Aren't those reasonably new Civic Type R things meant to be fair banzai? The ones with all the weird looking wings and shit.

The Type R is good, but ugly af.

Modern 'hot hatches' are too expensive anyways. And heavy.

They are a bit too boy racer, looks-wise.

The newer Civics will be way over £15k. Unless you're going back to the old late 00's model, which is absolutely always my recommendation for a runner because it'll never let you down.

For your budget, you can't go wrong with a GTI. Not sure that the price bump to the R is worth it.

One thing I would recommend is that if you go for a Golf R or similar, don't buy private (especially if it seems a "good" price). Chances are it was bought as a status symbol by someone who actually knows little about cars and cares about them even less, so it has been absolutely battered and will almost certainly be a lemon.

Saw one of those Yaris GR things recently. Looked mad. Think it must have had some sort of body kit on it as it looked to have more wings/diffusers than the standard version.

Also saw an absolute beaut of a 205 gti which you don't see all that much anymore.

Surprised Pepe isn't recommending an "Abarth".

A friend of mine recently got his hands on a good condition Panda 100hp. I always regretted not buying one off ebay years ago [ended up buying a shittier Granny Panda off a more reputable source]. It has one of the most lol turning circles I've ever seen on a car.

    Oh my, the 205 GTI.

RL is not worthy of an Abarth.

How much can you get an Evo VI for these days? That was the macdaddy, but you're looking at another 'old' car. If they still make them then surely they're going to be madly out of budget given the 6 was 30k when it was new.

Had a reminder about the Ecosport car tax being due which means we can finally get rid of it. The car is actually okay but the boot is non-existent and every time I see it I wish we’d have just got a Kuga.

Just spent half an hour scrolling Autotrader and sent a shortlist to my wife:

These all have under 20,000 miles, are no older than 2019, all have rear cameras (not just sensors) and can be delivered to our house. Sorted from cheapest to dearest. I filtered as £2000 deposit over 4 years doing 10k miles a year and they were all under £300 a month, which doesn’t even factor in exchanging/selling our existing car so should be even less.

    MG ZS, 2021, 7145 miles, £17798: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-det...02205316331895

    Jeep Compass, 2020, 16101 miles, £19699: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-det...02206016397259

    Nissan Qashqai, 2021, 14563 miles, £19950: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-det...02207258121655

    Volkswagen Tiguan, 2019, 19600 miles, £20,349: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-det...02208028400485

    Peugeot 3008, 2021, 8857 miles, £21885: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-det...02206136734568

    Skoda Karoq, 2020, 7923 miles, £22559: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-det...02207187892266

My top 3 picks would be
    1 Skoda
    2 Jeep
    3 Peugeot
But really would be happy with any of these.

That red Jeep is so so mega.

My wife is test driving a Karoq today. If all goes well I’ll be buying one of the following two cars, but not sure which to get:

    https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-det...02207187892266
    Pros:
    less miles
    slightly newer
    slightly cheaper

    https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-det...02208018353773
    Pros:
    Bigger screen
    Bigger wheels
    It’s not white

8k Vs 22k miles is the main thing.

22k miles in over two years is fuck all, don't let that influence you one bit. Just go for the one that feels best when testing, which I imagine will be the 22k one.

Having attempted to drive a DS7 about 3,000km around Spain last year, I finally appreciated the problems faced by the captain of the Titanic. Yes there's a 1,000ft iceberg in front of you, but for the manoeuvrability at your disposal, you're better off just sending out a team with pickaxes and trying to mine it for the daiquiris in the first class lounge.

    Some of them.

The most popular ones like the Qashqai are basically a pumped up hatchback and their footprint is actually no larger. Nissan pulled off a bit of genius with the first Qashqai, convincing everyone to pay for a "SUV" that has no more leg room or boot space than some hatchbacks. Then everyone else jumped on board and that's why you see things like the Qashqai, Evoque and Kuga everywhere these days because clever marketing conned people into overpaying for what is still essentially a hatchback.

Car parks. But yeah, they're also terrible for being more likely to kill cyclists or pedestrians. And they're fucking terrible for emissions. Aren't SUVs worldwide emissions equivalent to that of a fairly large country?

I've had a Kia Sportage only done 18k miles in it from brand new over the last 3 years and probably spent more on petrol than I bought the bloody thing for.

24 mpg driving around town and I'm lucky if it hits 34 on the Motorway at a steady 60mph.

So yeah I'll agree they(SUV) are basically planet killers..

Trying to talk the wife into getting a "smaller" car but she's obsessed with looking down on other cars...

Going fully electric is out the question as I'll spend more time towing her home after she's forgot to charge it again.

    So looking at

Vauxhall Mokka (9 month waiting list)
    Skoda Kamiq
The MG SUV has caught her eye but I'm sure that's just cheap Chinese crap now in it?

I have had a 1.7 diesel Hyundai Tuscon and 1.7 diesel Vauxhall Mokka and both were cracking on fuel, fill up once a month whilst daily driving jobs. Not the car type it's the engines.
