You really can't beat a burger (not that one), but the aesthetic of burger places now is mostly sickening. I went in one in Oxford that looked like a spoilt bastard's bedroom from 1993 and it was like when John Malkovich goes into his own head except everybody was igor.
I went to a burger restaurant in London that was decorated like a butchers, with fake blood up the wall and newspaper clippings about vegans. Apparently you have to be an edgelord to open a burger restaurant these days.

You'd have to think that this whole business is going to form some sort of case study in how not to go about things in a potentially high profile missing person situation from a police perspective.
Yeah, they fucked up massively. You don't go around telling all and sundry that she fell in by accident if a quick chat with the family reveals that she's got those sort of issues.
So given the issues, what do we think now? Done a runner?
To be fair to the police a normal missing persons case I don't think this is an issue. When the internet runs with it and you have tik tok cunts attempting to break into houses and videoing residents on the street telling thousands of viewers they are suspects, you have to try and put a lid on it somehow. I think there will be some kind of reform on the back of this, because it will happen again at some point.

But the reason this blew up to such a massive degree was that she was painted as someone who was very happy with her life who supposedly (as a strong swimmer) fell into a two feet deep river and drowned. Take those two things away and there's no way the whole thing goes viral.

They fucked it before the internet got anywhere near it and for me, were partly responsible for the internet getting involved. "She's vanished, we don't believe a 3rd party was involved but we're concerned for her safety" and it's job done. Everyone knows what that last line means without it specifically saying so. Instead, they kept parroting their insistence that she "fell in", which sounds far too accidental and preposterous when you see the setting. The family didn't believe that (presumably influenced by information they were privy to) so disputed it (in the hope someone had seen her elsewhere) and it just kept going.
I can only assume the police were keeping avenues open. Like it was probable she killed herself but they couldn't rule out the husband offing her or something. So you get this mess. I don't know how policing works but I've seen plenty of The Bill.

I agree with that to some extent. The family have understandably been very keen for her to stay in the public eye, but only so long as anything hurtful isn't said, which isn't really the way the World works and anyone speculating that she killed herself, may well have been right.
