I think Dark Knight is very good until Joker's dealt with. Eckhart is really good and was on form at that time but when Joker's dealt with the film loses momentum.

Begins is fun while also feeling more disposable, and also features the inexplicable casting of Katie Holmes.

Basically Dark Knight should have sacked all that Two Face stuff after he's hurt and made him the baddie of Rises instead of all the shit he actually went for.

Talking of weak endings, I watched No Country for Old Men for the first time in ages the other night. It's an incredible film up until the last 20 minutes or so when it completely and utterly shits the bed.

Nothing happens? It's literally set piece after set piece.

Watched The Prestige last night, one of my favourite films. The 4K disc really comes into it's own during the Tesla scenes.

Is Begins the one where he has a broken back and he fixes it by working out?

They're all fucking awful films. The third is laughable.

I mean, they can smarten it up all they like but it's still comic book fiction. I like the trilogy for the slightly smarter bollocks it is.

We didn't get an Anne Hathaway in a catsuit but you can't have everything.

Just watched Mario on a SUPERSCREEN and my main takeaway is it was very loud. Meh, it was alright, and probably better than the myriad comic book films that entirely populated the trailers and that other Mario film they made where the goombas were hard men bouncer types. Enough nostalgia to offset what is a pretty dull film.

That's Rises, which is poor and you can tell he was bored of it by then. The Prestige or Interstellar the best Nolan efforts for me.

My kids enjoyed it, but yeah, I felt similar. Was fun in places but largely "meh".

The Last Kingdom film just felt like more of the same, not a bad thing but I'd have liked to see them try and make it more cinematic than essentially 'here's a longer episode' like Sharpe.

Got my hands on a good copy of Ant-Man: Quantumania over the weekend and I'd like the time back...

I feel Majors comes across well as Kang but that doesn't really matter any more considering he's about to get fired.

I haven't seen it but also think it is a bit weird he is the big bad for this 'phase' and they shot their load early. The original stuff worked so well because Thanos turns up late and when he does turn up he gets shit done.

    This seems about right.

Cinemagoers in the south east must be much noisier because nobody's ever talking to each other loudly enough for me to hear their opinions when I'm leaving after the film.

If the screen has a row of seats above the entrace I like to sit there - usually 2-4 seats off to the side, great when you've got kids so they can spread out a bit and far enough away from the rest of the general public.

Middle of the row means no one should really come past you as there's usually stairs on both sides. You don't want to go all the way at the back because the chavs and riff raff like to do that. You also don't want to be near the front for obvious reasons.

That looks very bad. The concept is bad anyway, before you get to the trailer having the whole plot in it, telling their target audience they're fat losers and Orlando Bloom trying to bring gravitas to saying "Gran Turismo."

According to their website the GT Academy still runs. All they had to do was run another TV series of that. Or cut up the 2016 series this is obviously based on.

A good buck to the trend of the downward spiralling MCU quality.

Nope. Was banking on going cinema for it but busy as fuck next few weeks. It should be 'out' early to mid June so will watch then.

    Hyped for it though.

Showcase cinema this time, as Odeon only doing evening screenings as if it’s not a children’s film.

    Magnolia

The one PTA I hadn't seen. For years I thought I had, don't know why, hazy memory with age.

This is a proper film. Fucking amazing. Every actor is on it. So so good. Julianne Moore is probably the stand out, Cruise as the sleazy men's guru absolutely wrought up with anguish, Macy so incredibly hopeless and lost.

Loved that ending too and the way it all wraps and morphs together.

The Master still sits as my favourite PTA due to Phoenix and Hoffman tearing up the screen, but what a phenomenal way to spend three hours.
