One thing I discovered while scouring that list is that it's never Toy Story (which I would have counted as original) that makes all the money, it's Toy Story 2, 3, 4, 5 and why wouldn't you just keep making them forever?

Bond was 50 years ahead of the game on this.

Looking at what I've seen at Letterboxd, this would be my list but I'm probably missing something. There's also a ton of likely great movies that I haven't seen:

    A Separation
    Blade Runner 2049
    Phantom Thread
    Spotlight
    Silence
    The Square
    Edge of Tomorrow
    Sicario
    La Grande Bellezza

    Honorable mentions:

    Neon Demon
    Easy A
    About Time
    Locke
    Midnight In Paris
    Hell or High Water

I'd forgotten how awful the flashback part of Bloodsport is.

    What a film, though

What was the stock TTH one that was always greatest film of all time here (or the old board)? I would have thought La Haine but if that’s this decade it might be too new. I think it was a foreign one.

La Haine is from the mid nineties. I reckon you're thinking of Oldboy, but there's never been a 'stock TTH' best film ever, and if there was it would have been Shawshank Redemption as it always will be everywhere.

I did TV show one once (2007, was it?) and while I can't recall what won it was a comedy and learnt then that it always will be.

Pavel tried it with films and completely fisted it.

I used to (and still do) champion La Haine but there's no way it was a stock TTH best film ever, the majority probably haven't seen it.

From memory, Shawshank and the various early Tarantino efforts used to fill the top few places in people's estimation. I'm a Coens man myself.

I wanna say there was a lot of raving about A prophet at some point in time.

As far as subtitle jobs go anyway, could have been that.

I watched Justice League last night.

I know a lot of reviews would have made it clear that I needn't bother but having watched it for myself I can honestly say that they were right.

One of many issues is that it seems like once Superman woke up the others could have all gone and put their feet up.

I thought The Irishman was a bit of a let down. It's decent, but there is nothing particularly memorable about it, and I've just been wondering what the point of it was other than to make it before one or more of them died.

I'm watching 6 Underground on Netflix - some Michael Bay thing. It is absolute fucking nonsense. Even Ryan Reynolds and Adria Arjona (drool) can't make it anything more than a screensaver filled with explosions. All the characters are outrageously clichéd.

This has kind of always been an issue with Superman in general. He's just basically a little too good as a superhero for it to ever be interesting. And because he literally only has one weakness and everybody knows it, the only way to beat him is always the exact same - trick him into, ooops, eating some kryptonite cheese or whatever.

So either the films he's in are stupid because he's too good for his opponent (or allies), or they are stupid because he's getting beat by Lex Luthor who is basically just a petulant version of Batman without the costume which is even more stupid because how can Superman possibly lose to that.

Watched The King last night. Bloody good film if bleak Medieval period pieces are your thing (interspersed with some fighting). It's based on the succession of Henry V (so naturally builds towards Agincourt), but has more in common with Shakespeare's Henry than the actual one. Time well spent.

I was tempted by that the other night but decided Chalamet has too much of a toyboy face to inhabit Prince Hal, I will give it a go if it's worthwhile though.

Knives Out is good fun. It's a murder mystery with a big house, a big family, and a lot of exposition. It's Columbo with a top line cast. In fact if someone had submitted the script for this film to the Columbo producers they'd have been put in charge of whichever American channel showed that program.

Okay, some I'm watching The Disaster Artist and ... I really fucking hate Tommy Wiseau and Greg Sestero. Actually, fuck all the people involved. Especially who glued a beard to Dave Franco.

I watched Kong: Skull Island last night and for a "big monsters smash shit about film" I quite enjoyed it. And it has one of those casts where it feels like I recognise about 80% of the people in it.

Comparing it to the Peter Jackson one it misses out a bit by not having a fight against three t-rexes but it also gains by not being 17 hours long.
