It wont stop me voting greens but the people in Brisbane at least wont be stopping any new mines being built.

A few years ago, our council slapped a load of solar panels on the the council housing around (and including) my parents' place. I'm kind of surprised that hasn't become more of a thing with new builds.

You have to put them on all new builds here.

Yep, I don't think I've seen a new build house without a solar panel in a long time. The roof of the church near me was rebuilt a couple of years ago and even that is covered in solar panels now.

My sister in law has just bought a new build and I'm pretty sure there's no solar panels on it.

There's new builds springing up on every available blade of grass here and I don't think I've seen solar panels on any of them, actually.

You say we have to change our lives, but it's actually just x amount of businesses polluting for fun in an economic vacuum. If we can get rid of fossil fuels then we don't have to alter a thing.

The way that article goes you wonder if they're actually going to lay the blame at all the plants and animals that died to make all that oil and coal in the first place.

I swear growing up we used to get the odd article about how we'd all run out of crude in 30-50 years. Although they probably just found some more oil.

Yes, every time we're 'about to run out' we just find more. We might run out at some point, of course, but we won't get to see that.

My misusses just told me that she knows of 17 women so far who have had their chemo or radiotherapy appointments pushed back at the Mater this morning because of the protests on the South East Freeway on ramps and off ramps aswell as the dozens of street closures in the city. Lol

I've been so busy at work lately, I've largely missed what they're doing.

It's peaceful demo's right? So why are people being asked to stay away from their workplaces?

And what do your work do that's particularly met with their ire Kik's?

I don't see why they're opposed to people making the most of their land to be honest. As long as they have the proper planning permission, anyway.

What is the end game for extinction rebellion? A return to pre-industrialised society? Which extinction are they rebelling against anyway? If it's our own, I don't think carbon neutrality is going to have much say in that, if it's the one that's been going on pretty much since we pitched up and started chucking sticks at all the other megafauna, well, again, probably pissing in the wind, most of those dudes are already gone and their replacements aren't going to come along whilst we're around.

We "invest in fossil fuel industries". While peaceful, it would probably be awkward to get in and out.

So these comic book fiends are up in arms about Martin Scorsese not liking their little nerdfics.

One such fiend posted a facebook status today to the tune of "Oh... am I really going to take film nuance advice from a guy who let a literal rat run across the screen at the end of Departed?!"

to which I honestly thought hey wait I've seen that movie like 50 times what is he talking about? Then saw all of these fucking petitions to get the rat removed and all of this shit.

Imagine that. Martin Scorsese, not someone whose advice you take w/r/t film.... because he doesn't enjoy your comic book movies?

    I'm just.....

Well, if a person's frame of reference for a Scorsese film is The Departed then that probably tells you all you need to know about them.

But that's half of it. The only reason this guy brought that up is because he probably googled Martin Scorsese and saw people complaining about said rat and thought it was some sort of widely accepted commentary as opposed to a much smaller group of pedantic losers trying to ruin a perfectly good film with their own (extraordinary ironic) snobbery.

Imagine cinema snobbing off The Departed because you thought a rat was too IN YOUR FACE just so you can in turn call Martin Scorsese himself a cinema snob because he thinks comic book movies are trash.

You've literally suspended disbelief and logic for what, 48 hours just so you can cheer on CaPtAiN aMeRiCa but FUCK a scene where a rat slowly crawls across a picturesque frame of the Massachusetts State Building which, even if not exactly subtle, probably speaks louder in 5 seconds than all 48 fucking hours of ha durr "i LoVe YoU fIvE tHOuSaNd" bullshit!

Superhero movies are the worst social phenomenon of the last decade or so. They used to come out like once every few years and you could deal with it. Now it’s all Hollywood produces. There’s nothing good about them. I assume there’s a similar explanation for why WWE is popular, but I’m not sure what that is

It can't be nostalgia driving superhero films when they have a far bigger audience than the nerd comics ever did.

There were still superhero TV shows and films back then, though. You might have a few new players these days but it'll still instill a decent hit of nostalgia.

WWE is more popular in older age groups but mainly because it's bad not because wrestling is just about nostalgia. Marvel films are popular because someone already did the hard work, it's multiple decades of established characters with existing storylines. All they had to do was find a few good looking people to play everyone, make them sufficiently appealing to the action film crowd, and keep cranking them out. It's easy money compared to making something original.

It is in no way nostalgia driving them, considering the main reason they make bombshells worth of money is China.

America sells. I looked briefly into Chinese superheroes but their Batman and Superman equivalents have only been going for 3 years.
