I had a Big Mac recently for the first time in donkeys and reckon it's really underrated as a thing.

Sometimes it's hard to beat a McDonalds. I rarely have burger as you have to ask them if you don't want vegetables and it's faff, but chicken selects and the breakfast muffins are things of beauty.

I had In N Out when I was in America a few years ago and it blew Five Guys away. I doubt they'll ever export it, though.

Are Bunsen and Bobos things over there? The former is pretentious hipster as fuck but the burgers are lovely.

If you go to one with the touch screen ordering (which I assume must be most of them by now) you can remove anything you don't want on there via the actual self service screen and then juts pick up the end product when they call your number. They've never messed it up once in my experience.

They always make you park in the tiny yellow box if you order that.

Five Guys, pure grease and gross fries. In N Out is great for sure, the burgers are like halfway between sliders and proper burgers so you could go into In N Out hungry and order 3 and you'd be fine. I love their fries too though a lot of people don't.

I never really understood the 'infinite possibilities' their menu offered when I went there (although I thought it was decent enough).

I'm sure most people just go there for the pop culture references.

There used to be some place in Austin a dickhead used to want us to queue at about 3 times a week for a burger. It wasn't bad but it was about an hour each time and there was a Wendy's up the road. The burger was grand but triple baconator all the way after that a couple of times.

EDIT: Hopdoddy. Describes itself as a 'hip, eco-friendly burger joint'. Ugh.

I'll never forget my sole visit to a Wendy's as a 13 year old and my mum asking in full loud, posh English voice: 'Excuse me, if you don't mind my asking, but what exactly are curly fries?'

I had a delivery from a burger place at the weekend and the options for chips were salted, lemon (indistinguishable), or rosemary (odd but not terrible).

Never had that. I also like waffle fries, but my favorite type of fries are regular ones when they are really crispy.

They're not very good. I don't really dislike them, but I will take a regular potato over a sweet one every single time.

The popularity of sweet potato fries is a real head scratcher for me. At best they're the sort of thing you'd eat as a potato substitute on some fad diet.

    How are you getting them?

They can be soggy if not done correctly, which can be a bit of a pain.

Sweet Potato fries seem to go cold a lot quicker than normal chips. They're usually luke warm when they arrive.

People misunderstand Five Guys. The lack of a plate/having to sit down and get your order taken is the best bit. In and out in 20 minutes.

    Sweet potato fries are shit.
