I do use one in public transport (it's obligatory here) and when I go to the store but that's about it. There's A LOT of people wearing masks while out running and biking and it really makes me wonder whether that's more dangerous than actually contracting covid in those settings.

They are not mandatory in stores, but stores do have the right to not let you in if you're not wearing one. Generally I'd say a big fraction of the people are wearing them.

The surgical ones are 60 cents a piece in the big stores and there's seemingly plenty of supply. The metro also supplies you with one if you have a weekly/monthly metro card.

I was walking along a footpath earlier. Wasn't that narrow, 2m very feasible. A woman was walking towards me and as she was approaching she turned sideways (facing out) and crab walked it past me. I can't stop thinking about it.

I was out walking the other day and those narrow river paths completely ruin you when a lass with a pram is coming the other way. You're surrounded by railings too because they can't trust pissed students not to walk into the river.

I wear a mask but only when I’m taking public transport. It’s dumb, inconsistent and probably pointless but it makes me feel better.

Every shop here has 'no mask, no service' so you have to wear one to buy anything. Also wear them in our building so it makes other people feel better. But in the park and generally outdoors I don't bother but do have one with me at all times in case I want to pop in anywhere.

There are so many self righteous dickheads here though that think people fucking cycling without masks are killing everybody. Idiots.

If you think it's necessary to wear a mask now, then we should probably all wear masks all the time. Stops germs spreading, right?

Or you could just get on with life.

    That’s a very odd statement.

Yeah, to be fair when I said mandatory, I meant in shops and on public transport and the like. I don't think people should have to wear them outside.

Isn't the problem with the cover story that if you're so unwell that you can't look after your kids how do you drive from London to Durham?

That science guy got binned for going off and drilling his bit on the side, so I don't see why knobhead Cummings shouldn't either. This is exactly the sort of shit that makes the general public ignore the messaging (even more).

It seems that you are allowed to do what he did, which is presumably why people are making it about the distance involved rather than the actual purpose, and why the usual spastics see an absence of reporting agendas as proof of one when certain journalists do it.

Me and the mrs had to look after the kids when we had the flu over new year. It was awful, but we struggled through. There's no chance in a million years I'd have been able to drive anywhere the state I was in. He's full of shit. And risking killing off his presumably elderly parents as well. Lol.

It’s a load of shite. Johnson literally says in his conference kids shouldn’t be left with their grandparents. Cummings probably wrote it for him too.

The story is he believed he'd be likely to catch it due to his wife so it was a precautionary measure to not end up like the hero you undoubtedly were with the flu.

Even if that's not the case, it still falls apart as being 'essential travel'. If you can drive, you can look after your kids. Chuck a bowl of Frosties at them and put the tv on. Or atleast have your parents collect them, rather than the other way around.

Precautionary how? The kids are at risk too. Extending that risk to your parents is not helpful. Him not even being sick at the time makes it worse. Where's the guidance saying that parents are to relocate their kids to their grandparents house if one of them gets symptoms?

Listen, I've seen what you fucking twats get like with overprotectiveness over your spawn, I can see the logic if the wife is down and you think you're likely to be next given you've been shoving your god knows what in her filthy bits every night. If the gradparents aren't in a position to make the journey, this seems like a choice born out of that most fabled of things, common sense. Look at the fucking state of twitter rn, I coukd be lolling at some good content and instead I'm being battered with these cunts having their periods.

The kids weren't at any sort of personal risk, statistically speaking (listening to that radio 4 stats programme the 'risk' to anyone under 15 is insanely low to the point of basically being non-existent - 1 in 3 million or something), but the wider points about them being a (potential) risk to their grandparents seems strong (1% of the over 90s have died of covid, not 1% of those who have had it, 1% all in!) and fuck knows where driving the length of the country fits in with essential travel. It's probably 'within the rules' (as he's not a total idiot) but all that shows is that the rules (which he probably had a hand in) were a bit shit.

His wife was sick and out of the house travelling 200 miles. There's no way that's within the rules. 7 day isolation for her, 14 days for the rest of them.

Aye, but there will be some sort of wriggle-room exception.

I bet he burned a whole bunch of tests making sure the kids didn't have it, that'd probably be as much of a scandal.

They'll manufacture the wriggle room into one of the vagueries, that's for sure. The irritating part isn't even the rule breaking, it's the excuse making of the general public. I don't know how they've managed it, but this government has managed to build up an unfathomable level of unconditional support.

Lol, I didn't think the entire cabinet would actually come out wrongly defending him on twitter. Imagine having the country in your pocket to that extent. My hero.

He 100% shouldn't have done it and the reaction is delicious.

In fairness, going off the BBC article, which we all know to be an arm of the right-wing media propaganda machine, what he's supposed to have done doesn't seem that bad, and probably should/should've been allowed.

Certainly not visiting a second home level of daftness.

It doesn't really matter what he's meant to have done, if you're in that position in government you have to be squeaky clean. If anything he should have got the Durham people to drive down and pick the kids up.
