Hopefully this will work. An article from the Athletic on Sunderland's descent over the past few years. Nothing new from a fan's perspective really, however anyone who was interested in Sunderland till I die might find it interesting.

I don't think I realised just how crucial Laurent Blanc was for France. He made the next four years happen.

    Well.

    Romania have equalised.

GP W D L GF GA GD PTS
    France 3 2 1 0 3 1 2 7
    Bulgaria 3 1 1 1 2 2 0 4
    Spain 3 0 3 0 3 3 0 3
    Romania 3 0 1 2 1 3 -2 1

Half time and it remains as above. Spain need a goal.

Laurent has made it 2-0 so that's them done. All eyes on Spain now with 30 to go.

edit: Oof Bulgaria have pulled one back. 2-1.

Getting desperate now for Spain. Less than 20 minutes to go and they're still trailing. Starting to get fiesty in Bulgaria France with the Bulgarians flying in.

Spain have done it. Deep cross to the back stick, flicked back across and the late arriving Amor has bagged. All change.

GP W D L GF GA GD PTS
    France 3 2 1 0 4 2 2 7
    Spain 3 1 2 0 4 3 1 5
    Bulgaria 3 1 1 1 3 3 0 4
    Romania 3 0 0 3 1 4 -3 0

    Bulgaria have to score.

edit: Patrice Loco. 3-1. That's got to be it!

edit 2: and it's all over. Spain are through with the French.

Also, hard to look back and see how completely bobbins Spain's team was. Literally never heard of Manjarin

I don't have a clue why tf Bundesliga are idiotically sticking to the weekend schedule but if prem comes back, they better stick on one game a day during weekdays and 2/3 on weekends.

Serge Aurier under investigation from Spurs for potentially breaking ‘lockdown’ for a third time.

Not sure how much investigation is needed considering he posted a picture on his Instagram not giving an ounce of a fuck

Yeah, the guy is fun-loving and I really don't think he means bad in anything he does. He's seen vids of players saving others from swallowing their tongue and copied it. Similarly, I reckon he's seen vids of his buddies abroad getting trims and thought it's fine, completely oblivious to the UK lockdown rules. If Lethal Bizzle hadn't done that Corona remix on his snapchat I doubt Aurier would even know there is a virus going around, probably.

K, my appraisal may need revisiting. Homophobia can be explained away by his cultural roots but the assault less so.

Watching England - Holland here. Where are the likes of Overmars, Jonk, Cocu (maybe before his time?), Kluivert, etc?

Jordi Cruyff, Peter Hoekstra and Richard Witschge do not look great.

I was 4 when this tournament took place, just FYI, so I’ve never seen any of it really, other than the more memorable goals.

I know he's not always got a lot of support here but McManamanamanamanaman has done a fair bit of charging down balls in lots of space and then ending up farting about and zero coming of it. The midfield / wingbacks group have been a bit piss and wind in the replays I've seen so far.

Yes. They manage to get the goals despite the fact that from what I've seen Venables seems to encourage any old cunt to be further up the pitch than they are.

Shearer in the Scotland game being at the corner looking to pick out a cross for a rampaging Gareth Southgate was a particular highlight.

I wondered if the scoreline was going to be flattering given what I've seen and remember of the other games but we were pretty good.

Although the goal was from a pretty lax bit of defending and there was an earlier chance where Bergkamp had enough space to u-turn a tank in so we by no means looked unstoppable. And I bet the hype was insane right before we jammed our way past Spain.

I was 15 at the time, but I genuinely don't remember thinking we could win it, let alone thinking we would.

I think expectations were lower than what we've become accustomed to because (despite the semi-final in 1990) we were arse in Euro 92 and didn't qualify for 94. English club football had also been dogshit for ages by that point too and it was before the sickening bunting brought about by the golden generation.

It was a home tournament, expectations were through the roof.

And it wasn't, there was something very different about the feel of this than the shower of arrogant shit that followed in the 00's.

We went from a semi-final at home being a great achievement, to a quarter-final in a world cup in another continent being a massive underachievement. In just 6 years.
