Fernando knew exactly what he was doing. On the throttle last part of the three-part chicane in front of a major DRS zone? Sure, amigo.

Fortunately he's never been involved in deliberate crashing incidents before, so absolutely no suspicion falls upon him.
