It'll be full of smug parents homeschooling the kids whilst simultaneously moaning about how they have no time to do anything.

Van Tam has spoken, I see. The massive wet blanket that he is.

Shitting the bed over positive tests for less than 0.005% of the population.

I honestly cannot fathom how these people can't just accept that we're going to have to keep locking down and opening up again locally for a bit before this thing bores off instead of banging on about how no-one takes it seriously.

If we got invaded, you'd have three groups: the intelligentsia doing the I-for-one-welcome-our-new-foreign-overlords; the Tommy Robinson lot doing an inverse Four Lions and blowing up Hammersmith Bridge; and the rest, who would don it.

I.e. the people with something to lose, as always. I bet it filters by class too.

I don't think it's as simple as class or having something to lose. I've heard of plenty of middle class people who don't give a rat's.

EDIT: They're also less likely to be in a risk category too.

It's all just a facade to impress upon the public to ensure they continue to "hands, face, space" when they go out, as my friend Mr Handcock says.

The entitlement coming out of Melbourne this week on social media (lol I know) is truly pathetic. They should just open it all up down there just to wipe out all the boomers and yuppy anti vax types.

Doesnt help that scumo and the federal Libs are firing shots in all directions while shouldering zero responsibility.

It is either who cares only people with pre existing conditions die or Dan Andrew's is at fault for every non covid related death.

That narrative's a bit rubbish and unhelpful though, isn't it? The only thing that covid is actually any good at wiping out is economies.

The difficulty is that the 'better' one's initial actions [and/or good fortune] were in containing this thing, the harder it is to return to some sort of [required] normality. We picked up our first inbound case yesterday, all fine, isolated etc, and thankfully no one has shat the bed yet, but it feels like the island bubble/prison is further away from dissipating as a result [and as a result of the upward trend in cases all around us].

I'm sure Offy made the point far earlier in the affair that a drive towards eradication was perhaps a bit short-sighted, even if it sounds good at the time.

What's Sweden up to these days?

The south is supposed to be opening "wet pubs" again in the 21st. There'll be pressure on Stormont to do the same up here.

Just as universities are all going back. What could go wrong?

Problem with NI is that pretty much all the students go home every weekend so they'll take it all round the country with them.

I don't know about the south but I imagine it's quite similar.

No, pubs that sell food are open. But you can only sit inside if you're eating. If the pub has a beer garden/outside space you can sit outside just for a drink.

No, Based on what Giggles has been saying, they opened pub-restaurants a while back, they just kept the pubs that only sell drink closed.

I stand corrected. Bloody odd in my mind that they'd do that though.

It's a pub, not a Petri dish with pure COVID-19 in it.

Yeah, it's a weird distinction and I don't see how you're any safer just because you're eating.

I suppose maybe they figure if people are only in for food, they'll stay at their tables and not go mix with other people.

Anyway no bar no pub for me, but we really should let the rest of the world know that 9 quid of food makes you immune.

Wet pubs is a term the media came up with to make them sound seedier and the government adopted it.

We've been the same as NI up to now but without the outside but. You have to have food regardless.

A few tried open with local chippers on the menu or frozen pizzas and were shut down when the cops got new powers. The only power the cops had up to that was saying they'd object at annual licence renewal.

Gatherings of more than 6 people banned from Monday across England.

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-54081131

I'm guessing that won't apply to Premier League football...

So it'a basically banning house parties, larger family gatherings, and large groups of kids roaming around? Good luck with that.

The exemptions make that so worthless that it can only be a very, very roundabout way of banning ethnics from getting together in groups of forty like they do once the sun comes out.

The pureblood Anglo-Saxon logic that the government uses does annoy me. Sacrifice everything to protect economic transactions. If you care about the virus you should bosh it all. If you don't, let people live.

*cue 6 days of mass gatherings*

I think I read it used to be 30 from 2 households or 6 from multiple. Presumably the former has been taken away?

Imagine how silly the cunts who followed any of this charade from day 1 feel now they can see it for what it is.

What a joke of an announcement. Make it look like they ate making sweeping changes to protect us all when in reality the changes effect a tiny percentage of the country.
