Mendy is also remanded in custody awaiting trial so I'd suggest the burden of evidence against him is probably quite high, although I don't pretend to know exactly how stuff like that works. Even so, innocent until proven guilty.
Having done a quick search, it's telling that there's only one comment in this thread as far as I can see on Mendy's rape charges and it's about him having a meltdown because he thought he would be in the VIP wing. That despite his arrest being much more recent than anything that happened with Ronaldo and him being actually held in prison awaiting trial.

For the clarity of doubt, if Ronaldo signed for city I would have said it was in brand for that team full of molesters and rapists. But he didn't so hands off.
I don't wish to defend RL's fanboyism, but I can absolutely see why Ronaldo settled out of court without necessarily being guilty.
Time is the most valuable commodity any of us have and he was able to pay to protect his because he can quite easily afford it. In addition the trial itself would have no doubt shed a lot of light on his personal life, which let's face it is fucking odd without anyone really having even scratched the surface of it and at the end of it all there was a chance (no matter how small) he could have gone to prison. Even if he didn't, the no smoke without fire stuff is always there.
I'd like to think if I was innocent and accused of such a crime I'd do everything I could to clear my name, but then I'm not a millionaire hundreds of times over and I can see how it would be very tempting to make all of the above (bar no smoke without fire, which you'll never lose either way) go away.
