There's definitely a 'came through at United, set for life' mentality in football. James Chester is one of the worst footballers I've seen and he's been a mainstay in semi-decent teams since he left United over 10 years ago, and even has loads of international caps.

By the last 2 years, it's literally just his 16 game spell at West Ham where he was good and scored 9 in 16. The season before he scored 2.
I think basing your overall assessment of a player's level on half a season of good performances is unwise.
