Seemed more like a journalist being pissed off after a shitty interview than being partisan about something.

What's the difference between a broadcaster with an obligation to be impartial and a politician not being good at their job, or what's the difference between being able to vote a politician out and counting on the Channel 4 management to make a decision that they obviously won't because there is no penalty for not doing it? If there is no difference between the two then you don't even have a point, because how can you criticise politicians when you don't even expect broadcasters to do their jobs properly?

Imagine holding people in power to higher standards than a bloke that reads the news. Free speech indeed.

A "very senior Tory MP" has told BBC's Chris Mason that there'll be a general election soon.

There is only one 'very senior Tory MP' left, which is Jeremy Hunt MP, Thane of Glamis.

I lolled at Boris Johnson now being a backbench rebel.

Yeah I've been trying to work this out - weirdly I think she would win a confidence motion right now, purely to protect Tory MPs' jobs/incomes, even though they clearly have no confidence in her.

The only other route would be someone like Gove taking over as caretaker PM and then calling an election in the national interest, taking the ship down with him, though even that would need a two-thirds Commons majority.

We live in a representative democracy, which mostly works pretty well. Move to direct democracy and we'll be hanging the blacks and bombing St Petersburg.

    Hello. How are we all?

This is hilarious. The scum and vermin are on the way out, hopefully permanently.

Who's been defending them on here? Own up.

Aye but the scum and vermin in the Labour party control it now so they're on their way in.

But Lewis has, as you'd expect.

    Henners!

At this point (and for quite some time) it's only been Lewis defending them, although people on the left (as Boydy demonstrates) still aren't happy at the prospect of a party far more aligned with them being in power.

Is Lewis actually being Top Tory or is he just being contrary like he tends to? Sure, he's usually that way inclined but even he can't defend some of the recent guff in good faith.

No he's trying to come across as professional because he works in THE INDUSTRY and the career path he's chosen is an absolute laughing stock.

Because nothing will fundamentally change. They'll make some tweaks around the edges and that'll be it.

And I'll also never forgive them for actively wrecking when they weren't in control of the party. That's all they care about, them being in charge.

I think that New New Labour will bring minimal competence and will stop some of the more dodgy right-wing stuff that the Tories are pushing (freeports etc.) but yeah, they won't be great either and aren't going to address the structural issues.

Still, best enjoy this implosion while we can. It's only 11 o'clock. Hoping for another day like yesterday. Twitter is great for getting the inside story, I find. Looking like they were going to give her until the end of the month, but that's now in some doubt.

I know a couple of Tories/follow them on Twitter, and they've been doing the same squirming desperately trying to find the positives in anything the party has been doing as Lewis. It's glorious.

Surely as we have seen with this current debacle going to far one way or the other is a massive problem.

With Starmer if he can steady the ship for a couple of years then start to increase spending on infrastructure and services then people will see the benefits(as they did under Blair/Brown). Labour didn’t lose in 2010 because of the financial crisis they lost because Brown was foisted on the country without a GE and then the financial crisis happened. If he had taken the GE when he should have done he would have won, the Tories will find out shortly you put someone in who hasn’t been voted in without good reason you are fucked(especially if they turn out to be as incompetent as Truss).

The Bojo return really does seem the only way out for Tories which begs the question, just how much of this shambles was planned with it in mind.

It really is quite bad that there's no way to trigger an election when the government is this much of a fucking shambles though.

There is, two thirds commons majority for one. Take out the shinners/speaker and the number you need is 321. Opposition MPs minus the shinners total 231, excluding the 13 'independents' which is a genuinely hilarious lineup of sex pests and miscreants. So you need about 90 of the 357 Tories to vote for it.

Someone has been watching too much PMQs, you're not the speaker of the TTH House mate. But to clarify my most unparliamentary language, I don't actually want @Lewis to kill himself, or even to consider it really. Maybe stub his toe or something.

Leadership election to be completed in a week apparently. Presuming they have someone lined up?
