I don't think it's that pointless. Anybody who is told they have a high temperature then goes for a actual test, self-isolates, or submits to a quarantine center. It seems to be a quick and easy way to possibly detect it. The lack of spread here would also indicate that it is working (amongst a lot of other factors).

Quick and you don't have to worry about having a hard limit on your day's testing.

Dr Cortellaro went on to say how coronavirus patients arrive on their own, and "when they are about to die, they sense it".

"They are lucid, they do not go into narcolepsy. It is as if they were drowning, but with time to understand it," he said.
    Fuck. That.

All bars, restaurants, karaoke, beer clubs, nightclubs and hotel F&B outlets shut in District 1 from 6pm today. Other districts expected to follow suit. Booooored.

We need to stop thinking like this.

And they're giving out food to the quarantined so it stops all this panic buying shit we have.

That said I've just headed into the city to see the shutdown take place. It's happening but it's still a bit edgy. Could kick off.

I've just been the shop and it was busy but decidedly non-apocalyptic. There was even some loo roll still on the shelves, some of it hardly used which is pretty good for Hamilton.

I'm not sure how you interrogate an approach with statistics gathered from unrelated approaches. It's a bit like saying that people who owe their Twitter prominence to backing a bloke who lost two elections are bound to be getting this all wrong.

What so because we're taking a different approach of getting the majority of the population infected the death rate is going to change?

I knew when I saw you posted it'd be about who tweeted it. I'd have posted the video on its own if I could. Who tweeted it is irrelevant.

Also if we're not testing everyone how are people supposed to know whether they've had it and are now supposedly immune (something we're also not sure definitely happens or how long it lasts for yet either)?

I mean, they're pulling this in the delay phase with all the measures that comes with it. They're still looking to flatten the curve but I'm not sure about the one-week quarantine. I guess that frees up the NHS a little but you run the risk of some relapses.

That seems to be the assumption. They might be wrong. Who knows? But having a background announcing 277000 deaths as part of 'UK PLANS' is misleading on various levels, and something which the sort of people who thought Newsnight edited a hat to make Jeremy Corbyn look like a Russian stooge would normally be all over were it not feeding their existing feelings.

Also, the mongs who are calling our media are shit are all over the 'u-turn' news today, which 1) isn't news; and 2) isn't a reversal of policy.

In other news, I notice Bitcoin has completely shat this all out. Wasn't it meant for things like this?

I'm still trying to decide whether to isolate. I have the mildest of mild temperatures (like, one shiver an hour). I had the mildest of mild sore throats last night, but that's gone. No other symptoms.

In normal times I would barely notice it, but now it could be mass murder if I even put the bins out.

Wandering around Carmarthen today and lots of food on the shelves, bog roll still readily available. The town itself is still pretty busy. Complete contrast to the panic I would assume happening if I just stuck to the internet.

Presumably the government are factoring in a massive expansion of the birth rate in 9 months time with nothing else for people to do with themselves, which should easily offset the death toll.

Without wanting to spoil the fun, though, isn't the mortality rate more driven by relative availability of appropriate healthcare than, necessarily, by the deadliness of the illness itself?

Personally I think they should have used that study Kiko linked to where if you take total deaths to date, and divide them by how many cases we knew about 3 months ago you get a mortality rate well in excess of 100%.

Going to be great this, if you’re willing to take a little bit of risk and back yourself to recover if you do catch it.

Went to Walmart this morning. The toilet roll was, unsurprisingly, all gone, but there were out of other items: Arizona iced tea, all kinds of chips, those instant microwave soups, most pasta (except De Cecco, which is the one we get). I think that was it.

Someone told me the toilet roll thing is because the Mayor of Wuhan, apropos of nothing at all, said something along the lines of "don't worry, we're not going to run out of toilet paper" and, obviously, everyone took that to mean quite the opposite. Sounded apocryphal to me, but I'd like it to be true.

Backing yourself to recover isn't really the point. It's that there's a chance you might kill someone.

    Definitely.

Cat litter was also running quite low, so I grabbed a few bins.

In other news, rumors are going around that some students refuse to leave and have rented apartments in town and are planning to throw a massive party today.

As a result of the travel restrictions imposed on all foreign flights announced by the Governments of Poland and Moldova effective as of 00:00 HRS March 15, 2020, we will be suspending all our flights to and from Poland and Moldova until further notice. At this time no foreign citizens will be allowed to enter Poland or Moldova, while Polish citizens arriving to Poland from abroad will be placed in quarantine.
Also, Polish people who fly back into Poland are subject to a 14 day quarantine.
