The current labour lot will do fuck all if they manage to get into power anyway (which it doesn't even look like they will) and any meagre scraps they do throw people will soon be undone again by the tories the next time they get in when people become disillusioned with how shit labour are.

The thing most leftists can't reconcile with, when trying to purge each other, is that in large parts of the country there just isn't any support for left-wing politics. In other parts there is, but as the world becomes more fractured and balkanised, the gap is probably growing if anything.

That's why the Labour right exists, in an attempt to bridge that gap.

I don't fully disagree, but I'd argue the 2017 election showed there are plenty of people with an appetite for proper left wing politics. Or at the very least, it showed that the lack thereof is massively overstated. I reckon a proper social democrat somewhere to the left of Keir and to the right of Corbyn could definitely be electable if they managed their campaign properly and somehow mitigated the right wing press accusing them of being antisemitic filth who defecate on our glorious nation and its flag.

Again, a big part of the problem Labour have is that a lot of its most ardent modern-day supporters genuinely do defecate on our glorious nation and its flag (let's leave anti-semitism to one side for a second), particularly the FBPE wing which has developed since 2016. That's a big hurdle to get over when trying to attract broad support. Keir knows it too hence his hilariously clumsy union jacks everywhere, which in turn alienates the left.

I don't really know the answer, and it's a pity because we could do with a Labour government at some point even if I wouldn't vote for it myself.

I would love to watch Keir 'Sir Keir Starmer' Starmer and his sensible manifesto face get flattened under a two month campaign of 'Would you end the Rwanda scheme?' and 'WHAT IS A WOMAN?!' Obviously that requires Rwanda to be working, which might be beyond the government.

Speaking of anti-semitism, look at how that's blowing up in their faces.

The labour right are thick as shit and offer nothing to people. They just think it's their right to run the party (and to go to comfy non-exec director jobs afterwards) and actively sabotaged anyone else having a go. Fuck them, I wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire.

I imagine it was just "whatever fucks over Corbyn".

Then there were his pledges to the membership when he was running for leader which have all been ditched now.

Is anti-Semitism really the 'oldest form of racism', and, even if it is, why is that a relevant thing to mention?

The electorate in this country are nowhere near reasonable enough to tolerate a true left wing government.

They just cherry pick the cool stuff like the NHS instead then wonder why it’s gone tits up when the otherwise-ultra-capitalist system leaves it bankrupt.

What does a 'true left wing government' look like in the same fictional universe where we currently have an 'ultra-capitalist system'?

In this instance, fuck public safety.

The walrus, nicknamed Freya, rose to fame after clambering on to boats to sunbathe - sometimes sinking them.
Seriously, if people want to take selfies with a wild animal, and that wild animal happens to drag them to their deaths, so be it.

    +1 for the Walrus.

By that Norwegian logic every animal one would see on safari needs to be culled.

I haven't fact checked this, but from my Lib Dem Councillor friends Facebook:

EU average gas price cap is 37 pounds per megawatt hour

UK price cap is 263 pounds per megawatt hour.

On this basis, would we have all been better off staying in or coming out?

    Genuine question.
If that's genuine it could be the riot spark we have been praying for.

I'm not sure the EU have anything to do with it. I remember Spain and Portugal setting their own independent (and very reasonable) price caps a while ago.

    Yeah, it's a complete non-sequitur.

Average summer temperatures are higher, average winter temperatures are lower, average incomes are lower, on that basis were we better staying in or leaving?

Not that the UK energy market isn't a complete rort.

Lots of noise this morning (ie. Government floating shit in the press again) about the energy cap being frozen at current levels and companies being subsidised the difference.

Perhaps it's my straight white male privelige speaking, but short of actively inciting the crowd to be violent towards people present of my demographic, I can't imagine anything a comedian could say that would make me feel "unsafe".

In general it feels like a word that's lost all meaning.

There are women in the world that find the mere presence of a man "threatening". The problem is we bow to it, where we wouldn't if it was absolutely any other demographic.

I have a tenant on my patch that has had to be assigned to a female colleague because she was raped and now refuses to speak to men because she finds us scary now. Which I sort of get, fair enough, but it's definitely a form of discrimination and I want my victim club membership, t-shirt and car sticker immediately.

That’s not as bad as I thought (even though it’s still horrendous of course). I thought it might get close to 20% by April.
