Naturally I was curious as to how Rafa's Newcastle side were defensively, and it turns out Bruce took over the 7th best defence in the league and turned it into the worst.

None of these things matter when you've managed 1,000 games.

United have two ways of playing: on the counter against the good teams (Ronaldo is hardly a worse option here than Martial [doesn't run] or Rashford [doesn't think]), and being a rabble that waits for Bruno Fernandes to do something against everybody else. They have never looked organised at any point, and haven't beaten a side with PRESSING since those first few months where they tired themselves out by February, so this stuff about changing the way they play to accommodate him is well off, and I think a lot of it is cover for not noticing how disorganised and shit they have always been.

They’re currently coming to the end of one of those that’s just went on too long.

Fair play to him - it's one thing to defend OGS in one of the most nonsensical ways going, but to work in the way fans are disagreeing with him as being Boris' fault is almost poetic.

Next time he says 'I've never called for a manager to be sacked', somebody should ask him whether he would still have David Moyes in the job. I don't think he even realises that is what he's saying.

He said on sky he never called for Big Ron to be sacked when he was a kid. Wonder how they’d be if he was still in charge to this date, Pogba probably not in the team.

Really not understanding Yevs point. If Steve Bruce doesn’t count as a ‘good’ manager, then are there only about 10-12 managers in world football that we can say are good?

I think his point is more that there are managers who get themselves on the old merry-go-round and manage to milk it forever with very little actual substance to show for it and that in those circumstances longevity isn't necessarily laudable in a footballing sense, which I sort of agree with. In a way Bruce is one of those, but, at the same time, I think he did a pretty decent job at Newcastle, to the extent that he can be credited with where they ended up in the league in his two full seasons [was it]?

Doesn't mean I'd want him at United [of course I want him at United if Ole has to go].

I wouldn't really hold the clean sheets against him when we had to play Freddie Woodman for the first four. Unfortunately, we do seem to have collapses engrained in us. United under Ole have made hard work of games by shipping goals early.

I can't see Bruce playing 5 at the back for United. If he did, he'd at least have the personnel to do it instead of sticking Ritchie out there. I'd only see it on an interim basis but then that got Ole the job with his Pardewesque form feast.

If Erik ten Hag was the coaching equivalent of van de Beek I assume we'd hire him as the first team manager then have him putting out cones for the U18s.

Ferguson apparently wants Ole to stay on and it looks like he's going to be in charge at least til after Saturday, quite possibly til the international break.

The Italian journalists are really pushing the idea he'll be sacked ASAP with Conte to come in. Makes me wonder if Conte is more keen on Utd than Utd are on him.

Having said all that, the British press are always briefed that the manager is staying right up until they are actually sacked so who knows.

Ferguson could have been the manager all these years. He's at every game and function, sticking his nose into things. He should be banned from the stadium.

If his policy is just to go with whoever did a thing that positively impacted his career then maybe the groundsman for the 2008 final is next.

Or Mark Robins. 4th in the Championship.

Conte's agent is driving the rumours and his sister-in-law is actually a columnist at The Independent which is a big help. Utd directors held a meeting with Ole at an undisclosed Costa late last night and it seems like he might take charge of the Spurs game but Pellistri has been leaking the dressing room discontent to the media after him and Cavani's late night FIFA games.
