They didn't have five clear chances at all.

That was the most comfortable I have felt watching England in a big game, in total control the whole game. Fantastic performance and what a feeling. The country is going to be absolutely buzzing.

Aye, they've been complete walkovers so far. They'll only have beaten Spain and Croatia, complete chancers.

Mandzukic had time to stop and fire off a couple of texts there. Russian defence absolutely nowhere.

What were you watching? If it was Hart instead of Pickford you would have lost

I'd be wary of the Russians sending a complementary box of tea before the game.

If it was Bobby Charlton instead of Sterling we would have had five.

Pickford made one good save. The header was a fairly simple save.

If you are going down that route then Sterling could have had a couple. England were by fair the better team.

I am still interested on what those 5 clear chances that the Swedes had were. I remember the Berg header and the shot from Claesson or whoever that was and the half chance from Berg, but that's about it.

    Mugbull.

Russia are up for this and very direct. Not sure how we'd cope with that but we'd get plenty of possession. Croatia still seem a little out of sorts. I hope that, the longer this goes on, the more 'Balkan State' this gets.

I didn't watch Croatia vs Iceland, but they definitely were mediocre against Nigeria as well. They haven't been all that good really, apart from the game against Argentina, where let's not forget they were gifted a goal by good ole Willy and then had to play against an open defence.

The thought that that header was a simple save is absurd, it was an unbelievable save.

England were the better team but they were not solid in defense nor sharp in attack and their midfield was never incisive. It was good enough but idk why everyone reacted so much more negatively after Colombia, when they didn’t even get to properly play

Yeah, post a full match replay and i’ll give you some time stamps. Wanna link a GIF of the “routine save” while you’re at it

Three chances and the save from the header was solid but you would be surprised if he didn't make it.

That's been a surprisingly good game. Not a great game mind you, but it's good fun.

Worth noting that France-Denmark is still the only 0-0 in the tournament. I blame Australia for not beating the Danes for that one.

I don't think England were amazing, but the gulf in class was pretty obvious to me. It was incredibly comfortable, and not once during the game did I think it was in any doubt. Sweden were pretty rubbish, mind.

Me and my pal both agreed it felt a bit flat, like we were watching a game in the group stage or something, but I quite enjoyed how relaxed and almost BORED I felt after the stress of Colombia.

That is credit to England though. They controlled the game and never looked in too much danger. I felt confident all game and that's not like me.

    agreed 100%.

it's amazing how important a settled team and coherent SYSTEM is for international tournaments. we've rarely looked exhilarating, on paper the squad isn't particularly great but the players know where they're supposed to be and what they're supposed to be doing, and we're brilliant from set pieces. people trying to argue that we've not been that good are sort of missing the point. I think this IS what "good" looks like in the context of world cups.

I mean, we controlled Columbia until the last 15. Not that they came to play much. Finished An Impossible Job, too. Sure I've seen it before but it really, really hammers home how passionate Taylor was, even if he didn't really have two decent assistants to bounce ideas off.

I'm relieved to know Rob Shepherd got 14 months for trying to murder someone in a wine bar, too. Now works for TalkSport. Of course he does.

It's comfortably the least I've hated England, football and myself watching an England tournament game in a long time.

Not sure what I'd prefer here. Croatia is the far better team so probably them going through. Some dodgy corrupt-looking proceedings would also do.

Nailing the goalkeeper with a tranquilliser is a genius move.
