MUBI has been fucking up with showing subtitles on Chromecast for the last week and they haven't fixed it yet, the useless cunts. Took me 20 minutes to find something half-decent on Prime and Netflix so I think I'm close to the dregs but Blue Ruin on the latter was very decent.

I watched Chef last night and quite liked it. Gets a little saccharine at the end but it didn't ruin it and y'know, if now's not the time for that then there won't be one.

Finished the handmaiden and it’s a relatively decent story/plot with a whole lot of sexual shit thrown in for added nothing. Great if you want to see some Asian tits. But it’s actually a decent enough story without the exposure.

    Weird in all honesty.

Trying to get through the IMDB 250 is the most autistic and wrong-headed way to approach cinema, and I say that with sympathy cus I was doing the same thing for a bit until I realised I was wasting my time watching shit films for no fucking reason.

I'm gonna keep an eye on it, and take sadistic pleasure whenever some 4 hour turkish shit creeps into the 250 @Foe.

There was a shift about 3 or 4 years ago where suddenly Bollywood and Turkish films just sort of appeared.

I just want to smash these ones out in the next month or so. I want to take a screenshot of a date and be like “it’s done”. As it changes I’ll be a bit more picky of what I actually watch.

The only two I’m dreading are andrei rublev and gangs of wasseypur out of my 15. Even high and low might be good.

It’s not a great list though. It’s obviously made up of lots of different opinions into a mis mash. You could probably clump then into clusters of “if you liked shutter island, you’d probably like these...” and you’d end up watching the invisible guest and be like - shit. That was good.

I know 8 times out of 10 I will dislike a Japanese or Indian film before I watch it. Once you’ve got a flavour for the genre they’re too similar.

Ran, yojimbo, throne of blood for example. I may as well have watched a 30 second YouTube clip of a Samurai riding towards a castle for a fight and I’d have not missed much.

spiderman into the spiderverse was an interesting spin on an already told story.

Not bad but superhero films really aren’t my favourite.

Starting drishyam on Netflix now which has promise.

And fuck you to igor for tempting fate. A new number 250 and it’s a Turkish film. All 190 minutes of. For. Fuck. Sake.

drishyam was good. To be honest a lot of these Indian films weren’t that bad. They’re just far too long.

I did that and no idea how it's my fault. I haven't done any of the things that would lead to it.

Still, just checked and back in now.

Light night I watched Toy Story 4, which I had assumed was a pointless "better churn out another sequel", and maybe that was the motivation but the story made sense. I dunno if I'd have it up there with 3 but I will say that those puppets are nightmare fuel. Also didn't really think the villain had earned a face turn but whatever.

I then watched the Khal Aquaman remake of Conan the Barbarian which was so boring I had to just go check what the ending was while typing this because it had immediately escaped my mind. I knew it hadn't reviewed especially well but I think it would at least have some fun action scenes in it but nope.

I was going to watch those Toy Story’s after I seen them on Disney+ but 4 full length films is a bit of an undertaking for me. I still haven’t got my head around finishing the last few episodes of that Sunderland thing.

Portrait of a lady on fire I would never have chosen to watch normally. However, despite the general plot being blindly obvious throughout its quite an interesting film to watch develop.

    8 to go.

6 if I discount the two shiters sneaking in the bottom.

Joker was absolutely great. Definitely prefer heath but Joaquin did a decent job. He clearly relishes these roles as he’s gone through some shit himself with river.

    This leaves me with:
Parasite - having to wait for release
Avengers end game - Disney plus
1917 - having to wait for release
High and low - ordered the dvd, awaiting delivery. Suspect I’ve already seen.
Gangs of wasseypur - sounds shit, is incredibly long and near impossible to find. Going to end up spunking Ł40 on this unless someone can help me source it otherwise.

And then there’s 2 at the +- at the bottom of the list
White night - some 3 hour Turkish thing
Japanese anime film about a deaf girl

Hoping to knock them out over the next few weeks and leave myself with 1917 to finish it off nicely.

Jumanji 2 was massively by the numbers, feel like they skipped over the issues they set up in the first film so the audience werent bothered by the dynamics as much this time. It was alright but don't remember being on my phone as much during the first one.

Spider-man Far From Home was excellent however, solid sequel and excited to see what happens next on the back of it. Really benefited from speeding through/ignoring some overdone story elements I think.

Avengers end game was average. Some funny bits but so bloody long.

Started watching winter sleep and quite enjoying it. About an hour in. So still another two to go.

Did end up spunking Ł35 on wasseypur and it’s en route now also.

I watched Extraction last night as it was trending but I just don't get what's supposed to be good about it. It was mostly just shooting, blood and unrealistically fighting off about 50 Bangladeshi's. The ending wasn't too bad but would have been much better if

Toy Story 4 is by far the weakest of the bunch.

Winter Sleep was about as good as a 3 hour long Turkish film with shit loads of philosophical dialogue could be.

Still at 4 to go as another shitty Bollywood film has sneaked in at #250.

Going to try and bash through gangs of wasseypur over the weekend then it’s a waiting game for 1917 and parasite to be released.

I was flicking through Sky last night and saw Film4 showing something called "Chaos", so I had a look at their synopsis.

Violent action thriller: Jason Statham is the cop who's seen it all, Ryan Phillippe is the rookie and they must deal with hostage taker and hat-wearer Wesley Snipes.
Sounds like a pretty deep character Snipes is portraying if that's his second most prominent trait.
