It's probably better not to think about it at all. It's messed up.

Goalkeepers in general. The money they're on they should be saving every shot (except where the shot comes from somebody on more than them, as the expectation there is that they score every shot).

It's all well and good discussing what different men earn but you're forgetting about the gender pay gap. Now that is a travesty.

Yeah, female football players should be massively overpaid too.

    Then get their wages capped.

After Man Utd signed Lee Grant as a third choice. I went and checked out the original Stuart 'The Third Choice' Taylor. He left Southampton at the end of the season with zero league appearances. His career has gone across three decades. He still made more league appearances in an Arsenal shirt (18) than any other team he ever played for in the league. What a legend.

Elon Musk has had to come out and say they hadn't even managed to get on a plane there yet. It'd be a good metaphor worth mentioning on Twitter if it wasn't a hate crime.

I am going to try this again.

This story is news, but it’s not journalism. It takes up space in people’s local/regional media and generates interest in a cause that is not actionable by a community. The space and subsequent attention could instead be directed stories that call people to action like “council wastes money on x” or “volunteer shortage at shelter”.

This points towards larger issues in journalism and media with newspaper congolomerates, reduced funding for journalism, and the advertising-based information economy.

Panda, do you have something big in your life going on that nobody's paying attention to? Is that what this is about?

Because you have a bunch of kids trapped in a wild situation where they might die. It hits empathy, novelty and mortality all at once.

I don’t find it surprising that it is being widely reported—I just don’t believe that it’s a valuable story to report.

Now that you know the situation, what impact does it have upon you radiating outward to your community, city, region, country? None. On a going forward basis in terms of justice or policy, what is there to advocate for? Nothing beyond “caves are scary”.

This story is the exact opposite of hearing “thirteen kids in Syria might get shot”. That one wouldn’t be interesting as we expect it in a no-longer-novel war zone, but there’s plenty of room for advocacy.

Is there actually less money for journalism, or does it just go to wankers writing their opinions? Where did I read some esteemed journalism professor (lol) complaining that all of their students just want to write about themselves now rather than secretly film corrupt England managers? I don't care. I can't. Not when these poor kids are trapped, and footballers are sucking the country dry.

No, but I'm doubling down on a poorly written first post to the thread.

    Media!! :Panda:

10,000 die in tragic blimp accident qualifies as worthwhile due to its scale and the fact that people actually died.

"Twelve Thai kids may or may not die, we'll let you know later" is a news item, but it shouldn't be dominating the headlines.

I don't think it's a big story because people are particularly empathising with them. There's just loads of facets of it that you can talk about without having to think very much, and that's really what most people want. It's a real life cliffhanger.

I don’t know who he is or what he does so I’m a bit stuck here.

I do like his Phonics annoying policy, but he does seem like a bit self important. Difficult.
