It's Polish Independence Day and there are so many roads closed in Warsaw with a shit tonne of Police. Loads dressed up in riot gear.

Also, if any of you are ever in Warsaw hunt down Uki Uki: https://www.facebook.com/ukiuki.udon/?epa=SEARCH_BOX

I've been so many times and tonight I found my favourite dish, Tantan Udon. Spicy meat sauce (and lots of it) with udon noodles, a barely cooked egg and some dumplings.

Lets be honest, nobody is going to bother looking for Uki Uki in Warsaw unless some web bird is on the end of it.

The thing I found surprising about Poland is that it's the first country I've been to where you can't get a sandwich. It's a full meal or fuck off.

They don't believe in "closed" sandwiches.

Strong belief in transubstantiation, no belief in sandwiches, an interesting credo.

For long haul flights, what's the value you guys place on the difference between economy/"premium economy"/business class? I'm planning an Asia trip next year and having never had a flight longer than ~4 hours, I have a hard time judging how bearable it is to go as cheap as can be vs. finding a seat that actually gives a chance at some hours of sleep.

Isn't premium economy just what economy used to be, ie. a bit of legroom and your own TV screen? Economy now is like a Bernard Matthews factory.

If you can afford it, business is great for overnight flights. I usually do economy back to UK (day flight) then business back here to Vietnam for night flight.

There's a reason business class is so-named, which is that the people taking it need to be in a state to perform potentially hours or minutes after the flight has landed. If you're going on holiday and don't have unlimited money to burn, I'd just go cattle.

I had an awful economy flight to Bogota earlier in the year and an even worse one back, but even then within 12-24 hours afterwards I was ok.

Asia's great to fly to in economy if you get an overnight (UK time flights) as you'll probably sleep through most of it. Get a window seat, don't drink too much and you'll be able to sit there and sleep unbothered for however long the flight is. That said, I'd recommend everyone experiences business class at least once on a long haul flight as it's phenomenal and as Jimmy alludes to really doesn't feel like you've been on a plane when you get off the other side. Ultimately though, it isn't worth the price.

How much of a downgrade is it on First Class?

We're doing economy to Goa in the new year, 10.30pm departure from Gatwick. Aim is to sleep through as much of it as humanely possible.

I don't think there's a level of tiredness possible that would allow me to sleep on a flight.

Sat upright, in an enclosed space, surrounded by (perhaps even next to) strangers. Those are not sleeping conditions.

Planes seem to make me nod off. I've fallen asleep flying from Belfast to London before.

I flew business class to the US west coast earlier in the year and it was pretty nice. Have to do it again next year but dunno if we'll be allowed business class, probably not. Lucked out last time cause business from Dublin was actually cheaper than premium economy via London which was what we were allowed budget-wise.

I used to be unable to sleep more than 10 minutes on planes. Thankfully recently I've been able to get down although I usually wake up with a painful neck.

Like most things, I think it's about routine. Years ago when I was fly-in, fly-out weekly, I could get on the plane (in economy) and fall asleep straight away just because the whole process became so dull and routine.

These days flying is either for holidays or one-off trips, so the out-of-routine alertness you need to keep or just excitement of going somewhere new makes it hard to fall asleep on the plane.

Never flown business or first class, but I'm sure it helps...

Even flying back from Cuba at 2am I didn't fall asleep. I saved that for the drive home, where my wife had to repeatedly shout at me until I eventually gave in and just had a nap in a service station carpark.

My wife, on the other hand, can sit-down and fall asleep before takeoff.

Honestly, if I had a Genie in a lamp, my first wish would be the ability to fall asleep whenever I wanted to.

Going to Rome for 2 nights in a couple of weeks.

What should be on the list of things to visit/see?

Colosseum, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain and Vatican City are already on it.

The Vatican museum is mind-blowing. Just wall-to-wall incredibly old, incredibly important artifacts. I don't know quite what it was but it absolutely has an aura.

Also, the gelato at this place:
    https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restau...ome_Lazio.html

is the best I've ever had by far. We found it on our first night a few minutes walk from our hotel. It's down some dingy residential side street near a park in the area where the prostitutes hang out and it looks like a dodgy corner shop. Even if you're an hour away over the other side of the City I'd still make the effort to go there.

I'd go to the Pantheon as early as possible, it was rammed one afternoon but the next morning you could walk straight in. Palatine Hill was great too as it was similarly peaceful and when going in you can buy a combination ticket that lets you access the Colosseum without having to join a massive queue there first.

Was at the preserved ruins of Herculaneum today. It's pretty staggering to see perfectly preserved artefacts from 2000 years ago, definitely worth a visit. We're probably going to visit Pompei in a few days as well to round it off.

I'm at that time in my life where I need to consider a child when booking holidays.

Any tips on which websites to use for package holidays for us and a child approaching two years old? General tips for locations (~3 hour flight max ideally), hotels, all that good stuff?

I found a few last night but I'm fucked if I know what I'm looking at. Luckily we can go during term time.

Rome is amazing and the sheer scale of Pompei blew my mind. That said, seeing the latter involved a trip to Naples, which I maintain is the worst first World town/city I have ever been to and by some margin.

We loved Rabac in Croatia. Beautiful scenery, a land train into town and weather is perfect for young kids in the summer months. High 20's to low 30's.

We went to Pantheon today after visiting the Colosseum, the Forum and Palatine Hill yesterday. You really could spend hours in each and barely scratch the surface. Also visited church of St Agnes and St Antonio which are absolutely stunning. What a place this is.

    You going to the Vatican?

I've got Vatican tickets booked and will be doing Colosseum tickets today (sadly the underground tickets are out so I'll have to make do with arena ones).

No - we decided to leave it as the queues can be pretty lengthy. We booked a walking tour on booking.com for the Colosseum.

Eating at Felice a Testaccio this evening. Apparently excellent for Cacio e Pepe.
