We are back to normal and actually took the stupid signs down today. Anyone still milking it wants their department closing.

Last night, a spokesperson for the Premier said she was delighted with the federal government's agreement to the deployment, but the timing of the soldiers' arrival was still to be finalised.

I doubt I’ll be back in the office until early next year if ever at all again.

WFH is the greatest thing ever.

The NSW Government reckon they will be over 1000 cases a day come next week.

We're entering a stricter lockdown on Monday for 2 weeks. Considering our current lockdown only allows us only to leave our gaff for food (using vouchers assigned for certain days), the next lockdown should be fun. Rumours that the military will be on street to enforce a complete lockdown with no one leaving their homes. Oh fun.

The government are rightly taking a kicking for this, and their decision to fuck around procuring vaccines is gonna come back an bite them big time.

How is your day to day going?

I'm still massive fan of those vouchers assigned for a certain day and shop. The Eastern Suburbs of Sydney deserve at least that for fucking up the whole State.

Much as it may amuse you to think it, it's not really the people who have fucked it up in Australia.

Also, considering your stance on various demographics I'm not sure you should be pining so much for zero covid (I appreciate there are probably concerns closer to home that may inform your viewpoint).

I really only amuse myself on here, in the real world I refuse to talk about covid. Both the NSW and Federal Liberal Party (and the media both mainstream and Murdoch) are all responsible for the current state of things.

When Labor gets in next year they will without a doubt push for a Royal Commission into the Liberal Party's handling of the current outbreak.

I also don't believe in zero covid we should open up forever after the acceptable amount of people have been vaccinated.

Untill that happens we need to protect the ICUs around the Country. We have fuck all from my understanding.

It's not too bad. We have a supermarket within our apartment complex that is a life saver. Apart from that, it's just boring. Work is pretty stressful, trying to keep things open and make sure nobody loses their job.

The army have arrived, which seems like a little overkill to me.

Back to normal for the last couple of weeks which means a lockdown is around the corner.

I'm sure the QLD Government would love to some of that razor? Wire.

Just flown to London for a wedding this weekend, then had a phone call from girlfriend's brother to say he's tested positive today after we saw him yesterday.

I'm double jabbed, she's not. Is she supposed to shack up in a hotel for a week?

The contact rules are different now aren't they? i.e. she can do lateral flows and it's alright if she's negative. In England, anyway, which you are now in.

Or do you have to be double jabbed for that?

I think you have to be double jabbed, but just take a test and enjoy yourself. The shite is everywhere anyway.

PCR tests if you are self-isolating as a contact

If your PCR test result is negative, you should still stay at home and self-isolate to avoid putting others at risk, unless you are not required to do so. This is because you could still become infectious during the 10 day isolation period.

Seems utterly pointless taking the test in the first place if one is then expected to do that.

We should be at "take a test if you feel ill, stay at home if it's positive" level now. It's all a bit silly bollocks at the moment.

The problem is that it's really not a great look if we rock up knowing we may have covid and all the grannies end up dying. It's a PR issue.

I think you're getting confused, it's not about what makes sense, it's about taking the required number of arbitrary steps that you can to appease others and yourself that you're being sensible. See Baz's tale of the ex director of health strategy and pandemic law and her fantastic quote.

Brighton needs a right fascist running it to give it a lick of paint, kick the deadheads around, and make sure the bins actually get collected. The entire city stinks of piss and/or weed.

Well he looked down at my music taste
He said "I'll give you one dollar"
I said you've got to be jokin' man
It was a present from me mother

He said "I like it, I want it
I'll take it off your hands
And you'll be sorry you crossed me
You'd better understand that you're alone
    A long way from home

    etc.

Nice to see Lewis is fond of Brighton.

There are, like most places, positives and negatives but the general vibe (man) is great. The houses are also more beautiful than any other English city's* I'd argue.

*I have been to about five cities.

I like Brighton, it just needs a good wash. A lot of it is probably down to it being too expensive for the people who live there (Bath is a similar story), but overflowing bins and piss smell are very much solvable problems.

Lewis is bang on with the smells, but there's also chip fat as the third smell you'll come across very, very often.

From what I've seen on Reddit a lot of people are pretty angry with the Greens at the moment so I'd expect a change in the next election. It's a great city but it depends what you're looking for. It's very friendly and an amazing night out, but it's run down, expensive and has a seedy underbelly that gets ignored. It's basically a city trying to be a festival.

Portsmouth is also a bit similar. It's the most densely-populated city in the country, and the locals would rather die than ever leave it, so they all live in crummy terraced houses with a downstairs bathroom and damp problems, and then the 'posher' areas are full of people/pensioners who can't afford to maintain their now very expensive houses (and who prevent any more ever being built). It's basically Hull/Southend with a defence sector and a bit of money dribbling in from the Home Counties, but everyone here thinks it's amazing for some reason.

Southend is a bit like that, although for the most part people hate it and White Flight seems to be increasing as London Councils continue to kick the homeless / people with housing needs as far down the nearest trainline as possible.

What you're describing is pretty much what Southend used to be though and I loved the place as a kid (again 'for some reason')

You'd be right. I've pretty much only been to Dover for the ferry (which is a dump), Southampton for Peppa Pig World (seems alright) and Lyme Regis on a school trip 25 years ago.

Litter everywhere is the signal of the broken consumerist society. Companies sell things, people consume things, consumers drop the litter because they have no stake in the place, and no one wants to pay for it to be picked up afterwards.

Public litter bins per square mile is probably as good a measure of how nice an area is as anything else.

The Brighton bin issue I referred to was more corporate/household bins erupting into every street, which apparently get emptied when they're 'full' rather than on a fixed schedule. Bins in the street are very rarely overflowing anywhere except the most popular areas of places.

Once, some hipster friends of a friend asked me after lunch if I wanted to join them on a picking litter across town expedition. I politely declined.

There’s some sad cunt where I live who goes out everyday litterpicking and posting what he finds on Facebook. Literally everyday. I went through a spell of replying to his posts with ‘report this on the council app and they’ll send someone out to clear it’ but he went from ‘I shouldn’t have to’ to just ignoring me. Definitely takes pleasure in rifling through other peoples rubbish and/or hanging around kids playgrounds “litter picking,” the dirty nonce.
