He has indeed had one season as a Benfica starter, which was his only taste of proper European football as a starter before he moved to us. He's still finding his feet, but has all of the right tools to be a very good player.
He's averaging over 1.0 xG + xA per 90 this season which is elite territory. Best in the top 5 leagues in Europe this season, in fact, though he has less minutes and more sub appearances than the rest of the top 10.
You only need to actually watch him playing to know that it's just a bit of a mental thing and he's just that last step away from a shit load of goals. Or yeah, opta instead.

Finishing ability is way overblown most of the time. The absolute best (Messi) beat xG by about 15%, nearly everyone else is about 0-10% either way across their career with the occasional outlier spell.
