Some reports suggest the taxi arrived already on fire so not a car bomb, which sounds more likely given the pictures I saw had no damage to anything except the taxi. Usually these bombs are rammed full of shrapnel for maximum effect.
EDIT: seen another picture now with a nearby car on fire and the subsequent response is very terror orientated.

It appears to have been somebody with a bomb/suicide bomber in the taxi, the taxi driver clocked him acting suspiciously, locked him in the taxi, and he blew [himself] up. If that is indeed what happened fucking lol out loud at that absolute whopper. Out-witted by a Scouse cabbie. Get that man a medal and a new house.

Lots of armed police showing up at near 1am says there's still some serious shit going down.
Spoke to my sister back home and the word is that the fella got into the taxi and wanted to go somewhere else. One of the Cathedrals has been said but not sure if that's true. Cabbie has clocked the guy acting suspicious and refused to stop. Carried on to the nearest hospital and jumped out of the car locking the guy inside. Taxi driver is pretty torn up and obviously the guy with the bomb is now in a lot of pieces.
Armed police and negotiators have arrived at a street in the city connected to it and most of the street is evacuated now.
Sounds like they're both pretty torn up.
Some bloke in the hospital reckons he heard the blast, looked at the window and saw the driver getting out AFTER the blast - which seems to contradict most rumours. No idea how he survived if that is the case.

Judging from my brother's experience in the greek police, the riot police and similar units (if that's what you are referring to) are sort of selected to be proper mongs, so that they can be radicalized easily and follow orders strictly.
I meant the losers who go to “cadets” and then parade round town dressed like a traditional Action Man around Remembrance Day, but I think your reasons are still correct.
