Picked up this book as Fuschia Dunlop's series on Chinese food are supposed to be excellent.

Going to have a go at making 'Fish-Fragrant Fried Chicken' and 'Red-braised pork' at the weekend.

The only problem I can see is ingredients in some of the recipes are absolutely impossible to get, but then that's not really the books fault. She is good at giving alternatives but I can never help feeling the dish won't be quite what it's meant to be if you do that.

Holy christ the base for that Bradford curry is pretty hard hitting.

It's absolutely banging - we ended up not adding the green chilli paste otherwise the in-laws might have been killed off.

Yeah, I was thinking it's pretty fiery as it is, but I've already blended them up (sans seeds) so they're going in later. Hopefully heat levels won't be off the charts. I figure the lamb fat will temper the sauce a bit (bad luck vegetarians).

I went in with the full amount of ghee.

Excessive butter levels pretty much always take curries to the next level.

My parents got this, and while my Dads always been good at a curry this has taken him to another level. Fantastic recipes and the books lovely to look at too.

That Bradford/Karachi curry is top tier stuff. A bit pokey but I can take it.

It's a Le Crueset thing, nothing has ever stuck to it. It's immense, if a bit on the small side.

I’m not sure even I could put four away.

Randomly saw a video the other day from some lad who’s trying to become YouTube famous and like his third ever video was ‘eating 20 cheeseburgers in 10 minutes’ with an immediate red flag of it being a seven minute video. The editing was a 9/10, entertainment a solid 8/10 should go far, but my god he was bad at eating McDonald’s cheeseburgers. Think he only got 6 down or something as equally shameful.

    Found it:

One every 30 seconds is probably a bit much, but I think 20 in 20 minutes would be fairly straightforward.

Maybe we could liven TTH up with some livestreamed eating contents? We could organise the forum up into weight divisions and have a decent line up every Saturday with costumes/characters encouraged a la wrestling.

For a fairly fat bastard, I'm terrible at big boy eating feats. Appetite just goes and that's it. I'm more of a consistent long term performer, like Everton, or Chris Woakes.

Wet food is different. If you filled a family saloon with chilli con carne, I'm pretty sure I could have it roadworthy within 2 working days.

There is a new sweet shop in my town and they have one of those 4.5kg Toblerones in the window. How long did I say it would take me to eat it in the Old Board thread about it? I think it was two days, and only Offshore and Beano had my back. #lads

Forgot to get pictures before serving up so these are the leftovers, but here's those two dishes I said I was making from the book up-page.
